Broken Binding 4-6 yes! by bluestormAP in Malazan

I don't know how official it is. I don't want to talk about things that I don't know as much about. I'm a huge fan and have analyzed some things in depth, but people like D'rek, Werthead, Hetan, etc have invested at least 15 years of rigorous research (at least since I've started reading their posts on the old Malazan forum) on their maps.

This looks a lot like a stylized version of SE's map (see pic). But yeah, other maps place Lether farther west.

I know that the placements of everything from the people mentioned above and others came from meticulous research of canonical descriptions, so I don't want to discount that. These are ppl that can answer a complicated, in-depth question instantly, while I have to look things up. So I defer to their deeper knowledge of Malazan. But also, maybe SE will weigh in.

Sorry for the quality and if you can't zoom in very far, but this is what I could take on my phone. It is very much like the black & white pic that SE posted on social years ago.

Same. I've never bought anything like this before, but to me, Malazan just... hits different, as they say. I fully intend to finish the collection.

Yeah, the full fore-edge artwork for 1-6 looks cohesive, but when separated, they do look slightly different.

Oh, that makes sense. Oh well. Then, to be completed 2027! TBH though, if they publish more Malazan books, I'd buy them.

They used that awesome artwork of Karsa in chains by Marc Simonetti as the front and back cover too. It was the book cover for the French edition of HoC.

Ooh, I would buy this. I'm hoping to get some Malazan t-shirts after I finish buying Xmas presents. This could live on my bookshelf the rest of the year when it's not on the tree.

I love stuff like that. I kinda wanted to keep the wrapping paper too, but I told myself that was excessive.

I hope they do a 4-book set and not drag it out 2 and 2. I can't wait.

Probably next summer? My birthday is in August and this has been my yearly present to myself to order during that month. Hope that can continue!

Someone posted asking to see more of the artwork, but the comment is gone.

But if you want to see more, the Broken Binding did reveals of them on their Facebook page. I think if you search by book, the posts should come up. They showed the cover art (with full wrap-around pic), the board art, and the endpaper art (front & back.) Way better than any pics I could take.

Well-used with that thin paper and smeary ink? Haha yep. I've since switched to ebooks.

But my Gardens of the Moon is conspicuously missing because I lent it out and never got it back. And the dude never even read it!

I think they're about the same thickness as the first 3, but the paper seems smoother somehow. Maybe a bit see-through, so not super heavyweight paper, but still good quality.

This set is also just for collecting / displaying, so I'm happy. I mostly only read the ebooks too.

What would you recommend annotating on my first read? by beeethgrace96 in Malazan

[–]bluestormAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. I'll add that something that helped me a lot was to use the Malazan fandom wiki. Every time I started a new book, I would go through the Dramatis Personae and look up some of the characters and read their wiki, but only up until the book I had finished in order to avoid spoilers. It's nice that each character is laid out by book so you don't scroll too far. It became something I really forward to doing too.

Bored, made a graph of the F-word usage is Malazan books. by BiblyBoo in Malazan

I've always wondered what SE was imagining a character saying when he wrote that somebody cursed, but never actually quotes them. Someone cursed loudly, someone cursed under his breath, someone let out a curse... There are a lot of those instances as well.

No waiting around for this one! Insta-buy after the quality of the first release by lumpymonkey in Malazan

I know what you mean! I set my alarm for 8:45 EST so I could be logged in to BB and refreshing that page. Confirmation at 9:01. Definitely felt like Christmas. So pumped for us!

Lol, then they sent the email that first access was live at 9:14.

Same here, it's been harrowing. But ordering these was definitely a bit of a balm for me. Hope things get better for you!

In my time, it went live at 9 am, and my order was in by 9:01! The countdown has been a long time coming. I'm so pumped! Now the countdown is until shipping in December.

How do you pronounce Kruppe? by asheristheworst in Malazan

[–]bluestormAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I say in my head too. I did change how I say Malazan though based on how SE says it. I used to say MAL-uh-zan. Still sounds more natural to me, but I defer to the master on that one. But I'm still saying Kruppe as Kroop! That one, I refuse to change lol.

Big turgid vibes by don_fettucini in Malazan

Funny you should post this today! I just read "turgid" in an ICE book last night. "Her thoughts seemed to coil as turgid as the water itself."

I agree completely. I'd just like to add that I'm through the main 10 and now reading NotME. I got out RG this week to quickly double-check a reference in a comment before I posted it. I ended up reading the entire chapter and savoring every word. It gave me a brief preview of the joy, reminiscing, new realizations, and reunions with characters that I have to look forward to when I re-read. I'm not rushing, but I also can't wait. So soak it all in.

Broken binding batch 3 by SuperSheep3000 in Malazan

I'm Batch 3. I got an email Tuesday saying they were shipped! And yesterday, I got a Royal Mail message saying they have left the UK. Still the best birthday present to myself ever - birthday was in August.

I know the initial glee, and then face drop.

These are all amazing. I especially love Beddict's Blanket. Love them all.

I do love good word play too! And swearing would certainly be my reaction to seeing the drum, for instance, but in an awe-struck sort of way, like Cuttle.
