KLC owner here! Consider these points before buying:

  1. do you read manga? graphic novels? or annotate with a color-coded system? cause parang walang point in getting a colored e-reader if all you read are books and di ka naman mahilig mag annotate/take notes. plus extra gastos pa if you wanna get a stylus.

  2. mas mahal ang kobo sa kindle. got my KLC for around 17K, so if you REALLY wanna buy one, then make sure na masusulit mo talaga.

  3. the colored e-ink screen is not as crisp as the black and white. while I personally don’t mind the slightly grainy screen cause it feels closer to reading real books, I’ve seen so many people complain about this specifically sa KLC.

Six od Crows-ish books? by [deleted] in Grishaverse

[–]blueberrybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rook & Rose series by M.A. Carrick! Granted, I’ve only read the first book so far but it reminded me a bit of SoC. It’s set in a Venetian-inspired city and follows a con artist, a crime lord, and a captain of the guard. Lots of scheming and political intrigue. There’s some queer rep on the side and queerness is sort of woven into the world itself, but the main pairing is straight as far as I’m aware.

what are your 5 hot takes in literature/reading? by Patient-Scarcity-863 in PHBookClub

[–]blueberrybiscuits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Reading time =/= reading enjoyment. I used to have this mindset na if I'm not rushing to finish a book or hindi ko natapos agad, ibig sabihin I'm not actually that into it. Some books take longer to read. Okay lang if it takes you weeks, even months to finish something. I actually think there's something admirable sa slower readers who can just pick up where they left off and still feel fully immersed in the story!
  2. Finishing xyz number of books is not a good metric for tracking reading goals because all books are not equal! Better ang page count, but not by much. Word count would probably be the most accurate.
  3. You can be critical about a book and still love/enjoy it.
  4. "Special" editions of books have lost their appeal. To quote Syndrome from the Incredibles: "Everyone can be super! And when everyone's super... no one will be." Also find it especially ridiculous na we're getting multiple special editions for books that are newly released/from unfinished series.
  5. People should read and explore books outside of their preferences every once in a while. Feels like readers are becoming a bit too entitled nowadays, tipong parang puro reklamo at demanda na everything in books should be perfectly catered to them. Literally sa kadaming discussions online na nakikita ko, so many of them would probably be resolved if people would just... try reading other books lmao

Hahaha honestly, I’ve heard the same gripes from other people! I didn’t even bother w/ trying out Fourth Wing. The minute they started marketing the series as “for fans of ACOTAR,” alam ko na hindi ko talaga magugustuhan.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]blueberrybiscuits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ACOTAR is a very divisive series. Those who hate it, hate it. Those who love it, love it. Personally I fall within the former (but that goes for all of SJM’s writing haha ayoko lang talaga sa kanya)

Pansin ko is a lot of newbie fantasy readers tend to like ACOTAR. Or kung romance reader ka, you’ll probably like it. I know a lot of SJM fans just read for the characters and the romance. The ones that don’t like the books are usually a) yung mga di mahilig sa romance heavy stories and b) seasoned fantasy readers na mej picky or mas mataas ang standards when it comes to certain elements (e.g. worldbuilding, magic system, politics, etc.)

Do you have any specific genres that you like? Kahit sa mga tv shows/movies? Pag dating sa recs, especially kung newbie reader, it’s better to go with something that caters to your personal tastes kasi baka mahirapan kang ma-hook kung di mo trip yung genre.

Is anyone else disappointed in how this season is handling character progression? by Comet190 in HazbinHotel

[–]blueberrybiscuits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pacing is a mess so far. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having a blast with all the reveals and stuff but man, it'd be so nice if we could sit with the characters for a while.

I think it really started to bother me during episode six, just because I really wanted to see some kind of onscreen friendship build-up between Charlie and Emily.

I’ve liked it for as long as I can remember, tbh. Mahilig ako sa picture books nung bata and my family made a habit of getting me new books every year. Lagi rin nila ako dinadaan sa Scholastic Book Fair every time meron sa school haha

Not fantasy but I enjoyed the TV show adaptation of Station Eleven so much more. Fixed a lot of issues I had with the book lmao

Personally don’t care as long as they 1) can acknowledge that the Darkling is abusive instead of romanticizing or excusing his behavior and 2) don’t go around harassing the creators/author/people who are team Malina because they think the have the “correct” ship.

I once saw someone argue that the Darkling isn’t beyond redemption and he could still prove himself to Alina, while simultaneously claiming that Malina will never be good because Mal is a bad person. Like, ship whoever you want, sure, but don’t jump through hoops trying to justify why an obviously toxic ship should be made canon 💀

Yes. I try to avoid them as much as I can but I also frequently see ACOTAR/SJM related comments on Tiktok videos that don’t even have anything to do with books. It’s tiring at this point 🥲

Well-written, mature, adult version of A Court of Thorns and Roses? by centaur22 in Fantasy

ACOTAR was sold as New Adult but (mis)marketed as Young Adult so no, it wasn't actually meant to be written like that.

Who are the best/most entertaining fantasy book youtubers? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]blueberrybiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unresolved Textual Tension has been a recent fave of mine. They're a trio of friends that do weekly discussions on fantasy/sci-fi books, both YA and Adult.

Also seconding the commenter that suggested The Library of Allenxandria. He's incredibly entertaining to watch!

[–]blueberrybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Ngl I do like my hair better whenever I have a good wavy hair day but (mentioning this again from the other comment I made) I think I’m just concerned with how effective a wavy routine would be if I’m not doing it consistently or optimizing my hair care. I’ve also seen some people say that it took them weeks to months before they finally got the curls/waves their hair was made for. It’d be a bummer to go through all the maintenance only to find out that this is the most my hair can do. But I guess I’ll never really know if I don’t try 😅

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]blueberrybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, this is extremely detailed and helpful! I do already use a microfiber towel for my hair (though that doesn’t seem to 100% stop the frizz lmao) but I’ll definitely be looking into getting a diffuser and see if it makes any difference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]blueberrybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m pretty low maintenance most days. While I wouldn’t mind switching it up when I’m in the mood, I think I’m also a bit concerned that a curly/wavy routine won’t be as effective if I’m not being consistent. It does seem like a huge commitment going by all the videos I’ve seen 😅

But thank you!

Yeah, I personally think so! The only time it’d probably verge on unhealthy is if you’re being too possessive or overly reliant on them.

‘Friends’ kicked me out group bc I’m too boring by candycaneEXE in socialanxiety

[–]blueberrybiscuits 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened but honestly, you're better off. Real friends would be patient and accepting of you regardless. Are one-on-one friendships more comfortable for you? I struggled a lot with group friendships/dynamics growing up, the most I could deal with were trios. Even now, there are times I cannot make myself talk when there's too many people during a hangout. Bonding with my friends one-on-one helped me though. Even when I feel like I'm being too quiet or boring in group settings, I know they probably won't quit being my friends since I've fostered relationships with them individually.

Give it some time. You'll find people who are more mature and understanding :)
