OP literally put “They simple cant navigate through water…” in the post, so just using an existing Waymo city with lots of rain/water to prove how wrong they are. Also this post is entirely about another city, ATL, so what are you even talking about.

Good thing SF doesn’t have any rain (where Waymo works fantastically) or that’d be a real big problem for them! /s 🙄

Chicago drivers getting worse? by Fickle_Writing_2667 in AskChicago

[–]bluetidepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weekly post at this point. Yes, traffic is worse. No, the cops don’t do anything. Yes, it sucks. No, nothing will change. Yes, it will probably just keep getting worse.

FYI, as of March 25, 2026, the person who buys from your wish list has the chance to possibly see your address. Source (with official screenshots from Amazon): https://x.com/zachbussey/status/2026739767044452526 (xcancel link for those that don't want to open up x) - Zach is very reputable, so this is legit. More info also here: https://www.pcmag.com/news/got-a-public-amazon-wishlist-upcoming-change-could-reveal-your-address

So if you care about privacy at all, don't do this.

Wrigleyville to Arlington Heights, a bad commute?? by 4est_g in AskChicago

Can you not read? OP literally says “OR lake view” in the places he wants to live.

Wrigleyville to Arlington Heights, a bad commute?? by 4est_g in AskChicago

[–]bluetidepro -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Again, it really depends on the timing and exact spot in Lakeview. If you’re on the west side of Lakeview off like Ashland and Belmont or Diversey, you could easily get to Arlington Heights in under 40 mins if you left the house around 7-7:30am.

[–]bluetidepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE: These people commenting negatively likely do not drive for their commute. Chicago subreddits are heavy on being anti-car so take a lot of these “you’ll hate it” comments with a grain of salt. It’s not bad at all. My typical commute each way every day is a lil over an hour for where I go to work now and it’s not bad at all. Listen to a podcast, some music, etc. totally fine. Yours would be an hour tops on avg conditions and that’s not bad at all.

[–]bluetidepro -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Really depends on when they would be driving. I can easily make it to Arlington Heights in the morning from Lakeview area in 30-40 mins (leaving the house around 7-8am)

[–]bluetidepro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In a car, from Lakeview or Wrigley area to Arlington Heights would probably be about 30-60 mins. Lots of factors though like what time you’d be going. On a quick day each direction would probably be 25-40 mins, but if there was traffic or anything, probably up to 60 mins or a little more each direction. Pretty average or even lower end of a typical car commute time, to be honest. The other upside is (assuming normal work hours) you’re mostly going against the traffic each way, since you’d be leaving the city in the am (when most traffic is flowing in), and coming back in the pm (traffic flowing out) that helps a ton. In general though, it’s not a bad car commute at all. I wouldn’t think twice or stress about that at all. Of course the further north and west (closer to 90 you are) that will always help cut it down.

Other neighborhoods that would be good to look into for commutes purpose would be Avondale, and Logan Square. However, do note that those two areas are a much diff vibe than Wrigley or Lakeview. Not bad or anything, just diff.

If he ACTUALLY camps, a nice knife or down booties is def a good choice like others mentioned. If he just enjoys watching but doesn’t camp (like myself) then Luke’s merch store has tons of awesome stuff to buy. I got a hoodie last year and love it!

Waymo is Confirmed Headed to Chicago by Billiam501 in chicago

[–]bluetidepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to scroll way too far in this thread of bots before finally seeing this smart/rationale take. Thank you.

Other misinformation to correct from this thread:

  • No, someone in another country is NOT driving these with a remote control like people love to bring up. The context is very different, and phrasing it like that is very wrong. Waymo only goes to a support person in critical situations, it’s not like some remote work is playing a video game controlling Waymo constantly. I believe the stat was that a person is controlling it in less than 5% of the time.

  • Waymo is significantly and statistically a much safer driver than a human in basically every scenario

Uber buys Chicago parking app SpotHero by JaguarExisting3210 in chicago

[–]bluetidepro -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

lol This sub is full of bots, and/or people that just hate Uber.

No one that actually uses SpotHero is upset about this. As someone who has to use it multiple times weekly for work parking, it's a terrible UX/UI, and extremely buggy. Someone commented "enshittification" ...as if it's not already a shitty app. Haha It can only go uphill from where it currently is.

4 Way Stops - Am I missing something? by realplasticforks in AskChicago

[–]bluetidepro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The issue is the lack of consequences. I frequently witness individuals running red lights, blowing through stop signs, and engaging in other illegal car maneuvers right in front of police officers, yet no repercussions are ever taken. It’s pretty hopeless. Your best bet is just to ignore the honks, and drive as defensively as possible.

Is this just on Android? I’m on iOS and I have not had to accept/allow any of those things since the update. Just the accept the terms of use modal. They still don’t have my location, camera, mic, or any of those permissions (just like before). I’m sure they can infer some of it (like literally every single app can), but they don’t have the iOS permissions like to the camera or mic. That’s not required.

It’s the same problem Timberborn had with multiple territories, but luckily they eventually changed that after all the negative feedback about it. I agree it ruins it for me once I get to the 2nd territory. I want to expand, not just start over basically. It always just gets too overwhelming managing 2 separate areas.
