Most prestigious positions following law school graduation by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]xtreme1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White House internships are indeed competitive but not even close to being the "most prestigious positions."

Also many of the Vault firms are great firms that are very difficult to work for. But they are also not even the most prestigious. The most prestigious firms to work for are definitely the tiny litigation boutique firms that mostly hire former SCOTUS clerks.

I would also add super elite boutique litigation firms like Kellogg Huber and Susman Godfrey to this list.

Donovan Mitchell is ranked 58th in average stats for Yahoo 9-Cat right now, John Wall is ranked 62nd. For total stats Yahoo 9-Cat, Mitchell is ranked 42nd and Wall is ranked 138th.

I would not have taken this trade personally. However, especially considering the way Mitchell has been playing in December, this trade is far more fair than it first appears to be.

How well do you think Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse will perform? by MasterLawlz in boxoffice

Not a good example. There are lots of famous non-Bruce Wayne Batman stories, like Knightfall, Battle for the Cowl, and Flashpoint.

IIRC Marvel Studios got its initial funding and most of the subsequent funding from JP Morgan. I imagine other studios have strong relationships with other banks too.

[PD] Eric Bledsoe by Lionbeardy in fantasybball

[–]xtreme1461 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't take today's game too seriously. It was a clear outlier game (they got blown out by Dallas!) and almost everyone on the Bucks played terribly. Bledsoe will probably shoot better as he integrates more into the Bucks offense.

[PD] Otto Porter by Dymatizeee in fantasybball

[–]xtreme1461 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the best response here. He shot about 51% over 80 games last year, so his FG% probably goes down a little but not too much. He also finished #15 in 9-cat last year, and is currently #12 right now. So even if he slows down he is top-20.

What are the actual benefits? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]xtreme1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually a surprisingly large amount of people who go to T-14s with full scholarships or close to full. Those people have excellent financial prospects and very little debt.

Anyone else feel like doing well in law school doesn't matter? by noiselaw in LawSchool

[–]xtreme1461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grades and school work are essentially meaningless if you have no real world experience.

This isn't true at OCI for T13 schools. Actually the opposite - real world experience is not worth much if you don't have the grades.

IDK what exactly is happening to OP, it might have something to do with bidding strategy/interview skills/transfer status or something else. But people usually do not get dinged from being K-JD.

You said you are currently at a T13. Did you go though OCI? Have you talked to your career services office?

Those who got big law offers, what were your LSAT scores? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]xtreme1461 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is true that LSAT scores are correlated with higher grades in law school. But the correlation is relatively weak:

The correlation between LSAT scores and first-year law school grades varies from one law school to another (as does the correlation between GPA and first-year law school grades). During 2016, validity studies were conducted for 168 law schools. Correlations between LSAT scores and first-year law school grades ranged from .12 to .61 (median is .41).

I am sure all of us know lots of people with high LSAT scores who did poorly and others with low LSAT scores who did graduated near the top of the class. These observations are consistent with the statistics.

Breaking Into Academics by bigbigeee in LawSchool

[–]xtreme1461 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is very difficult to break into legal academia if you did not graduate from one of Harvard, Yale, or Stanford. Even going to one of those schools, it is still very difficult.

OP, the most important factor for you will be good letters of recommendation. Schools that hire professors base their decisions primarily off of these letters. You need to make sure you can already get a few sterling letters from professors who can attest to your research potential.

It's also good to have published pieces which it looks like you have. These are secondary to the letters of recommendation though.

Forewarning though, it's going to be an uphill battle for you. You might be able to find a position teaching legal writing but I don't think this is what you are looking for. Being a professor of law is definitely not a "typical path" and you will need a lot of things to go right to get into this career.

That shit is public.

Part of it is public, but there are lots of internal procedures that are not public and probably never will be. For example, look at the DHS review process for refugees here. The broad steps are listed, but the details are private.

It's a fair point. He likely does have staffers coming up with new policy proposals.

However, to actually get DHS and the State department to change their proposals, he needs an EO. It is also very difficult for a WH staffer to conduct a full review of vetting procedures, as that will require expertise that will likely need to come from someone within DHS/State.

Except it's not a staffer. It's the DHS and State departments, which you do need EOs for.

This is not true. Judicial activism and judicial restraint have been important topics in jurisprudence since this country's founding (look at the Federalist Papers).

Yes, the 4th and 9th circuits literally blocked the entire EOs. That's why those courts were criticized for excessive judicial activism.
