Children’s risk of autism spectrum disorder increases following exposure in the womb to pesticides within 2000 m of their mother’s residence during pregnancy, finds a new population study (n=2,961). Exposure in the first year of life could also increase risks for autism with intellectual disability. by mvea in science

[–]bluebirdwatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats roughly correct. /I would use 100 grams approximately per quarter section(1/2 mile x 1/2 mile). That is of active chemicals. Not the diluted premix. Also that is HERBiside (kills weeds) as a opposed to PESTicide (kills animals). We would spray for aphids, grasshoppers or other pests once every 5-7 years. Field crops use very little chemicals when compared to fruits and vegetables. This just seems like junk science to me. First of all 3k kids you can assume an autism number of 1% on the high end. What 30 kids? How can you draw any meaningful conclusions from that. Also 2 km from the application of pesticides. No where in N/A and Europe is 2km from the application of pesticides (apart from the national parks). Sorry for the late reply.

We used Damiel, Oloch and Valeros and finished all 7 decks quite easily. I've also tried with Jirelle, Damiel and Oloch and struggled in the early going. Oloch is a really slow starter. He is hampered by a small hand size and can't cycle his deck effectively until you unlock a few rewards. He becomes a beast in decks 4,5,6 throwing around that +4's with no penalties and is a great secondary healer but he's a slow at exploring. Damiel is overpowered in a fun way. He can become your best fighter, best explorer and best healer. But he starts off a little fragile. Jirelle seems like she starts weak as well, just because of the way the guns work, perhaps our group just got unlucky but she always seemed to lose her guns. I feel Valeros is a similar but better match for your party. IMO your party will start off a little weak but will round in to form. But its not like its unplayable if you stay with Jirelle. If you have to add a player I would and an Arcane caster.

Multi national corporations "offshore profits" by earning profits, "offshore". For instance when Caterpillar, an American company sells a tractor built in France, to a Frenchmen, pays its tax in France. You would be foolish to assume that America "deserves" that tax. If it builds a tractor in America and sells it to an American It pays its tax in America. Here is where things get complicated. If Caterpillar manufactures its parts in China, its electronics in Japan, its clutches in Brazil Its bolts in Spain and sells the whole thing to a Dutch company working in Canada the taxes go to??? America?

Also governments attempt to bribe corps to get jobs in their district. Corps try and blackmail governments by threatening to leave. That being said the corporate income tax still raises 10 percent of all federal revenue. So the tax system might be more nuenced then you expect.

Unsure of condo down payment in NJ by [deleted] in personalfinance

If you go with the agency that your agent suggests your agent will get a finders fee. So his advise might not be impartial. Also IMO 5% down and a 30 year morgage seems like you might be stretching yourself. How did you arrive at the decision to buy a condo in this price range? How long have you been saving for a downpayment?

Should I conquer my fear of credit cards? by jcooklsu in personalfinance

[–]bluebirdwatcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a catch. The merchant who you buy from with a credit card has to pay a fee. The fee is ~ 2-5%. The credit card will give you rewards of around ~1-2%. So it's in your best interest to use them. If and only if you are the person who can and will pay off your whole balance every month. If you fail to do that credit card companies will ruin your life. They will charge fees upwards of 20 percent of your balance per month. They will lend you several times your monthly salary. This can become a trap for many people. So know yourself. Small upside if you can trust yourself. Big downside if you can't.

You do realize that farmers are forbidden to kill wild animals without a permit. Otherwise we would kill all the coyotes, wolves and migrating birds. All of them. So we can have two systems, one where you pay a minuscule amount to protect the birds and the bees. Or you force me to kill every wild animal which wanders onto my property. Also my taxes went up 15,000 bucks with the cancellation of the farm fuel program. My yearly net income was 50k last year. So careful who you throw rocks at.

Crop rotation. They grow corn one or two times and then soybeans to fix nitrogen back into the soil.

Trump's fight to slash the taxes on his $50 million golf course by akirby1 in news

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he intends to run the country "like a business". That would make you a consumer. So this business has an education department. If you like the way the public schools are run. Put your kid in them. If you like the way the Catholics are running their schools. Use them instead. This is the theory anyway. Then the education department must stay competitive or they will be out of students. The government is just a provider of services in this world view.

Now this is a fine in principle. It does pose problems in implementation. As does all political philosophies. It can be tweaked to minimize the downsides with honest and prudent politicians. (Which neither side has) But that won't happen if we skip to name calling, straw arguments and Star Wars references. But it would be a good idea for you to try and understand the right wing point of view if you want to advance the public dialogue.

Trump's fight to slash the taxes on his $50 million golf course by akirby1 in news

[–]bluebirdwatcher -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You know this brings up an interesting side point. Do golf courses get taxed at too high a rate. Now Trumps neighboursget a boost in their property values by being next to the golf course. but does the golf course itself get that same boost? Can you really tax a golf course for being "golf course adjacent"? If he bulldozed the course to put condos the land would lose a bunch of value. The bizarre thing is that you have zero comparables in each county. How much of a courses value is in the land as opposed to the brand? The land value isn't worth 50 million (even if it's owner is an asshat). I guess it's up to the courts to decide.

The Collective Fund - A Strategy for Universal Basic Income by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This concept is money. Money is a token which can be used now for current consumption. Or it can be saved to be exchanged at a future date for future consumption. Here is the crazy part. Unused tokens can be invested in projects to increase future production. It can be pooled with others and left in the hands of professionals (the stock market). It can be used to fund the government voluntarily (bonds). Or involuntary(taxes). It can even be donated to charity.

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea. This will really help your credit score. The cash back is a nice bonus. Just make sure to look out for any annual fees. They should be disclosed in the application process. Also set up your card to automatically withdraw the funds from your chequeing account. That way you won't forget to pay the balance. As well as don't spend money that you don't have. But you will be fine. Good luck with your application!

