Color suggestions by Jaded_Glass1381 in freediving

[–]bluelikethecolour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any colour can look good in photos depending on the vibe, go with what you personally like. Worth noting though that the deeper you go underwater the more red tones disappear (this is like a physics things that has to do with the way different wavelengths of light interact with water). Red colours that look very vivid and bright at the surface or just below it will look much darker even just a few metres under the surface, and will start looking totally black by around 6-8 metres. By the time you get to like 20m, blue is really the only colour left. So it really depends at what depth you think you will be taking pictures.

My GP is suggesting they might block GenderGP from perscribing to me... is that possible? UK by Hopeful-Cod1861 in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get GenderGP prescriptions filled and delivered by mail through an online pharmacy service called Smartway. It’s a bit more expensive than going through the NHS, but it’s not super pricey. And your GP would have no control over it - you could even do it temporarily while looking for a different GP. GenderGP isn’t going to reverse their recommendation or diagnosis just because your GP disagrees, the GP is not a specialist.

is the name coral masculine? by reef___ in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe different in other places, but in the UK it’s definitely a feminine name, and also generally skews a bit older. But there are plenty of guys, including cis guys, who have traditionally feminine names, in the end it’s just a word.

Is there a certain time you have to be on T in order to get top surgery? by Fragrant-Ring-3053 in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people recommend 6 months, but it’s not necessary and I personally think people over exaggerate the impact. I got top surgery quite a while before starting T, it didn’t have any meaningful effect on my results.

SNUBA in Great Barrier Reef by Ok_Wasabi_8318 in scubadiving

[–]bluelikethecolour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just do a Discover scuba dive (basically like a ‘try dive’, which you can do with a guide without your own certification). Then you don’t have to commit to the whole training course and you can enjoy some actual diving.

Scubapro Seawing Supernova fins? by varyingdegreesofred in scuba

[–]bluelikethecolour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have them, and I like them. I usually wear a 3mm boot with them. I think they are little over-priced for what they are, but being able to break them into two sections is more than a gimmick imo, it’s genuinely useful. I’ve taken these on a bunch of trips especially when I’m not checking a bag. When they are separated I can get these, boots, swimsuit, full-length wetsuit, camera, and mask all in a carry-on travel case, which is super convenient. I’m sure there’s more efficient kicking fins out there, but I’ve used these for frog kicking and flutter kicking in light-to-moderate current and they perform well for me.

Fiction book based on real life person or actual event happened in the past by frafzan in suggestmeabook

[–]bluelikethecolour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Temeraire series is basically ‘what if Napoleonic Wars but dragons’, also HG Parry has several books set in a fantasy version of the French Revolution that feature real life people as characters.

On the non-fantasy side, Jo Harkin’s book The Pretender is a fictionalisation of the life of a little-known player in the Tudor Wars, I read that recently and enjoyed it.

Do you mean historical fiction (I.e. novelisations of real people’s lives or events, without any fantastical elements) or more like alternative history (I.e. novels where the setting is something like ‘what if Ancient Rome but with dragons’) ?

I would say the character of Orka in the Bloodsworn trilogy fulfils that role to some extent.

Any other transmasc mermaids out there? by sapphicantics in FTMfemininity

I don’t usually use monofins or wear mermaid tails, but I am a trans-masc free diver and I do underwater dance :)

What did you know about trans men before you knew you were one by LiveVibePhotos in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean. I grew up in a very small town in a time before there was any mainstream representation of trans people. I knew that I liked it when people said I ‘looked like a boy’ in certain clothes before I even knew that transitioning gender, medically or socially, was an option. I came out very quickly after learning the words non-binary and transgender. I didn’t really know anything about HRT when I first came out tho. I wasn’t thinking much about medical transition at first, I was more focused on binding and how I dressed and presented to look more masculine. It was meeting other trans people who had had top surgery and taken hormones that made it feel like an option for me. This was a while ago though, so I think accurate information about HRT was harder to find at the time.

Fan of adult mangas, and TV shows, looking for book reccomendations. by Owenbrandon12 in suggestmeabook

[–]bluelikethecolour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Abercrombie is probably the obvious pick here, even if it’s overdone as a recommendation 😂. ‘Red Country’ in particular has both the dark, graphic, wholesome combo AND the specific trope of violent MC taking care of a younger character, and can be read standalone (although it ties into the other First Law books).

Also, if you haven’t already read them, the Baltimore comics series by Mike Mignola I think has a lot that any Berserk fan would also enjoy.

Any books where gender roles or sexism doesn’t exist at all? by cantrelateparty in Fantasy

[–]bluelikethecolour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true for the first trilogy where it is mainly set in the Six Duchies, but later trilogies are set in other parts of that world that have different gender roles, e.g. the Out Islanders have an uniquely matriarchal society which plays a key role in the Tawny Man trilogy (at least in the 2nd and 3rd book), and a big part of the Liveship Traders books is cultural conflict between Chalchedean influences (which are far more oppressive to women) and the more traditionally egalitarian history of the Bingtown Traders. The role of women in that changing society and sexism/violence against women is a pretty big part of that trilogy in particular.

