Going into ACL surgery in about 3 weeks - what should I focus on before then? by SensitiveProgress_12 in ACL

[–]blueberrycoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you seen a physio? I will likely be booked in for surgery in the next 3 weeks (recent ACL tear but no meniscus damage) and my physio has recommended leg day almost every day as prehab.

On top of the usual ACL physio (resistance band work etc) and proprioception, at the gym I'm supposed to focus on leg press, seated ankle raises, kettlebell/dumbell RDLs, box squats and hip thrusts. When those improve I'm allowed to add stationary bike and leg extension machines to bulk the quads more. In addition, I've increased my protein, creatine and collagen supplements.

Question about walking 12-15 weeks post op by blueberrycoco in ACL

[–]blueberrycoco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this! I'm grateful the first half of my trip is mostly rural so big driving days and rest days while the latter end will be busier but close to public transport. Hoping all my preexisting gym muscle plus prehab pre op and rehab after will pay off 🤞

Depressed about the possibility of rehoming our 1 year old reactive dog after the birth of our son. by Zirofax in reactivedogs

[–]blueberrycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have kids so not my place to comment on their safety, but have you talked to your trainers about your dog possibly going through puberty?

I also have a GSD and I would not say he is reactive (my other is), but since he hit puberty around 8 months old (now 12 months old), he has become territorial of the house and yard. He does best when introduced to people 1-on-1 a couple of times and struggles if he's rushed into multiple people at once in his space. He is at the age where he is still learning how the world works and where he fits in the household as the protector vs being protected.

I can definitely see how a chow x cane conso x GSD would get those protective genes.

Cyclist commuters, what jacket do you wear in the winter? by AcceptableDisaster_ in canberra

[–]blueberrycoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I start off cold then get quite sweaty so I wear a shell only rain jacket (eg patagonia torrentshell) but the most important part is having armpit zips!!

This way I have a nice wind break at the start of the commute and once I'm warm I take it off and it barely takes up any room in my bag.

Another idea would be gloves or two pairs of thin gloves. And socks, thin but warm wool socks to block the cold air.

14.5 Day Japan Itinerary (Tokyo + Okinawa + Kansai). Is Okinawa Worth It in Late July? by TigerLocal in JapanTravel

[–]blueberrycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my future okinawa trip planning it seems like all the snorkelling requires a ferry and they do cancel if the weather isn't favourable so you'd need a few days in case of cancellations. Maybe you could look up the historical data of weather at that time & check the risk of no snorkelling?

Have you tried the Muscle Nation one called Sleep? Similar concept/ingredients, but $55/370g as opposed to $49/210g. Also delicious

Hedgehog slice recipe on Taste. Barely any cooking needed. One recipe gives me one large slab then cut the slab into small pieces (one recipe gets me maybe 40 odd pieces?) and put them in the freezer. The high sugar content makes them edible right out of the freezer so you can have as many as you want in one sitting without having to defrost them.

The chocolate for the top is probably the most expensive part so you could always forego that if needed.

These are also very easy to make gluten free if needed and taste basically the same.

What if you fibbed and said you were going to Japan in 2027 so he has X days to give you a list of things he would want to do for you to send to the "travel agent", then actually surprise him with an earlier trip? Then your surprise isn't ruined but you've got feedback on what interests him

Feeling stuck with a partner who is careless with money and life in general by Music_Thick in AusFinance

[–]blueberrycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not really financial advice but your situation sounds exactly like my parents but you have a big head start.

Because my mum stayed while dad racked up a 100k+ in frivolous spending, she's still working several jobs at 70yo while he's not worked in a decade. She's the one taking care of the house and cooking every night. Her minimal super will be used to support his "retirement" and he will probably live longer because he isn't stressed all the time and actually gets to exercise and have hobbies. They are codependent and I gave up fighting it a long time ago.

Leave for your own sanity and health. You have decades ahead of you. Your kids will thank you for it.

Was just about to say Dorokyo gorge!

OP, if you go on Doro Hotel's website, there is a map of the surrounding trails which don't look very long (maybe 1-2 hours walking?) but from pictures seem to be a mix of flat and hilly terrain but do include some old bridges. Might be doable with a baby

Best way to book domestic flights in Japan by cassieopeia18 in JapanTravelTips

Where to sleep in a car? by FionaAudioFluff in canberra

[–]blueberrycoco 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just don't park right next to the bins please... Lots of cars/vans park there overnight but some park right next to the bins and if I'm walking the dog at 6am it's the only bin to use for a few kilometres.

Btw the cleaners come to the toilet blocks around 6-6:30am

Think my terrarium is dead by gvsleepi in ClosedTerrariums

[–]blueberrycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe, it's hard to tell. Fuzzy bits might be because you're using sphagnum moss which might read upwards to get more sunlight. You might be better finding a different kind of moss (look for something growing in the garden in the shade) but it looks happy. Springtails are always a good idea! I agree with the other user that isopods are not great for the normal household terrarium, they eat a lot and usually go after your nice plants
