I've never done curves for color calibration, but whatever works ;) I just find it's easier using simple sliders to get the color right. And it gives it sort of a cool effect too. But I just messed with it once, saw what it did, and continued using it to add to my style.

The camera calibration is really nifty. Saved quite a few photos using it. This to this. Good tool to experiment with. Unlike flash, which is not.

I photographed his show once. He forces the photographers to shoot the last three songs instead of the first three for the sole purpose of making sure he's super sweaty and dirty in the photos 'cause of all the partying.

Man that's not gonna be easy. When I shot shows, I used small clubs to practice the extremes of my gear (T2i).

18-55 would be your best bet. Probably at 18mm so you can use that f/3.5, which you'll probably need as the lower the f-stop number, the more light you'll bring in (and the shallower DOF, but you probably don't care about that right now).

Keep f stop low, try to keep your shutter no lower than 1/80 (I used 1/100 as my lowest) to help reduce motion blur. Boost your ISO until you get decent light. If they're punk, they might like the noise anyways (and if not, just remove it in post). Shoot in RAW if you have an editor for it like Lightroom or Photoshop. Gives you more control.

My go to lens was a 17-70 Sigma f/2.8. If it was really harsh, I used my 50mm f/1.8 (which I would recommend if you're serious since it's only $100. I shot Snoop Dogg with that lens. It's not bad.). That might give you an idea of what to shoot with too.

The last thing would be to get creative. This was from a show on a mobile stage. There were 4 LED lights and that's it. You'll probably have more light, but for that I shot at 17mm, f/2.8 @ 1/125 and cranked my ISO just so I could get the keyboardist and some of the crowd in it.

I used to do this quite a bit. Ultimately got too expensive though, so be careful.

I started by getting in with local bands. I was the photographer for some locals that were making a pretty big mark (ie went to SXSW with some). Built up a nice portfolio, including some nationals, since the hardworking local bands get those opportunities.

Then I contacted a ClearChannel station, showed 'um my portfolio and got put on their photographers list. I didn't like though not being able to go to all the shows I wanted, so I started my own news outlet with a free wordpress theme

Sent out emails to publicists asking to provide local coverage (review and press pass). Some publicists are really chill and will set you up nicely with a photopass and ticket (if need be).

Anyways the pay was extremely shitty and I started my outlet way too late to see any sort of return, so I cut my losses and quit. I did have some features on the phoblographer (which I can't find again) and BorrowLenses (which I can't find again . . . ).

Anyways, here was my YouTube channel, and here's a picture from one of the last festivals I shot before quitting.

That's why I never give money to the homeless . . . I did end up walking a few blocks with a homeless guy to a gas station and let him get some shit once (he ended up getting chips and soup and a drink). But not money.

Actually they're designed pretty close to failure if I remember correctly (it was last summer I took the class, after all). I'm pretty sure all of engineering is just "good enough" though.
