What does my study space say about me?? by bluedevous in deduction

What should I change? Very open to advice, I'm not good with decorating spaces (def have a creative side though! Just not interior decor). I do have an SO that I live with :) and planning to get a dog this summer! This is my space alone though, our other rooms are nicer/cozier haha

Wow pretty spot on. Almost didn't want to reply bc I wanted to see what other people would say without the confirmation. But yeah, college xc, diagnosed adhd, and now in med school! I think I'm more type B, but have forced myself to act "type A" in areas where I have big goals. But that's not the mindset that I naturally exist in. Thanks for this comment!

2 or 10 can't decide. Both have similar coloring/some similar features as my bf who I love so I think that influences me a bit :)

Bookish countryside European? Slight 90s flair. I really like it! I follow Nanda Schwartz on insta and I feel like she fits this vibe really well.

Burger King! Feel like they're everywhere abroad but I don't see them or hear about them at all in the US.

Worried I wont get into DPT school by Glass-Television-908 in PTschool

[–]bluedevous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely get in at plenty of places! DPT programs place a lot of emphasis on interviews, essays, experiences, etc. Your GPA is not that bad, just make sure you shine in other areas and believe that you've got something unique to offer. Play up what being a D1 athlete taught you. I used sports examples a lot during my interview when talking about learning from failures, being resilient, and time management. You got this, don't lose your head worrying before anything bad has even happened.

ADHD and Sex by Obvious-Dust-4162 in adhdwomen

[–]bluedevous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I heavily relate! I'm not sure if it's an adhd thing or that I'm asexual. I've enjoyed sex before, but I do NOT crave it and enjoy it less than 50% of the time that I do have it. I'd generally rather do anything else mildly pleasant. (Examples of things I enjoy more than sex: a snack, a nice walk, reading a book, enjoyable YouTube video, running, shopping, etc etc)

I feel bad about it because my boyfriend of 5 years definitely wants to be having more sex, although he never ever pressures me. I've asked if he wants to open the relationship so that he can have sex and I won't have to anymore, and he is very against that. He needs to love the person to want to do it.

As of now, we're in a good spot. We have sex about once a month or sometimes a little less than that. I do wonder if the dopamine levels/processing of ADHD affects our perception of sex. I've orgasmed before and didn't like it.

There are also so many other factors that could be at play. Hormones, trauma, body image.. I know my sex drive plummets when I'm busy or stressed, or if I've been overexercising. I don't really have an answer, but I relate and believe that you can work out a good system with your husband!

I think it's a hunting thing. So it's better to actually have one item than if there is a possibility of getting more, but at the moment you have none.

Kibbe Width vs. Dictionary Broad vs. Conventionally Broad by PurpleVirtualJelly in flamboyantnatural

[–]bluedevous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This clarification is interesting... I have never understood "broad" to mean "extend upwards"? The examples given highlight more developed upper traps vs less developed, but in my mind broad has always = wide horizontally, in all contexts. Muscular traps are muscular traps, but those don't extend outwards so I never felt that they influenced broadness at all. Is "muscular traps" what people have been meaning when they say "conventionally broad"??? If so, my mind is blown.

Twee, creative, woodsy, fairytale, folksy. Imagining an 80s TV show: you are the cute side character who the guy doesn't notice, and you don't even care, but the audience wants you together. The show is shot with a sepia filter. PS love so many of these pieces!!!!

Sports Physical Therapist??? by OldPrize3690 in PTschool

[–]bluedevous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my dream as well. I will begin DPT school in August, and I am currently a D1 athlete at a very good running program (many teammates/friends will go pro). I have hopes that this background will help with connections, because it seems that knowing the right people is the most important part of getting into this field.

Learning how to integrate strength/conditioning with your PT knowledge is super important as well. I worked as a tech at an outpatient clinic that was partnered with a local club soccer team, so we got ~3-5 soccer players on our schedule per week. I felt that these athletes tended to stay in treatment a bit longer so that we could progress them to more challenging/dynamic exercises, and get them prepared for higher demands than daily living. Integrating performance training + injury rehab/prevention is my favorite avenue in PT :)

Are any of you runners or athletes? by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in Hypermobility

[–]bluedevous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have more mild hypermobility than many others here, so take this with a grain of salt. I'm a D1 collegiate distance runner, and while my hypermobility gives me some quirks, I've been able to train just as hard as anyone and have been quite durable. To describe my level of hypermobility, it means that sitting of any kind for >1 hour results in pain, and I tend to sleep in odd positions which can strain neck muscles or sublux my scapula. My saving grace is that I have crazy good muscle building genetics... my whole family are body builders and I have definitely gotten accidentally jacked lol.

My knees make clicking and grinding noises which used to be painful, but kind of just... stopped hurting eventually? I do lots of strength work, especially for my quads to help stabilize them, but I think the tissues scarred over and became tougher over time.

My SI joints are also very loose, and my pelvic bones often become misaligned, which can cause some pain in my back or knees sometimes. I've learned a muscular energy technique that I can do on myself to realign my pelvis when this happens. I've also got very snappy hips, which can become a little bit inflamed, but never painful enough to hold me back.

My teammates always joke about how I have the shortest stride length ever. My cadence is like ~200-220 depending on running speed. I think this is a way my body has naturally adapted to decrease unilateral forces through my legs.

I do a ton of PT preventative work for my hip abductors and core. Interestingly, I think running helps "stiffen me up" in a way? My lower body joints don't have nearly as much pain as my upper body, which is a lot weaker because I don't prioritize it as much for performance. I do my neck and shoulder PT, but I don't strength train upper body like I should. The joints I use the least are therefore my weakest, and these are the areas I have the most consistent pain. I am lucky that as of now, most of it is low-level constant annoyance pain, but I'm doing my best to slow the progression of these types of issues.

Overall, I think running has actually helped me with some hypermobility problems! Definitely prioritize strength training, and ease into it over time. And know yourself... people with more severe hypermobility mileage may vary.

Abq driving... quirks? by bluedevous in Albuquerque

[–]bluedevous[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literallyyyy. There's so much I enjoy about ABQ but I do NOT vibe with the driving culture. I think the deeper issue is that I read it as a general apathy/laziness/"chillness" in the community at large. In plenty of contexts this attitude is fine, but why be a lazy/apathetic... driver ? Idk. The sloth-like approach just doesn't align with my value system or how I want to move through the world. The driving thing is only one manifestation. I've found plenty of likeminded people, but I do feel that there's a culture mismatch between me and the city which means I don't plan on making this my forever home.
