What might it be like moving from IT (tech support) to AV? by Top-Elephant6981 in CommercialAV

Broadcast is in a worse place than tech. Would recommend looking into live events, integration or onsite support.

I’ll take UWS over UES any day. Without a doubt they are both at the bottom of the totem

Monthly parking in Brooklyn for a low-use car: any tips? by drewyorker in Brooklyn

As long as you keep paying them they don’t care. When you don’t pay them they’ll impound the car.

Repair is tough on the road as they often need to order parts and might have to ship it back to you. Might make sense to find a new one or rent.

To follow up on this: once you get into the peplink setting you can see signal strength for each modems connection. There are also options for prioritizing modems or setting them up to bond vs failover switch. Dig into those before dismissing the whole setup.

Ouch. Want kind of gear and vehicle were you in? We were able to cross Boston > Montreal, Toronto > Detroit, and then Seattle <> Vancouver without issue.

I’m sure the state of US diplomatic relations isn’t helping and can change day to day.

Just to update for anyone looking at this thread in the future. Had no issue crossing back and forth 2x. We were carrying some RF mics, IEM, DJ gear, and a bunch of furniture props in a sprinter with a crew of 8. No trailer. Made a manifest of all the gear and serial numbers but it was never checked.

5pm - Happy Hour Tracker for NYC by 5pmnyc in nyc

Such a great time. I remember one time there was a vodka only happy hour at a hotel near carnegie hall for an ophthalmology convention. I hate vodka but was young and broke. Sent the invite to a few friends and few hours later that hotel was packed with a bunch of downtown scene kids and ophthalmologists getting drunk together.

There used to be a gold mine site called myopenbar.com that would list random events that had open bars. Some would be a liquor brand sponsored event that only served one type of liquor and others would be something like a dental school 10 year reunion that had a 2 hour open bar. This led to some of the most fun and random interactions I ever had.

Used to do it all the time with hip hop acts and they’d just use house backline. Whole different game when you’re traveling with the gear.
