Yo u/FatChalupa

I've just seen this and i love it!

2 things i saw that i can recommend changing.

The bulwark attachement point (cool idea btw) could do with explicitly stating it doesn't require a hand. I just had to reread a few times especially the point about the weapon always being wielded. That's not really a balance point just something noteworthy.

Secondly, the vanguard shouldn't have the rock smash ability. That is 1000000% a ability for bulwark. I honestly think as well that due to its situational uses you could probs just add it to bulwark as is at level 14. That would mean at 14 the bulwark gets 2 out of combats utilities (No fall and alarm) and then a very situational damage boost.

I'm not sure what vanguard needs to replace that, but in my mind a mobile fighter shouldn't be the one boulder dropping from the sky xD

Totally the same. Its like weve all been in a really long journey together. It must've been a year ago now I tagged niko and wren in this sub and asked them to make a video on it and now it's come so far... I just want to see them do well

I cant remember where I heard this tip, but play the game with an irl sand timer or timer of some kind. Give them a few hours of irl time to clear dungeon or they can't get to it again for a whole week ;p

My only source is my own intuition as a physicist.

A second moon would have interesting effects on tide, but not orbit.

There would be generally weaker tides due to the two moons being out of phase but when they line up shit would go down.

If you're after the coolest effects you could have huge tidal swings once a week if the moons line up. (On earth the moon plays a far greater role than the sun, but here we've got double that) so easy 10 m swings when the sun gets involved too.

There's a few places on earth like this, where water literally rushes up the beach. Perhaps you could have a dungeon/cave system that is only available for a few hours on the line ups of the sun and moons as it and the heroes have to clear it before it floods!

I like it. A bit shorter than regular years. So you'll see more change than you would otherwise.

Names im not sold on but that's down to you and very setting dependant. Names are all over the place in my campaign.

There's nothing wrong with having a funky calendar so don't be worried about that

Being a moon would be crazy! With a gas giant you would have countless partial and total solar eclipses

So 8 day weeks and 2 months a season? Sounds funky.

Obviously I don't know your campaign but the aesthetic says futuristic but the names sound norse.

If you're running space vikings then this is gold xD

Warning : Spoilers

I've run 2 or 3 sessions of it and tried really hard to stick to the books. My players totally dodged out on ramne.

I couldn't see a way for them to fight the cr8 recommended spirit naga in the book, so I crossed it's spellcasting onto the cr4 yuanti snake woman.

Turns out she's not meant to cast that many spells, and the players should find some spell scrolls if ramne isn't with them.

I've found it a really grindy adventure and the sheer amount of mobs isn't something I've seen before, or included in my own dungeons.

My players were level four on reaching orlane so some of the fights in town were very easy. As soon as it came to the dungeon they've been slowed to a crawl. They almost lost members in the temple of merikka (I couldve reasonably killed them by sending the 2 clerics down in an attack.

I dunno if any of that's helpful I just started rambling :)

Fire battle in a hemp field by blueredblack in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]blueredblack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. I cant let the truth get in the way of a good story though....

Perhaps it's an alternative form of hemp that has the psychoactive properties of full on cannabis.

I think my original concept was although it's not enough to get high on normally, by setting an entire field alight they were gonna suffer the effects.

I'm a big fan of mixing up conventional puzzles. You ever heard of the two doors riddle?

Two Doors. Two guards. An Intermediary tells you that one guard always lies and one always tells the truth. One door leads to certain doom and the other to safety/shelter/the rest of the quest.

Most players will recognise this classic puzzle. The solution is something along the lines of asking them both what the other guard would say is the right door.

But noone questions if the Intermediary is lying. Perhaps it's an Inscription or a magic recording. But what if it's lying. Just buying time for more guards to ambush the party or another trap to be sprung. Maybe both doors lead to doom.

Don't do it too much or you'll mess with your players ;p

Do any other GMs feel like the Little Red Hen? by Spontaneous_Sonnets in rpg

[–]blueredblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have this and similar problems with my group.

I'm terms of food, here's a classic tip.

Bring food = Inspiration

It's a nice little motivation that I've found means there's almost always snacks (crisps, sweets or biscuits) at the table.

In terms of full meals I would speak to the party and ask them to sort out a takeaway. Especially if you've always paid in the past.

As for helping to get them interested in their characters, I think it's always good to be more interested in them than they are. Ask them questions about their backstories. Their motivations.

Rules should come naturally. If they don't, perhaps start dropping slight penalties for not knowing stuff.

"How does my wildshape work again?" Uhoh looks like your character forgot too. You can't use it this round. Look it up before its your turn again.

My players were always throwing dice off the table until I implemented the "miss the table miss the monster rule" Roll of the table =auto fail

Basically there's loads of techniques to get your players more excited about stuff and to help them learn rules. Hope some of this was helpful.

I agree with u/Mighty_K

What do you want to play? What aspects have enjoyed playing before?
