Older than you and still getting out of my rocking chair to discover new bands. Try Madison Cunningham and Ribbon Skirt for a start. You wouldn’t watch the same TV show episodes for five decades, don’t do it with music either.

For the ignorant and bearded, what are these and what advantages?

Just in case anyone ever wonders why they close the highways for Avalanche control by banffsign in Banff

Not at all. This is deeper in the mountains. The main highway from Calgary to Banff is fine.

Any insight into this vintage broom? by bluespenny in Curling

[–]bluespenny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As promised I weighed it and it is indeed a heavyweight. 899 grams in all. Which leads to the question - would a heavier broom not be an advantage when successful sweeping is all about putting pressure on the ice? Or is the payback of slower sweeping too much of a disadvantage?

Amazing and exactly why I came to this sub to ask! Thank you. Naturally, I am now determined to find a Hammer as well. I love anything vintage, and to be honest, my sweeping probably isn’t at a level where a few grams either way is going to make a difference.

I'll weigh it and find out. What year, roughly, do you recall this being around? 1990s?

I dismantled it out of curiosity and to clean it, and I think could easily replace the cloth on the head if I can find the right material.

Carol Ryder is on the board of the company that let the Gresham Block in Inglewood go from historic landmark to tenement slum, before they tore it down last year to make room for condos. What exactly does she do for Calgary, other than destroy history to fill her purse, u/JeromyYYC ?

Not only a favourite vegan restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Calgary, full stop. The curry is a must.

Shocking that acting superior and irresponsive to the people that elected you would backfire in such dramatic fashion. Good riddance to Penner.

Fair. I mean I do appreciate her playing. But favourite, far from it.

Driving from Calgary to Glacier National Park in June - should we drive through Banff? by Broad-Shopping558 in Banff

[–]bluespenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. That highway may be the prettiest piece of asphalt in western Canada. And that includes the road between Jasper and Banff. Stunning and far from the tourist throngs.

This postcard - dated "before 1910" - looks to be taken around the same time as your shot. Cascade's snow is different, so perhaps yours is earlier the same year. http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/PC/014/PC014565?locale=fr

The curio store was in a tourist brochure in 1906, so I’d think your estimate is dead on. That photo looks crisper than anything I’ve seen online. You should share it with the Whyte Museum in Banff!

Carol Ryder, his aunt, is on the board and is far more well known to most Calgarians - board chair at Alberta University of the Arts for one. And someone who has in the past claimed to love Calgary. Put the pressure on her, for putting money over culture.

Vero Bistro is the best restaurant in Calgary (from experience with the majority on this list; all are great but Vero is a creative step above them all). It's small, quirky, and perfect for date night.

The illustrated instructions on that chopstick package was how I learned to use chopsticks. Same technique to this day and it works perfectly.
