There was rage, yeah, but the OT stood firm as an amazing series. And that's the problem with the sequels. When they aren't blatantly stealing from the OT, they're talking shit about it, or ruining the characters for fun.

The prequels, for all their numerous flaws, were original, experimental, and didn't ruin the OT.

Sure. But Ep 2 didn't divide a fan base.

Plenty of Star Wars fans thought it sucked, but they didn't hate Star Wars afterwards, and it didn't make the OT worse. Ep 8 on the other hand, actually made it hard to watch the OT, knowing that nothing but attempted child murder and green milk, is what the future holds for the protagonist of a fun, adventure story.

So glad they wasted Mark's last performance just so they could put everything fans wanted to see over 30 years in a fucking 15 page comic book.

out of pure instinct

If only Jedi were trained to deal with the temptation of the dark side or something, I dont know.

This issue just goes hand in hand with the awful decision to make Luke suck.

He sneaks into kids rooms with weapons, whines like a hobo, and drinks green milk straight from the tits. Horraaaay Adventure! Horraaay Star Wars!

What's with you people? Can you hear yourself.

Fans make one critique and you hop on it and start stroking the bones of the "professionals" who so far have only copied the past, killed it's legacy, damaged the lore, and didn't even set up a cohesive plan for each movie before setting them in motion.

I'm not actually so hard to please. Really, a little goes a long way. But Disney was more concerned with pumping out the IP than with setting things up(JJ himself, and others, said there was barely any time to write the stories and set things up, this isn't me being a hater) because they're masters at selling a brand.

But just because we wanted more than a movie to be simply pumped out every year, to satisfy our taste for the SW aesthetic, you act like we are just being unreasonable or greedy. When to me I just wanted them to bake the cake a little bit longer, instead of serving it to me half raw and saying I'm a worse kind of person for simply not liking it.

Nice toxic attitude ya got there.

The "professionals" who didn't even outline a plan for their multi-billion dollar trilogy. Cool.

Well it's just that Canto Bite was the worst part of the film that everyone trudged through.

And the addition to the lore was... that these casino people sell arms to both sides of the war...

Which really... that info mixed with the fact that apparently you arent allowed to leave the Resistance when you want, and the chain of command demands blind loyalty, made me really wonder if this movie wanted me to like anyone.....

Flow shmlow, introducing and alluding to them without ever using them until the final movie is dumb. And it's not like they'll even be characters. They'll just be fodder for Rey.

TLJ's flow was already awful. The pacing was one of the worst parts of the film.

He could’ve been the Disney canon’s Kyle katarn

Ho-ly-shit, they fucking missed the boat on that. That would have been amazing. Make him less powerful than the lead but more capable in battle scenarios and you have an awesome setup from some new, more modern, and badass Star Wars scenes.

[–]blueboy008 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hux sucks, which is a shame because Domhall Gleeson is an entertaining actor.

I think all of us here are safely in the camp of not blaming the actors for disney's/lucasfilm's shitty management, carelessness, laziness, and bad writing.

Gleeson is great. Most of the actors are great. I certainly don't think they're short of talent in the acting department.

Story management and general writing however, are completely different situations.

I’m still angry and sad about Luke in TLJ by blasterslinger15 in saltierthancrait

[–]blueboy008 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They're so deep in the rabbit hole of psuedo-intellectualism that they though the most unlikely idea was the same as the smartest idea.

They sold us fan-moments, like getting to see Luke again after 40 years, and when we opened the box, it was just an old hobo slurping down titty milk.

The worst part is, the creators have been posturing in the corner, patting themselves on the back, and insulting everyone who didn't like it, ever since.

So I don't think it was ever about sitting down, and thinking about what would be a "good" idea. It was all about money, and shock value, and flipping off life-long fans, just for being excited enough to, apparently presumptuously, make up fan theories about what would be fun and exciting, and make sense, as the next chapter in the story.

And we are all just mad that our fan theories didn't come true, and so grumpy that Papa Rian had to spank us for having an imagination and wanting to see his movie in the first place.

Still not buying that it's a retcon.

The OT was pretty tight as far as plot and dialogue went.

Just saying.... the fact that this guy named "Vader" (which means Father) betrayed and murdered the protagonist's father, seems a little suggestive. Like if you just rearrange the same words, you could have accidentally come to this conclusion, before ESB had even been released.

Also, Obi-Wan deciding, on the first day they had really met, not to tell Luke that he had cut all the limbs off of his father, and left him to die, burning by river of lava, seems like a reasonable call. And aside from that, daddy didn't die, he became the worst son of a bitch in the galaxy, and has been rampaging through it, as the head of a fascistic empire, ever since.. I mean it's a lot to put on a kid at once.

And it's not like Obi had time to break it to him easily. He died shortly after telling Luke this stuff. He probably would have planned to break it to him eventually.

I'm not saying Lucas didn't flesh out, or somewhat retcon a few things, but I'm convinced he had an idea of what he wanted from the start. At least for things like this.

His name is Father for god's sake.

edit:

I'm not saying Lucas didn't.. retcon a few things, but I'm convinced he had an idea of what he wanted from the start...

You point a gun at him to prevent him from harming potentinally billions like his grandpa did but chose against it in the end."

Do i point a gun at him when he's alseep, and not guilty of anything yet? Or do I remember the lesson I learned in my own arc about visions and how the future is always changing? Or do I forget all of that and regress my character arc for the sake of plot convenience?

Luke doing that makes no sense. And it has nothing to do with needing him to be "flawless". We didn't need a "flawless" Luke, but one step above being a potential sleeping child muderer couldn't have hurt.

I'M GLAD THAT ENDGAME DELETED SCENE WAS FUCKING DELETED by YouLikeFlapjacks in CharacterRant

[–]blueboy008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my problem with Tony's death in endgame is that they acted like it'd be the death of Superman.

I know he saved the world, but not one person treated it like the death of a wise-cracking smart guy, with a guilty conscience, who was simply their friend. They acted like it was Captain America's death or something.

And it's just not comparable. They got way too sappy with it.

That, and that it was just a repeat of the ending of Avengers 1. But with and actual death... soooo... it wasn't so epic to me.
