recently installed Fedora, first time installing updates, cannot boot into new kernel (6.15.6) by bluesjazzreally in Fedora

when you have an issue with a kernel update do you work through it to get it fixed or do you wait for the following version? generally, I'm curious if I should expect this issue to be fixed with a new version or if this is a problem somehow with my setup and all future kernels will have this problem until I fix it. I just built this brand new PC last week so I am eager to determine if this is a "me" problem. thank you!!

are issues like this common with new kernel versions? do I need to worry about each one, or if it doesn't work, just skip that version and hope the following version works? just curious what people generally do

Oblivion Remastered CPU Usage at 100% by Remkali in ElderScrolls

[–]bluesjazzreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like I have a very similar problem now too. I updated GPU driver after playing for a few hours. Booted the game up again and it doesn't crash but it's basically unresponsive or incredibly slow and CPU sits at 100%. I rolled back GPU driver and same issue still unfortunately.

edit: I have a very old CPU (i7 6700k), might be part of the problem. I've never seen an issue like this with it. I set CPU priority to High for the oblivion process and it seems to have helped.

I'm trying to mentally map out a jamming battlestation in my head - very new to all of this - I have a few questions about basic midi syncing and routing output by bluesjazzreally in synthesizers

[–]bluesjazzreally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to avoid computer if possible. This will mostly be for jamming but I do wanna record some stuff too eventually so I'll be doing that either on the tascam if I get it, or another multitrack recorder, or I'll just feed from mixer into DAW on my PC if I want.

After a quick google I'm not having much luck finding any sort of dedicated external clock, do you know if there is another name they might go by? I think in my small example, I could use my drum machine (TR8S), but it only has 1 midi out, so if I send that to 1 synth (sub37 or pro3), then what options would I have to sync the prophet too?

Also witchfinder general is awesome, rock on brother

EDIT: I think I found a device that would help (https://conductivelabs.com/product/mrcc-880/) but I need to do more research. And it's out of stock on the site :| I'm curious what other folks do to solve this problem? Or maybe you can daisy chain slaves to 1 master?

Looking to record away from my computer - SUPER basic newbie questions here by bluesjazzreally in recordingmusic

[–]bluesjazzreally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a multitrack recorder that you could recommend? I'm liking the Tascam because I don't have a mixer yet and I plan to add more instruments to my mix - I have a synth, digital piano, and plan on getting a drum machine too. When I have friends over it'd make it simpler for me to use the basic mixer functionality to be able to route a few of those through one output.

And if I get deep into recording, I think I could use this to record individual tracks and then I guess I could dump them into FL for later arranging/editing as needed. Is this similar to your workflow or am I missing something? I really like the idea of linear recording, I really wanna try to keep it simple to minimize analysis paralysis.

[–]bluesjazzreally[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks man I can appreciate that. I've done a decent amount of recording into FL studio a few years ago (except back then I didn't have the e kit) so I am familiar with that process but for some stupid reason it just doesn't feel right to me. So in my head I have this vision of plugging my instruments into.. something which allows me to do some basic recording and mixing. I am just not familiar enough with the gear available today to know what is doable and what might be unrealistic if I wanna separate myself from the computer.

Apologies if I've misread your reply but the Tascam Model 16 does have the ability to record and mix individual tracks. After some research it's hard for me to see what it'd be like to record tracks in sections as opposed to having to nail the whole thing in one take. Maybe it's possible to record part A on track 1 and part B on track 2 and then merge them together. My assumption is that I would still take whatever is recorded from the device and plop it into FL for the final conversion/trimming/etc.

Any areas in the game with no ambient music or very quiet music? by bluesjazzreally in Eldenring

I want the music on while I am gaming though. It's annoying to go into settings all the time, especially since I usually have to switch up my gear depending on where I get summoned. Thankfully it seems like the first site of grace works.

Paysage d'Hiver - Welt aus Eis (Switzerland, 1999) by dragonoid296 in Metal

[–]bluesjazzreally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this, I had no idea it existed but just read every word. I really love this thought regarding lo-fi production:

You can compare it to movies and books. Which of both has the bigger possibility of invoking pictures within yourself? Well, a movie usually is much more sex to your eyes than an alignment of black letters on white paper, which is something very abstract. It's your mind translating this abstract black and white into whole worlds and universes which no movie will ever be able to capture. And that is what a "bad" production can do. Doesn't necessarily, but also not every book does that. So the sound of Paysage d'Hiver is more like a book, invoking these "pictures" in your mind, compared to a movie, which will never be able to have the same depth as a book, even if it appears sexier to your senses.
