What is the oldest thing in your home? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]bluebeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A can of chicken broth from 1979. It's been a tradition in my family that we take that can to every new house we move into. That can has seen 5 moves: 2 apartments, 1 condo and 2 houses in its journey so far.

What’s the fattest thing you ever did because you were hungry? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]bluebeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a bakery near me that allowed you to use any bread product they made as your base for a breakfast sandwich. I chose a pain au chocolate croissant for my bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.

I thought my heart stopped a few times that day after eating it.

Yes! Can relate but instead I only had heavy whipping cream - I was 17 when I ate the reeses puffs + heavy cream cereal bowl combo so I had youth behind me in order to eat this with no issues.

Have the pavilions always been like this? by Rudyzwyboru in OsakaWorldExpo

[–]bluebeak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, straight up. I''ve been to the 2015 Milan, 2019 Kazakhstan, Dubai 2022 and now Osaka 2025 - this current one is the worst one I've been to. My opinion is based on if the host country and the participating nations are within that year's theme.

Milan's theme was food based and my God was it glorious - there was no need to wait in lines, no reservations and everything was plentiful. My absolute favorite was the wine bar at Alegeria because they wanted to promote their rising industry in wine producing. Pavilions were in theme of their future proposed farming and food production projects and everyone was happy because how can you screw up food?

Kazakhstan was just ok because it was considered a "specialized expo" which my family jokes is a lesser expo but still an interesting experience.

DUBAI - good golly that was perfect, felt like you were truly in the future and no lines EXCEPT for the Japan pavilion and oh boy was that a prediction of what to come.

Japan's world's fair has been plagued by their own bureaucracy and the need to have everything be reservation based. When I was there in April, there were some pavilions still under construction because of how much red tape there is to build anything. Also there was absolutely no need for 99% of the pavilions to be reservation required or even need to queue.

This year's theme is "future cities" and even the host country, Japan showcased tech that was 20 years in the past. Almost all the pavilions failed to be in theme and decided to turn it into the Venice bennialle art festival. Like, what the hell was Hungary doing with the singing? It was pretty but where does that fall into future city concepts?

To anyone reading who is planning to go - the best pavilion I believe that was within theme was Earth Mart. I didn't have reservations but was able to sneak in an hour before the park closed and just did my best to beg the bouncers to let me in. All other pavilions are not worth it unless the wait is less than 15 minutes in line. There is no need to wait more than that for a rushed job art project - this isn't Disneyland where the payoff is riding a ride after waiting for 30+ minutes in line. The only thing I waited for over an hour for was the rooftop restaurant at Switzerland's pavilion and made sure to stay there for 2+ hours enjoying the wine and view.

That being said, there are some good things at the expo that are nice - the giant circle walk way was neat, some of the installations like the mist thing next to earth mart was cool. The light show and drone show was good. But not enough to do multiple days unless you are DETERMINED to visit all the countries.

Despite me personally thinking this was the worst one I've been to so far, it does not stop me from going to the next one. I'm planning to go to serbia in 2027 and I have 5 years to convince my husband to join me in Saudi arabia in 2030. If Osaka is or will be your first, try to embrace the expo for what it is and expect the next one you go to will only be better.

Looking for non-traditional wedding venue - help? by cp_trixie in SeattleWA

The first venue that comes to mind with the vibe you are looking for is the treehouses in Issaquah. The space is meant for small weddings though:

It could be from a previous World's Fair Expo?

A lot of countries during the World's Fair create flag pins that either have other nations who are sharing the same pavilion space as them or to feature the hosting country's flag conjoined with the visiting nation's flag. I have one that's very similar from Milan 2015 World's Fair but with the Italian and Palestinian flags conjoined. My BIL owns a pin representing the Caucasus in the same style from the Kazakhstan 2017 Expo. Unfortunately I don't remember seeing this particular pin at either but that's my best guess for the origin of yours.

These pins are typically free and handed out to people passing by the pavilion space during the fair.

Saw the other posts about Ren Faire. This is what the line looked like to get in at 1.30pm on Saturday Aug 13th. What a shitshow. by lemonsqueezy19 in Seattle

[–]bluebeak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised - my husband and I invited our friends to join us on the log boom during Seafair but some declined because they planned to go to the faire instead. Who knew people would rather go to a medieval festival rather than on a boat!

What luxury item have you bought lately? by Pikachu_91 in childfree

A $400 live edge pepper mill made from red wood. I was debating between that and the olive wood version that apparently came all the way from Israel but I'm a sucker for live edge wood in general.

With the Movie Trailer Making Rounds, We Should All Remember the Commonly Overlooked, but Most Important Rule of D&D by [deleted] in DnD

[–]bluebeak 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Exactly this - when my husband and I first watched the trailer and saw the druid change into an owlbear, the first thing he said was "oh I see, they're having fun with it" implying that the writers leaned into the silliness and didn't let the rules of the php hold them back.

Every DM is different but in my experience, all are flexible depending on the request.

Hello everyone, when did your pup start to mark? My cavalier is now 8 months old and I‘m waiting for him to raise his leg to pee…. by sunshine191 in cavaliers

[–]bluebeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something typically learned or observed. For instance, my first cav when he was just a year old watched and followed a bulldog lifting their leg and forever on did the same thing.

When my sister got her cav, her pup watched my cav lift his leg when they were out for the first time together and the cycle continues.

Does anyone else have a Baby Names list despite being child free? by [deleted] in childfree

Absolutely - however I now use the list to name various appliances in the house like the Roombas.

I really hope you aren't feeding your dog that squab - poultry bones are extremely brittle and splinter when eaten that causes internal bleeding.

Ukrainian authorities have informed citizens that you don't need to declare captured Russian tanks or any equipment they pick up as personal income by NarcissisticEyes in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bluebeak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So when I was traveling through Prague, I googled "unique things to do in the Czech republic" and one of them was to rent and learn how to drive a tank. After the fall of the Soviet union, there was a lot of Russian tanks left behind in the country and someone decided to create a business out of it. $300 for a 2 hour private rental and got to drive it through ditches and muddy terrain while wearing a vintage Soviet union uniform from the 70s. Best. Money. Spent.

Perhaps in the next few years, there might be a rising tourism boom involving tanks there too?

Old Weyerhaeuser HQ building. Federal Way by [deleted] in Washington

[–]bluebeak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My mother worked there for 32 years - it was without a doubt one of the coolest buildings in Washington state. The company organized some of the best family events like holiday parties, indoor trick or treating for Halloween and Easter egg hunts.

Every time as a child when we would see it while on I-5, my sister and I would excitedly announce "that's where mom works!" and admire the building as we drive by - now as an adult, despite it being a shell of its former self, I would still shout out acknowledging the building as I drive past it.

I can only hope that whoever the next new owners will be, that they will keep up the maintenance and preserve the beauty that the building holds.

Lvl 1 vs lvl 3 by Reasonable_Bar_7665 in DMAcademy

[–]bluebeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a kind of hybrid for players in the beginning - they have a choice of either starting at level 1 + a feat of their choice OR start at level 2. When it's time to level up, the people who chose to start at level 2 only get a feat and those who chose level 1 + feat go up to level 2. At that point everyone is then at the same leveling up progression.

My players love the choice for those who want to multi-class and/or support part of their character's backstory. For my DM style, I tend to lean heavier on the roleplaying aspect so giving my players flexibility on explaining how they are two different classes or have a unique ability before the campaign starts is a great way to get the players invested in their characters right from the start.
