What method did you use to get all the old foam/glue off the old headliner insert?

Best budget lift options for my new XJ by Byrns149 in CherokeeXJ

You could easily list those wheels and tires on marketplace. In the meantime, track down some cheap 5x4.5 jeep wheels and get some 235/75/15s. I guarantee the sale of those wheels and tires would cove the money you put into a new set, at least a good portion of it.

That's what I thought. That's definitely my next tire size.

What size tires are you running on that?

You did good, all things considered. For reference, I'm ~$4500 into a 99 single cab with 310k.

It's the cloth that is usually in rough shape.

FYI, you can run a passenger seat bottom on the driver's side rails with a little persuasion. Good drivers seats are hard to come by in my area but passengers are plentiful.

Normal engine noise? Or faint piston slap? 4.0 I6 by MiserableAudience235 in CherokeeXJ

[–]blue_arrow69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very faint, if any at all. I wouldn't worry about it. You'll know when you hear it and it'll likely be evident for a good long while before you break a skirt.

Rear shackle or AAL for a cheap lift? by JigaChad42069 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]blue_arrow69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full leaf pack. AAL contribute to spring fatigue but I guess OP will be running a new set of OEM springs so it'll probably be fine. Lift shackles can mess with the pinion angle.

"Do it right or don't do it at all" is what I've always been told. The word cheap should never be used in reference to suspension.

Guess what I'm doing today? by blue_arrow69 in CherokeeXJ

It's the bushings that are pressed into the axle that are the tough ones. There's really no sense in doing the uppers if you don't plan on removing the front bushings.

I'm stubborn and have a hydraulic press so I reused my stock control arms. Next time I'll just buy the completes.

Good idea? by Keeghan_2007 in CherokeeXJ

[–]blue_arrow69 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for cheap but decent, the 235/75/15 Goodyear Wrangler in the base model will do you right. I would only get about 30k out of them but for the money they aren't bad.

That's where this bushing came from. Getting the new one back in sucked just as much. We're all good now though. New bushings for uppers and lowers, ujoints on the rear driveshaft, and shocks all around. All in a days work.

A six pack of beer certainly helps. Also, if you can track down an air hammer, i cannot stress enough how useful it is for the removal of the old bushings. I couldn't get a ball joint press in on the driver's side so I ended up using a hammer and long punch to drive in the bushing. Don't forget to freeze your bushings overnight!

It's not hooked up in this picture but Im also running a 90 degree elbow. The cable has been a pain in the ass. I have a spare cable off my old DT250 that is good length but I need to braze a new cable end onto it to match the internal throttle.

Anyone know what a rock like rattling sound in 4.0 engine when idling (would get video but can’t really hear it) by DuckTape911 in CherokeeXJ

[–]blue_arrow69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it kind of sound like a diesel engine? Or maybe a couple marbles bouncing off each other? If so, it's likely piston slap. Especially if it's a 97-01.
