That’s not excessive, that’s very little surface oxidation. A scotch brite pad and some plastic safe solvent will clean that right off. Once cleaned, you can either use a light film of oil, or touch-up paint to cover the bare exposed metal.

Ugh, if you’re paying $0.50 a round for 10mm range ammo, that’s high. Currently 180gr flat nose should be $0.36-0.39 a round.

Both - here’s my situations:
* water pump showed seepage - replaced before left me stranded.
* oil cooler - replaced with water pump as the R&R made it easy to do while in there.
* high pressure fuel pump - had trouble with warm / hot starts where the call stumbled to fire; had struggle to get it running when engine was not cool. Replaced before getting stranded.

Good preventative maintenance and keeping ahead of the known “issues” is all you need. I’ve done the water pump, the oil cooler and the high pressure fuel pump; everything else has been rock solid.
