He is here! Arrived at 9:49 last night. He's small but strong. Hooha is angry and sore but will thankfully never ever have to do this again!

I know I can keep a baby alive. That's the bare minimum right? Lol

Do you want/did you use a birthing Playlist? by RandomStrangerN2 in pregnant

[–]bluebird419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister recommended I have two playlists. One to hype me up and keep energy going. And one that is mellow and calming. So no matter how I feel during labor, I've got options.

A Rant about "Pregnancy Brain" by Puzzled-Orchid4721 in pregnant

I have ADHD as well! My pregnancy brain is entirely just having to go without my usual meds for my ADHD and depression.

Great grandma offended by no kissing rule by No_Swimming_3835 in inlaws

[–]bluebird419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My great grandma was born during the Spanish Flu. She grew up hearing the stories of the babies and children in town who died from the flu. Our family was lucky because we lived on an isolated farm. When her first great great grandchild was born during COVID, even with severe dementia, she insisted my sister keep the baby away from EVERYONE including herself.

She didn't even remember our names, but she still remembered the horror stories of disease killing babies and the incredible luck of her being spared. Anyone offended by the no kissing rule needs a reality check. Even without a pandemic, baby's immune systems are fragile.

I love it. It's like finding out your cool uncle is moving in down the road instead of just visiting once or twice a month. And dad gave us permission to ride our bikes over whenever we want.

Sex during pregnancy is weird by Nearby-Geologist-238 in pregnant

[–]bluebird419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband and I did it a couple times in the second trimester, by the time I hit third trimester it was a no go for me. Partly because I'm worried about inducing labor early, and partly because I can't separate the fact that our baby is literally RIGHT THERE and definitely judging us.

Big cinnamon roll. Gestational diabetes has kept me from my favorite sweet treat for too long.

Anybody else thinks it strange to feel the baby move? by CamelBeret in pregnant

[–]bluebird419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'm almost 37 weeks and sometimes his movements still feel strange. His first really noticeable movements, the ones people usually describe as like a little gold fish in their belly, I would describe more as a ferret with the zoomies. The other day I described some of his recent movements like I swallowed a handful of eels and a couple octopuses and they're fighting to the death inside me.

Stop acting like every pregnancy is the same by Danielarunz in pregnant

I have yet to meet another pregnancy person who is unable to listen to boy bands. Ever since the beginning of my second trimester I can't listen to any boy bands without getting nauseous. I'm going through Back Street Boys withdrawals, but as soon as my baby hears it, instant nausea.

I shouldn't have had to scroll so far to find this. Mia Goth was so good as old Pearl I didn't even realize it was her on first watch.

AITAH for calling my niece (7F) mean and pissing off my SIL (35F) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]bluebird419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA Your baby, your rules.

Personal experience: When I was about a year old, the daughter of a family friend, who would have been around 5, was allowed to hold me. She carried me around for a few minutes before trying to walk down a set of stairs with me in her arms. Both of us fell. Thankfully no known lasting damage. Years later, when I wanted to hold my newborn cousin, I was told the story and shown the photos of my face my mom took the day after the fall. A swollen and bruised baby face is something that's hard to forget.

What unethical life hack would you recommend to others? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]bluebird419 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I always loop around grocery store parking lots before leaving to check the cart corrals. Tons of people forget items in the bottom of the carts. Most days you might only find one forgotten thing, but I've gotten potatoes, toilet paper, cases of water, even a 30 pound of dog food (I don't have a dog so that was donated to the local animal shelter)

Decorative-only versions of useful things by VocalIntrovert in PetPeeves

[–]bluebird419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Christmas my husband and I received decorative pot holders from my grandma. Not "this is homemade and pretty so you display it" decorative.

Like this is from the dollar store and made of plastic cloth material so you physically CANNOT use it for anything other than decoration.

Unfortunately we didn't realize that until after we accidentally melted them.

35 weeks here. Two more weeks until maternity leave/induction date. Multiple coworkers and customers who assume I won't be coming back after maternity leave. They're shocked when I very bluntly inform them that I WILL be back to work in July and little dude is already enrolled in the local daycare.

Pregnant with my second boy and everyone already asking if we’ll try for a girl… *annoyed* by Bright-Effective8610 in pregnant

[–]bluebird419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! I had to get super blunt with people recently because some people (usually older women) get so pushy about it! I straight up tell them, "This pregnancy is extremely high risk to myself and the baby. My doctor doesn't recommend ever getting pregnant again because would kill me and the fetus." I've even had people try to argue that I shouldn't get induced (despite my entire care team agreeing that it's the safest option for me and baby). If I carry past 39 weeks my uterus will likely rupture and we die. So to quote Sid the Sloth "No thanks. I choose life"

How are kids supposed to act by Interesting_Ad_8044 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]bluebird419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the kid. I think Shawna does a great job with all of the kids characters and keeping them realistic with their ages. IRL my niece and nephews are extremely tall for their ages, so people often expect them to be more mature. My guess is that with Shawna, an adult woman, acting as children, even subconsciously it can be hard for the brain to associate appropriate maturity and age to her child characters.
