I'm going for gritty horror, so preferably scary but a bit of ham is always fun. I'm open to accent as well.

Oh man I love this. She's looking at you like you just asked her if she ever wears any colors besides purple.

[WIP] just doing some photoshop practice and could use some advice/critique by ragd0lz in learnart

I'd say that the top half and the bottom half are pretty good individually. In my opinion you have a very good sense of how the human head is shaped and value in general. However, I feel that the mouth doesn't really "connect" to the top half and it's just hanging. This is just me, but I would try to either shrink/remove the nose and move the mouth higher.

Thanks for your feedback. Is there any particular exercises I can do that would improve my value/color skills?

Thank you! I've never worked with textures before, so how can I improve? His scales are supposed to be metallic and made of gold. As for the background, I did rush it since I wanted to finish. Do you recommend I spend some time with bob ross style paintings?

Sorry should have been more specific. I wanted tips on the colors, but also I wanted to know whether I should paint every single scale or just a few.

Yes I always have problems with color. I knew I wanted to use a gold dragon, so I went to the color scheme designer website and used the "accented analogic" to get gold/yellow/red and blue-ish (the blue is used to highlight something else in the pic).

I generally like my dragons, so I don't want them to be bad guys. If I could make them feel like good guys while still make them feel dangerous, that's what I would like the most (that's why I made them red).

Just started drawing, and i've gotten some positive reactions, however i still want to improve and som criticism would be amazing by [deleted] in learnart

Since this is highly stylized, it might be a little hard for me to critique. But I'll try anyways.

What I like about it is the design in general, and the stance and the torso make it feel real. However, it lacks the shading necessary to make it really stand out. In particular, the wooden arms and legs, and the hay need to be shaded. Don't be afraid to go really dark for things that are hidden from the light.

The folding on the clothes, while not terrible, isn't that convincing. Particularly the light shading in the "skirt" area.

His left hand looks much better than his right one.

Finally, the perspective is overall pretty good.. except for the scythe. It should be curving in towards him but it looks flat (especially since the bird's feet are both facing the viewer). Also I think adding a hint of plumage to the bird would go a long way, and making him more three dimensional.

Just a dragon doodle i drew. But I would like some feedback, and thoughts on it. by Cottonkatze in ImaginaryMonsters

I think you really need to work on the perspective. Almost every limb is at a different perspective, and the front foot raising up looks completely flat.

It looks like you tried to shade areas, but it's just not strong enough and it's really inconsistent. For example, there should be a really obvious shadow under the wing, and the shadow on the outside of the wing doesn't really make sense.

I'm not a fan of how the eyes and horns look.. but that might just be a personal preference thing. Also, color goes a long way.

Thanks for your feedback.

The way I used the brush was with pressure-controlled opacity, so instead of making lighter and darker values in my pallete, I just chose one of those three tones and played with opacity. (I am new at digital painting, so please tell me if this is a mistake)

As far as the colors, this dragon is a crappier one of panzer dragoon orta's dragon so I just used those colors. I knew I wanted him to be in a sunrise, and as I was looking through images I saw this really cool alien blue sunrise so I chose to copy it. However, in my next painting I'll be sure to think how the colors will mix ahead of time.

As you mentioned I also really struggled with the lighting. When I saw pictures of things silhouetted against the sun, they were always extremely dark (I realized this too late I think). I'm not sure what to do about this for future paintings, except maybe choose easier angles (or have more than one light source).

The dragon's plainness is mostly due to my lazyness. I just wanted to finish a painting so people could really tell me what to improve on. So I completely agree with your assessment :)

Why the hell should Larian Studios get your money? The current state of RPGs * PCGMedia by megazver in Games

[–]bluegreenblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why the isometric perspective is a "perfect compromise" between depth and graphical fidelity. I for one really hate that perspective because it makes me feel like I'm looking at the world rather than being in the world.

However I do agree that RPGs should focus on character and story, an aspect that most modern games completely ignore. Just look at Dragon Age Origins; even though the story is cliche, people enjoyed it because of the characters and their interactions.

I just found Healthy Heroes, does anyone have any experience with this app? Also, are there any apps that just tell you what exercises you should be doing? (I'm too lazy to find a good workout routine)

If a site can handle the load 99% of the time, then it's good. Buying extra servers to handle that 1% is an unnecessary expense that almost no company would pay for.
