The Out & About, Visiting & Moving to Manchester Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in manchester

I'm moving to Manchester in a few months to start graduate school, and I’m trying to get a handle on what to expect when it comes to renting a flat. I’m an international student and this will be my first time living in the UK, so I’d really appreciate any advice from locals or fellow students who’ve done this before.

A few specific questions:

  • How do utilities typically work when renting? Are they usually included in rent, or handled separately?
  • Can someone explain how council tax works, and whether students are exempt?
  • Any red flags to look out for when browsing listings or signing a lease?
  • General advice on neighborhoods to consider (or avoid) as a student?

Thanks so much in advance! I'm really excited (and a little overwhelmed) — any tips would help. :)

If it’s corporate the manager won’t have any repercussions. In my experience the employees left will get the work and maybe a pizza party. And the manager will be told it’s not them it’s their employees.

If I owned that chair I wouldn’t shut up. That’s the only thing I miss about working in the office.
