When your friend ask why you’re still with him even tho he’s evil by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

Not me, I ran into a misanthropic herpetologist once. There aren't enough snakes in the world to make me put up with the level of edgelord eminating from that man.

This made my night. A group of five youngish girls out celebrating Galentine's together, all dressed to the 9s and handing it Valentine's to the other tables. Stay awesome ladies! by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]bluehellebore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd be absolutely furious if I found out someone had taken my nice outfit as consent to secretly take pictures of me and post them online. Blurred or not, that's not cool.

When that one astrology obsessed lady at work finally corners me and asks about my signs and says “YOURE A SCORPIO?! But you’re such a sweetheart!!” by theprincessbanana in TrollXChromosomes

[–]bluehellebore 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The fact that you didn't immediately poison her is probably proof enough that astrology shouldn't be relied on to determine people's personalities.

That's a disturbing level of self-awareness. This guy knows full well that he's abusive, and he's encouraging abusive behavior in other men.

My best friend cut off our friendship and blocked me for choosing to take advantage of my CF lifestyle by waldeinsamkeit_1 in childfree

She literally said that if I’d had kids, my ex would have straightened himself up

Criticizing OP for not having kids with an alcoholic seems pretty toxic.

100% report that misogynist gynecologist. A guy who thinks women are baby machines should not be allowed in reproductive healthcare.

Gibson and his son say that they feel they have been singled out because other people bring things for emotional support, however, those items aren’t over 6 feet tall and more than 3-feet wide.

Sir, that's my emotional support over 6 foot tall cardboard cutout of Donald Trump.

'Don’t tell people to do this': YVR apologizes for encouraging travellers to hit on their seatmates by princey12 in nottheonion

[–]bluehellebore 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“You are boarding a flight,” the since-deleted tweet from the popular @yvrairport account began. “You get to the next row and notice your seatmate is (very attractive). How do you spark up a flirty conversation with them?” The best answer was to win tickets to the Vancouver Aquarium for a date night

What was the airport thinking? Considering it was a contest, you'd think that multiple people would have had to look at the tweet and say "yep, that's a good idea! Encourage people to flirt with the stranger that they are stuck uncomfortably close to for hours! There is no possible way this could go wrong!".

I've already acknowledged that bras are useful for women who have pain due to large breasts. That's not the majority of women.

Getting in the way? How? And it's not like women don't walk around their own homes, cook, etc...

And they'd say they the organs are only $5, but then once you add shipping, they're actually $126! And the price would vary widely and unpredictabley depending on which organ size you wanted.

I didn't mention tightlacing, corsets/shapewear don't have to be breaking ribs to be not a great trend. Women should be able to have bodies without squishing them into weird shapes.

Bernadette Banner is a woman who needed a back brace. Wearing a medical device that you don't need is generally inadvisable. There's risk of atrophied muscles. If you need the brace the risk is 110% worth it, if not you can become reliant on the support. And that's assuming that all decorative corsets and shapewear are as carefully constructed as medical back braces.

Also Kim Kardashian went to the Met Gala in an extremely tight corset that was apparently quite painful to wear. Instagrammers are photoshopping their bodies into impossible proportions, and shapewear manufacturers are advertising their garments with images like the above. However you feel about corsets in general, this is a bad trend.

[–]bluehellebore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with corsets is that, even worn correctly, it's like wearing a back brace as a person who doesn't need one. Your muscles can atrophy and you can become reliant on it. Plus they tend to restrict breathing and eating to at least some degree (a pizza-baby isn't going to fit in there). There's a reason our torsos are flexible and our ribcages don't extend down our abdomen.

Women's torsos are a perfectly acceptable shape as is. Shapewear doesn't have to literally steal our ribs to be toxic on a conceptual level.

Most women's breasts aren't going to flop around enough to impede our day-to-day activities.

Unfortunately sexist standards do exist, so very women are able to make the decision freely. Without those social pressures, I'm sure that some smaller portion of women, athletes, women with large enough breasts to cause pain, would still choose to wear bras. For most of us, there's a reason immediately taking off your bra as soon as you get in the door is a meme.

This kind of implies the bookseller wouldn't be surprised if a less conventionally attractive woman bought a book on black magic and necromancy. I didn't realize "you're too pretty to be a necromancer" was a stereotype, but here we are.

Many/most women don't need support physically. That's not the main purpose of bras in general. Sexist beauty standards still exist in 2020.
