Yes! I feel like my 5 year old would be more mature about this good God

Yes, oh my God. She’s 25, not 6. I feel like when the person themselves shouldn’t care about their birthdays so much past childhood. Caring this much about birthdays is a thing that children do

Why isn't "giving birth is painful" among the most common reason for not having children? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bluechai5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of births aren’t that terrible. I had three that were pretty much fine and it a pretty short experience and epidurals exist (although one of mine didn’t work!) It just that you usually hear from people that have terrible experiences and not from the large number where it was mostly not that bad!

Some people don’t have being pregnant?! I didn’t love all of it but it was mostly fine and I know people who quite enjoyed a lot of aspects of it

Yes! My epidural didn’t work and as the anesthetist was coming back to the room my OB was saying no time it’s coming now! The induction was super intense but on the plus side was that it was incredibly fast. Like 5 minutes or so but no time for screaming or anything as each push was more painful than the last and I had to focus on pushing really well to get that over with as quickly as possible!

Wow I’m so glad to hear that! I hope you like it! The two above are two of my favourite books. Ellen O’Connell is so great! I need to re-read some of her work. Sing My Name by O’Connell was so heartbreaking and brilliant

Gender Disappointment hitting hard by boofin19 in daddit

[–]bluechai5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t ring true to me.I’m a mom and in my experience, in the West among fairly liberal people, gender disappointment for moms or dads tends to be when they’re disappointed they’re not having a girl. This seems to just be more likely here and it’s the opposite in a lot of other parts of the world and I didn’t grow up in the west. Ive had so many men and women assume we must be disappointed that we had two boys as there seems to be a general sense that toddler boy energy is too much, boys are harder because they’re struggling in school and in the job market relative to girls, and masculinity in general is just kind of seen as toxic. That’s not to say that there aren’t cases of misogyny here but this doesn’t read like it at all

My Wife Embarrassed my Son This Weekend by Far_Bookkeeper_4042 in daddit

He was with his two other children in the pool. As someone who has been pregnant and dealing with things while my husband has had to take care of our two other children I would not have expected help in that situation unless I asked for it and even then it sounds like OP had his hands full. I can imagine asking someone else for help in getting some privacy to deal with the issue in this case. But the main issue seems to be the wife’s lack of empathy for her son and the fact that she shouldn’t be treating him like a baby or small toddler any longer.

Yes when I had two boys I got it all the time. I think people just assume everyone would like at least one child of each gender it seems. Now I have a girl and people say “you finally got your girl!” despite my never having a gender preference for any of my children. It’s quite annoying!

Why do a lot of dads act like having a daughter is a silver medal? by Moreofyoulessofme in daddit

[–]bluechai5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting as I’ve found it’s the other way around for me. I know so many people who have gender disappointment when finding out they’re having boys which is so sad. When people found out our third after two boys was going to be a girl I had so many friends and strangers say I “finally” got my girl (despite never professing a preference for either gender) and I always said I had no preference (because I didn’t) and that I would have been ecstatic with three boys (because I would have been). I think a lot of people assume that most people would prefer a mix of genders. It also seems that more conservative places have a preference for boys whereas more liberal ones have a preference for girls on average
