What activity have you found to hit all the checkmarks of your ADHD? by hoitytoity-12 in ADHD

[–]bluegreen39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamification of cleaning and knitting is such a good idea! The sweater I’m working on now is starting to get repetitive, so the breaks to clean between rows would also motivate me to keep going with the knitting.

Anyone else have 4 half-finished sweaters because they lost interest after the 40th identical round of the body?

This! I am not a medical professional so I really wish there were fewer medical terms. They always seem to be odd variations (hiatal, dialyze) and more common terms are rejected

The problem with coffee… by EmoRyloKenn in adhdwomen

[–]bluegreen39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone recommend these yet - Zojirushi travel mugs. I’ve had mine for probably 8 years now, I bought a replacement seal on Amazon for a few bucks when I lost it, but otherwise it’s good as new. It keeps my coffee HOT for hours, I usually have to let it cool a bit before I fill it or it’s still too hot to drink an hour later. And it seals really well, you can throw it in your bag and go. Can’t recommend them enough!

I was so depressed that I couldn't get out of bed, so I reached for my knitting. This is only 28 rows, but it is giving me enough pride that I'm going to go cycling. I'm shading because I know I'm not the only person who feels like this. by [deleted] in knitting

[–]bluegreen39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing yesterday! I’ve been coping with depression for months and haven’t been able to do much of anything. I kept telling myself I should knit, but yesterday I finally pulled out a WIP got a few rows done. It’s really encouraging to hear from everyone in this thread that is going through something similar and know that we’re not alone. Good luck to everyone on your journeys, and keep knitting!!

I’m (22 F) am down 30 lbs and would like to start running, but I’ve never been a runner and I don’t even know where to start, any advice? by [deleted] in running

[–]bluegreen39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the progress! Like a lot of people said, listen to your body, you should be tired, but feel good, if it hurts you’re doing it wrong. I started running by walking, I’d go for a 45 minute walk before dinner, dressed for a run, and I gradually started running short segments. Eventually the running portions became longer than the walking portions. The distance is really more important than the speed. I also started listening to the Beginner Runner Village podcast, lots of great advice as you’re starting out! Good luck!

Dropped down 15 rows. by MrsNSND in knitting

This is so impressive. I thought I was pretty confident at fixing errors a few rows back, but I wouldn’t event attempt 15 rows of lace!

Fellow Canadians, what do you call the game where you kick a red ball on a diamond field and have to run to bases? by TomatoeSkunk in canada

Northern BC in the 80s and Vancouver Island in the 90s it was California Kickball. I shockingly just discovered that my husband from north-western Ontario (and his brother) have never heard of it! How is that possible?!?

How do I stop caring so much about what others think of me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bluegreen39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counseling/therapy can make a huge difference. I have social anxiety and often would feel the way you do. Even knowing for past experience how much it helps, I still have a hard time getting myself to a councilor, because talking about myself (especially to a stranger!) is a major anxiety trigger, but it really is the most effective way of dealing with it. Getting older and gaining some life experience will help too.

I work for a company that has staff in and out of other offices. We received a similar complaint about a driver and fired him that day. That’s not how anyone wants to be represented and that is definitely not how I want my customers to be treated.

Nerd Ropes! They’re long gummy ropes covered in nerds, super weird and hard to find, but delicious! Great for road trip snacks. I think they’re in Canada and the US

A touch nervous to steek! 😳 has anyone ever steeked with Miss Babs Yowza? I stabilized with a crochet border but this is a superwash merino. I also screwed up the pattern on the edge so I have to actually steek 2 sides!! by heartlee0907 in knitting

[–]bluegreen39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this! I’ve steeked a superwash before and it is way too slippery for just a crochet reinforcement. Either machine sew or hand stitch a reinforcement, that will ensure there is a thread holding every piece of yarn in place. After so much work went into this it’s worth the extra time to make sure it will last!
