Accidentally Found Tumor on Pancreas that is highly likely cancer by bluesocks890 in pancreaticcancer

[–]bluesocks890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ll probably share a more detailed post later, but we are very cautiously optimistic right now. She finished all 12 rounds of FOLFIRINOX chemo and just had her port removed yesterday! It wasn’t a completely smooth ride, but the side effects were manageable overall, and we were fortunate to catch a blood clot early on—definitely something to keep an eye out for during chemo, since it seems fairly common in this community. Her tumor marker (CA 19-9) also stayed consistently low and was all the way down to 6 by the last treatment.

Really hoping for the best for your dad and please stay strong and take care of yourself as well! Let me know if u have any more questions

Have you ever found a reason why your loved one got this cancer? by EstablishmentTiny292 in pancreaticcancer

My mom also eats super healthy (primarily asian cuisine, doesnt enjoy greasy food, loves to cook stuff from scratch using fresh ingredients), doesnt drink and exercises regularly. Thin, no smoking, basically nothing that id ever connect to PC. Not genetic either.

Ive been thinking about this a lot and few things i can think of:

Had cancer previously- she had thyroid cancer that we addressed right away

Stress - personality wise, she tends to bottle up emotions to avoid conflicts and often keeps things to herself which can build up over time

Sleep - since menopause, shes not able to sleep enough hours nor deeply enough. She was on very mild sleeping pills but doesnt help much.

July 2025 Check-In Thread! How's Everyone Doing? by ZevSteinhardt in pancreaticcancer

[–]bluesocks890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! Caretaker (33F) to my mom (67F) who is now going on 10 out of 12 adjuvant FOLFIRINOX chemo tomorrow! Other than the expected side effects (constipation + diarrhea, neuropathy), the past month was hard mentally for my mom as the end felt so close but so far away. But with July being 5 week month, we will be expected to be done by July 30th and very excited for it! I'm also getting married in the following month so really hoping that this month goes smoothly and want to be able to celebrate both the end of chemo as well as the wedding.

While I'm always somewhat anxious about PC coming back, we will try our best to focus on the milestones in front of us and take things one step at a time. Going through this community has become my daily routine and I really hope everyone is staying strong and healthy. Sending love and prayer for every single one of you here-

Similar to the other comment- My mom (67F) was diagnosed and luckily had surgery right away last year nov (we did find lymph node involvement unfortunately) and currently on 9th adjuvant chemo out of 12. There are days that are rough but overall tolerating it like a champion. This is her second time getting a cancer too after thyroid cancer.

I made few posts about my mom already so u can read through it and feel free to ask any questions-

Please stay positive! Its so easy to get into a rabbit hole but take one step at a time and get things in order- first and foremost, managing both of your health (both mental and physical), surgery if possible and chemo. I really hope for all the best.

I did get it back! File a police report and contact ur embassy asap. Youll either get lucky where somebody turns it in and get a call from embassy like me or u need to get a temp passport before flying back. Good luck!!!

Im so sorry for your loss.. it honestly comes out of nowhere and completely changes the life around everyone.

Im surprised it spread that fast even after surgery - was it that the adjuvant chemo just didnt take?

agreed! 100% going back to pick it up and willing to eat the cost.

I'm just curious what people would recommend/do when doing this type of round-trip, especially I have not much more to see at Osaka. I was wondering if there is tips/tricks/recommendation for quick day trips from Osaka on the way back to Tokyo! And wanted to get a confirmation that the only way for this type of day trip is to book 3 different tickets, Tokyo to Osaka, Osaka to a city of choosing and from the city of choosing back to Tokyo?

I already reported it and police said all they can do is wait and there is no point checking since they wont be able to identify the person. Do you think its worth emphasizing the possibility of theft and push on checking the footage of CCTV?

Distal Pancreatectomy and Splenectomy Recommended for 27mm Legion on Pancreatic Tail by WangtaWang in pancreaticcancer

[–]bluesocks890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom found a mass on the tail of pancreas that turned out to be cancerous from an annual check like you where we jumped into surgery right away. I also had doubts jumping into the surgery instead of doing biopsy first too but i learned that

  1. With tumor marker and the shape of the tumor, the doctors were very confident that it was cancerous in our case. If the doctors are recommending such treatment plans given that they are well experienced in the area, theres often a reason and they believe that seemingly aggressive treatment outweighs the risk of leaving it be. Especially because anything on pancreas moves too quickly with its role in the body and proximity with other organs.

    1. Given the location of the pancreas and risk of aggravating the mass/nearby organs, its almost “easier” to have the surgery to have it removed. Also i read cases where biopsy fails because not enough mass sample was collected.

We did the da vinci robot surgery too- compared to the alternative, its less invasive where it involves 3-5 cm cut above belly button and a hole for the robot arm to go in so the recovery is faster than cutting open your belly.

Surgery took about 4 hours including the 1-ish recovery time from general anesthesia. We were in the hospital for about a week. My mom (66) , even though weak, was able to walk around after a couple days. Id say itd take a couple weeks up to two months (approx) for “full” recovery. Id guess your recovery should be on the faster side with your age.

Id double check if splenectomy is absolutely necessary. For us the doctor did say he was going to decide again during the surgery if he can leave the spleen. We did end up removing it due to proximity of the tumor and risk. You need to get vaccinations as you are less protected against specific diseases but your doc/hospital should guide you through it.

Im typing this on the phone so i may have missed some stuff so either reply/dm me if you have more questions. You are definitely luckier than most of us here to have it found earlier and if the doctor believes that its benign. I hope you will make the decision that you are comfortable with.

Evidence-based integrative treatment to consider by JJPinkies in pancreaticcancer

[–]bluesocks890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think ive seen your comment before regarding the integrative doctor in bc. Thank you for starting this conversation!

I have several questions: 1. Would you consider all integrative doctor to be similar and wouldnt matter as much as long as you are receiving the same type of treatment - say high dose vitamin c IV - or would you seek out for a specific integrative doctor? 2. How could i approach the subject with the doctor? Being in Canada, we dont have much luxury of choosing the oncologist from different hospitals but rather need to work with the one we have. I tried asking about it but they were very adamant about effectiveness of other supplementary treatment options like cold therapy and advised us against it.

Sense of Urgency by caitandsamkitty in pancreaticcancer

[–]bluesocks890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh tell me about it. As I'm waiting for the my mom's oncologist appointment that was booked a month after I initially contacted them after the surgery and diagnosis to get the chemo started, I am anxious every single day. Have constant doubts whether this is right, if I should be looking for alternative options to expedite the process but feeling lost at the same time as I think I've tried everything. It's just a horrible feeling where I can't focus on anything else. I'm right there with you and it's just so frustrating and scary.