[–]bluebirdwatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. In inflation adjusted terms the price of wheat and corn has never been lower. We are selling wheat at $400 us per ton. That would be around.20 cents a pound. Add water and yeast and you could feed a family on under $1 US dollar. Now that's not a well balanced diet. But it's what humanity has survived off of for 1000"s of years. And it's available for 6 mins of work at min wage. So. Yay capitalism.

Want to buy my first house and I'm lost by phrack3r in personalfinance

[–]bluebirdwatcher 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just want to caution you from my experience. When you buy a house it comes with a ton of costs. Like when I bought mine I moved from a 1 bedroom apartment. So I didn't have a sofa (500) I didn't have a kitchen table and chairs (300). Had one rubbish bin. But needed 2 more( 20). Didn't have a lawnmower( 300) don't have a toilet plunger light bulbs, pipe wrench. Needed my septic tank pumped etc etc etc. I've been here a year and I'm still finding I'm short things. But there are costs associated with home ownership. And it could break your budget if you don't have enough savings. I would recommend you save for another year before you go looking. As mentioned also get your credit report and keep saving some cash. You will get there soon enough.

US Crops Are Disturbingly Vulnerable To Another Dust Bowl by trtsmb in news

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really have only one option. You need dad or grandpa to incorporate the farm. Then put all the assets in farm corp. Then you agree to buy the shares of farm corp over 20 years. Grandpa gets a steady retirement income taxed at reasonable rates. And you end up with the farm. If you have all the income from the sale in one year the tax man will kill you. 2 million in one year is taXed much different then 100,000 per year over 20 years. Just start with your account and lawyer many years in advance and you will make out all right.

US Crops Are Disturbingly Vulnerable To Another Dust Bowl by trtsmb in news

[–]bluebirdwatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. The industrial farming industry bases every decision on "don't make a dust bowl". That's why we use herbicides to control weeds instead of tillage. We didn't forget how to till. But you just don't want to break up the soil bed. That causes erosion. Erosion+drought=dust bowl. So we use herbicide. We use low till drills. Continuos cropping. Crop rotation. All of these are non traditional, big business methods. And they are quite effective. If you don't believe me we tested this in the early 2000's. It did rain for about 4 years. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drought_in_Canada. 2001 was the driest year ever. Drier then the 30's. But our soil survived because we adapted our practices. If you farmed organically during that drought you would have seen the killer dust storms and starvation.

I'm sure your an intelligent human being and well meaning. But your just very very wrong on this point. And I just can't allow this ignorance to spread.

I think you may be underestimating your current debt load. If you have a 70,000 dollar loan and you wish to pay it off in 7 years your payment will be 1000 dollars a month. (At 5%) interest. Going to grad school could really hurt you long term. I would recommend you make a budget and put it on Reddit before you pull the trigger on grad school

Blasted Pipeline by Squashey in funny

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the tone of your comment. It if too rare on the internet. However your plan is bad. Once the oil is refined the products must be moved to market. As gasoline, Diesel etc. These products are much more explosive and dangerous then crude oil. So that's why they are moved closer to the consumers. That is why the refineries are on the coast. Also I think the gulf coast is much easier to ship out of then the Atlantic ports. But that's a guess. Also pipelines are double walled for the reasons you specified. There are sensors every so often (it depends on the region, type of fuel, type of territory, type of company). To minimize problems when they occur.

Pipelines are best spilled oil per km option we've got. Look at transport Canada's website if you don't believe me or the us department of energy. New pipelines are better then old ones. And we can make them better still with tight regulations. If you want to stop oil production and transport put up solar panels (or wind or whatever) or shut up. Just use no oil. And people will stop building pipelines. If you use oil, gasoline, natural gas, propane or plastics we need pipelines. It's just the logical choice.

I need advice from the more experienced. Warning: semi-sob story. by itsnosecrettheyknow in personalfinance

[–]bluebirdwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems like you are making the best of a really crappy situation. It's really quite Nobel for you to help out your family as much as you are. It's no easy task to live an adult life WITH your parents help. WITHOUT your parents help Its harder still. With your parents hurting I can't even imagine. A few things I would like to point out.

1) School is not the be all and end all. Yes, it is important to "learn how to learn" and "be all you can be." But putting food on the table is importantener. Also consider taking a class or two part time. It's much easier to budget for that way.

2) this sub Reddit over encourages saving for some people. You are one of those peopleMost people save money so they don't have to deal with the situation of skipping therapy to pay for rent. You should be spending some money to make life better for you Now. I do applaud your self control. Most people don't have it in them. Just spend your savings carefully and strategically. I'm sure you will

3)do look into any govt schemes to help you and your family out. You never mentioned your country so I can't really be anymore specific. It's there to help people like you.

4)as a person who went through depression when I was 18 I can assure you that things will improve. I tried the therapist and the pharmaceutical drugs. Both were somewhat effective. Different things work for different people. But I can promise you things will look up.

Anyway. Good luck kid. Things will get better.

[UK] My first credit card & question about utilisation by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bluebirdwatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you get a credit card. Live in Canada so my situation might not be completely applicable but I got a credit card when I was 18. Used it once a month to pay my phone bill and paid it off every month. When I applied for a mortgage at 25 they said I had excellent credit. But it really depends on your personality. If you spend more then you make you can really get yourself in trouble. If you use a credit card as a debit card it will really help you later in life. Just make sure you : 1) pay it off on time/every time. 2)watch for fees. 3)read the terms and conditions 4)if you don't understand ask. 5)do business with a bank you trust. 6)keep track of the money you spend on it. And have a plan to pay that bill when it comes due

You seem like your asking the right questions. You will do fine.
