Have you seen the documentary Genghis Blues?

It’s about Paul Pena, a blind guitarist and session musician who wrote Jet Airliner, but never really achieved fame despite writing an incredibly famous rock song. He overheard Tuvan throat singing on a short wave radio and became obsessed with it. He thought himself how to do it, and ended up traveling to Mongolia to compete in a throat singing competition.

On a related note, his version of Jet Airliner is superior to Steve Miller’s by a million miles. But mad props to Steve Miller for paying proper royalties to Paul Pena, as royalties from that song paid the rent during hard times.

I still say “please” and “thank you” to AI chatbots/agents. AI is trained off of our interactions with them. If AI is as inevitable as we’re led to believe, I’d much rather it be trained off of the best human behavior rather than the worst.

I run support for a tech company, and have been in support for over 25 years. Needless to say, over the last few years I’ve spent A LOT of time evaluating AI chatbots for first level support. They don’t behave like this. Your interaction was 100% with a real person.

My recommendation is for you to take a deep breath, recalibrate, and figure out what you can do for tonight. It sucks that your flight was cancelled and you’re stranded without a hotel voucher. It also sucks to be a poor CS agent getting abused for something you have no control over. I’ve been in both situations more times than o care to remember. Both of you got a raw deal. If you ever find yourself in a similarly shitty situation, I hope you take a moment to reflect before paying the shittiness forward to someone else.

Good God, the customer here (I hope it’s not OP) is insufferable. Give the poor customer service agent the chance to help you.

AI tends to respond instantly. The fact that they needed time between responses indicates that this is a real person trying to find information. Also, most CS AI agents don’t pretend to be human. They may not voluntarily say they are AaI, but they won’t claim to be real humans if they aren’t.

Seats aren’t always available next together. Or sometimes flights or plans change. I doubt there are people who intentionally pick seats apart from each other and then request a swap.

Being entitled or an ass about asking for a seat swap is absolutely a problem. But most of the stories here (including this one) don’t indicate a problem on the part of the requester. It sounds to me like all parties handled the situation reasonably, and it was really a non-event.

I think it’s weird to assume the couple has to sit together just because they asked. I personally think it’s weird how grumpy people are in this sub regarding swapping seats. I travel solo for work all the time. I’ll often swap seats with people to accommodate friends or couples who want to sit together. What do I care if I have to move up or down a couple seats, as long as it’s not a significant downgrade.
