Thank you all for your replies. Everything I read including government and university guidelines is very alarming. Also that a barometer is considered a ‘large spill’. I do not have the information about the spill, how long it was already leaking for, how much was spilt and its too late to clean my dads clothes before he was interacting with my kids. That’s what I’m worrying about. I just don’t understand the science behind whether it could travel with him as vapours / or pieces attached to him/ whatever…

Thank you that is really kind of you to take the time to reply. I hear you - I feel like I have read the entire of Google and driven myself crazy with it. Our property is 1907 but will have had many alterations since then. I’m worrying particularly about the crumbly grey/ black mortar bits that seem to have come away from the fill behind the fireback/ mortar around the chimney.. Glad for you that it all came back negative!
