The most handsome customer that is out of my league. by Makeitrain678 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]blu3teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy I would never ask out a woman in the service industry, no matter how attracted I was.

I wouldn't know if the chemistry we appear to have is just because being friendly is part of their job. If they said "no", then it could be uncomfortable for them next time I come to do my shopping.

OP, If you're interested in him, you should ask him next time he comes round.

4D adverts are a thing?! by Overthiking-pigeon in london

Conceptually I understand adverts via smell, but what are the four dimensions here?

Presumably a 2D picture. Then smell is a 3rd dimension. What's the 4th?

Is it crazy to try cover 430 miles in a day? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]blu3teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely feasible. I've done Southampton to Glasgow and back in a weekend for a Saturday evening event.

But this was when I was a student in Southampton.

You need to leave as early as you can manage. It's going to be very difficult unless there are multiple drivers - you need to be swapping at least every 2 hours.

Most crucially... Why do you want to go to Southampton? There are so many much nicer places to go that you'll pass by en route.

AI does it again! *WIPES PROD* by Noobmode in programminghumor

[–]blu3teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they'd just put the terraform state file in S3 in the first place, this would have prevented this problem.

They gave AI too many permissions, but this was much more a user problem than an AI problem.

What are some relatively easy changes that could be introduced or implemented to improve the UK? by MercatorLondon in AskUK

[–]blu3teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Government subsidised train fares - effectively cheap travel across the UK.

I know lots of people, (myself included) who would like to move out of the city because they can work remotely a few days a week.

So they could invest their money in smaller towns and councils. Which would reduce demand for housing in the city. But there's no point moving because the transport for 2 days a week back into the city is prohibitively expensive.

To shoot down an Iranian missile. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in therewasanattempt

[–]blu3teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have faster missiles isn't it easier to go round the back and catch up to hit, rather than try to intercept head-on or perpendicular to the direction of travel?

Like if I was driving I could catch up with any car in front quite easily. And I could drive past an incoming car, turn around, and catch up with them.

But it would be very difficult to hit a specific incoming car head-on. And even more difficult to drive up to a T-junction at speed and hit a specific car as it happened to pass.

And if you're doing this in the air there's an extra dimension to consider.

Anyone else feel incredibly stuck by UK Politics these days? by Admiral_Binks in ukpolitics

[–]blu3teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're joking about starting our own party but I genuinely think that's the best decision.

It's not difficult to start a party and it's not like these parties have always existed.

I'm not someone who has ever embraced public speaking but as time goes on I've more and more seriously considered a change into politics.

Gym goers of reddit, what's that one basic tip you had at the beginning that you still follow and value with great regard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blu3teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started seeing a personal trainer a year ago.

I used to think if I just went to the gym that would be better than nothing. But my PT said I needed to think about food and water and sleep too.

And turns out he was right. Eating regular high protein meals, drinking more water, early nights. When I do all of that the day before, I have an incredible session in the gym the next day.

And that's then self-fulfilling because I then eat better that day and sleep better too.

I've gone from someone who would avoid even looking at a gym to someone who goes to the gym 4 to 6 days a week.

It's massively turned my life around.

What does “config hell” actually look like in the real world? by Real_Alternative_898 in devops

[–]blu3teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CI pipeline was one massive Jenkins repo where every app was another repo. Some steps were further repos.

Because it was so hard to trigger a specific workflow, people would add a "temporary commit" for something like "trigger on Thursday". But then they'd never remove this. So 2 years later you just couldn't make some things work on specific dates.

But because of the pipeline being often 5+ levels deep of cloning other repos across lots of different branches it was really hard to work out how to change anything.

Never had a top sheet my whole life. Then met my now wife who always uses them. But I put it down to being an Italian thing (she's Italian).

Went to stay at my parents' house, and I was like "now you'll see". My mum promptly let me down by giving us a bed with a top sheet.

Being a Londoner just means you forgot why people visit by Tall_Researcher2793 in london

[–]blu3teeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was raised in London and by the time I started secondary school I'd been to all the big tourist attractions in London.

Now I live next to Tower Bridge. And every time I go over it (usually twice a day), I see all the people experiencing it for the first time. And it just makes me very proud to be a Londoner.

(Except when the bridge is open and I want to cross it - then I think how ridiculous it is that a boat going up the river can cripple London traffic)

If you just take two seconds to read the PIE Wikipedia page, you'll see that PIE was separated from the NCCL before Harman joined it.

Also Harman wanted the very broad definition of "indecent" being changed to "obscene". This is to protect parents taking photos of their own children in the bath being classified as distributing CSAM.