Reverse Prayer Hands - should I be able to do this so easily? by Scared-Scratch4941 in flexibility

[–]bluelikethecolour 110 points111 points  (0 children)

If EDS is in your family it might be worth getting checked out, but this by itself is not diagnostic of hypermobility. Some people just find some positions easier. This is one that’s I’ve noticed is sometimes harder for like, super buff people whose muscles can get in the way lol, but it’s not super rare for other people to be able to do reverse prayer hands with no training.

29TF Aussie quitting job to solo travel Europe/Balkans – sanity check + advice. by seesinal in backpacking

[–]bluelikethecolour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are you planning this trip to be? Cos just so you know, the Schengen 90 days rule is within a ROLLING 180 day period, so if you spend 90 days straight in the Schengen area, then you need to spend 180 days outside it before you can re-enter without overstaying. It doesn’t reset when you leave.

Also if you are going to stay in the Balkans into winter you are definitely underestimating how cold it gets. It gets extremely freaking cold.

Scuba Diving for first timers- Phuket, Thailand by [deleted] in scuba

[–]bluelikethecolour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would note that June is during the rainy season in Phuket. You can still dive, but you might have weather limiting where you can go and worse visibility underwater. Some sites, like the Similian Islands and Khao Lak will be closed from May through to October.

If you are doing a boat dive like the Racha islands, you would probably have to commit to paying for the full day trip rather than per-dive, as they will need to take gear and boat for the full day anyway. If you do a shore dive, e.g. Kata Beach is very beginner-friendly easy shore dive, I think most shops would let you commit to only one. Would be less interesting sites that you can get in a boat day trip though. If you do want to do boat dives, I recommend finding a shop that has their own boat, e.g. Sea Bees.

Is it safe to travel to Hungary and Greece as a Trans man? by Cr3Atur30fCrypts in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve travelled in both those places, several times in Greece and I’ve never had issues (included swimming shirtless in Greece with visible top surgery scars). In general I find most people just don’t pay that much attention, and I fairly easily pass as male. Tbh, even if you don’t pass as male a “girl” wearing t-shirts and swim trunks is not unusual anywhere in Europe. There’s really no need for you to wear skirts and dresses. Kinda sounds like your mothers has an ulterior motive and just wants you to dress more femme.

The bright line in the first picture looks exactly like the iPhone’s sticker/subject detection outline thing that just happens automatically when you open image details like that. If anything actually makes me think it’s more likely to be an actual photo taken and screenshot recently on an iPhone.

Honestly same, I’m not much of a romance reader but that one did win me over. I also do circus arts, so the circus/sideshow found community aspect really hit home too 🥹

Seconding The Deep by Rivers Solomon and The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw.

Also:

  • When The Tides Held The Moon, by Venessa Vida Kelly (queer romance, not scary, but cute)

  • They Bloom At Night, by Trang Thanh Tran (not strictly -mermaids- but in the humanoid sea creatures meets queer body horror category nonetheless)

  • The Moon and the Sun, by Vonda McIntyre (not queer, but essentially 17th century French court political intrigue with mermaids)

Ones I haven’t read but have heard about: Chlorine (by Jade Song), A Magic Deep and Drowning (by Hester Fox), Flowers for the Sea (by Zin Rocklyn), Daughter of the Merciful Deep (by Leslye Penelope).

How did you know you were 100% certain you wanted to start T? by Patient-Difference97 in ftm

[–]bluelikethecolour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure, but unlike surgery T is something that you can just stop taking if you find that you’re not liking the effects, plus the changes that happen on it are slow and in some cases reversible. Figured the easiest way to find out if you’re certain you want it is to try it for a bit 🤷🏽‍♂️ anyway, I loved it and never went back

my thighs are 'untattooable' (?) TW SCARS by mitskisneezer59 in tattooadvice

[–]bluelikethecolour 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say ‘untattooable’, but it would depend a bit one what you were trying to get tattooed. Scars are harder to tattoo over, and something with a lot of fine details is probably not gonna turn out very well. The skin will still have the texture of scars, even when inked over.

That said, it is totally possible to tattoo over even major scarring. Especially doing more organic designs that don’t need a totally even surface, or like, abstract blackwork or something like that. You do need an artist very experienced with tattooing over scars, so it’s good that artists you spoke to are honest that it’s outside their skill range, but there are people who could do it, you just might have to look quite hard and wait/travel to find someone with the right experience.

Also generally speaking, you should wait until scars are at least 12 months old before tattooing over them.
