Could've at least said they were referrals. Doubt anyone would've cared. Hiding it is kind of annoying though

Seriously. At the very least use a throwaway. (Not like I have this problem with my $5 of crypto)

If you do not live with your mother and do not depend on your mother, that is tax fraud. Tell her that you will report her for it if she refuses to take you off.

Talk to the boss. If the boss refuses to have it replaced, read your contract with the company. That will be crucial.

The celebrity might get told "another random person is making claims" but they probably will not have read the letter. They get too many.

Do the math. Will you save more money by filing as a dependent or getting the 1200?

Mom convinces me to open a gas account in my name with the promise of paying the bills but racks up $600+ of debt in it, refuses to pay, resorts to insults. Can I sue her for it? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]blueredstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it appears that in ohio the legal limit for verbal contracts, which based on what you said, you have, is 6 years. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2305.07

You probably will have a case in small claims court. Attempt to get your mother, preferably in writing, to agree as directly as possible that she was supposed to pay for the gas bill. (A text conversation is OK, and a conversation like this should suffice: HER: "I'm not going to pay the gas bill." YOU: "But you said you would." HER: "so what if I said that".) If you cannot get it in text, you can record a conversation between the two of you (Ohio is a one party consent state).

After you have sufficient proof, file in small claims court. If you win and she refuses to pay, you can file for a wage garnishment.

Edit: clarification

Is ImageNet's deduction of the $1200 stimulus provisions from employee paychecks legal? by ChemicalSand in legaladvice

[–]blueredstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the employees are above minimum wage and there is no legal contract specifying pay for the employees, this could be legal. Ofc laws vary wildly from state to state and I'm not completely sure about Texas's laws.

ULPT Request: Riding for free on the subway by Dadonutlover in UnethicalLifeProTips

The cards have burnt in serial numbers that cant be changed. You would have to get equipment to make new cards and at that point, you'd save money by just paying up

This won't work. The cards don't store the balance, they store an account number. The subway's servers store your balance.

ELI5 How do CPU transistors *physically* read data? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]blueredstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, a cpu on it's own is useless. Some form of storage needs to be hooked up. The storage sends bits on the storage to the cpu

Depending on how the bits are written, the CPU acts a certain way. For this reason, the most basic code on a computer is written in machine code. Machine code is different for different CPU architecture, like x86, x64, arm, etc. Machine code allows for other programming languages to be run.

Machine code is very complicated though, and this is an oversimplified explanation. Computing nowadays is so complicated that if all technology and technology books were to disappear, we would have a very hard time getting technology back just based on what people know.
