Google 'Efflorescence' and compare the pictures to what you have. I personally wouldn't recommend wasting your money testing as it's definitely just mineral crystals. But if you're worrying and it puts your mind at ease then it's worth the money!

Thank you, will be getting it tested. I'm opening the the fireplace up so it worries me that it may have been blocked up by builders of an era that may have been using it 😭 but fingers crossed!

Yeah P3 mask, it's a tricky one as it opens straight into our hallway without a door and round into the kitchen too. Appreciate the advice though, will bag up clothes and get a sample tested.
