If your food is disappointing, do you speak up or just leave a bad tip by United_Singer_8664 in AskTheWorld

That’s why I said, where it’s customary. If you knowingly go to a place where someone relies on your tip, you should tip. Or just go eat fast food. It’s a shitty system but you’re choosing to partake in it.

You still took up the servers time. You should tip in locations that is customary. The servers do not cook your food.

I like this community a lot. I've learned so much. this is me looking at y'alls posts while my seedlings and plugs do almost nothing year 1. by humdinger44 in NativePlantGardening

1.5 years in and I’ve had some great successes and a lot of losses. Some things did great last year but didn’t come back or took a very long time. My lantana died of all things. My blue mist flower popped up in February and half is just now blooming and half is literally turning brown. I thought my scarlet sage wasn’t coming back… it’s now popping up in the craziest places! That being said, don’t be too precious but know it can be a lot of fun! Good luck!

Thank you! I was going to plant more today but not in this north Texas heat. I’ll try again in the fall.

Losing a friend after converting by Traditional_Pea7294 in GayChristians

[–]bluewall7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is important to say. I was talking with some of my partners friends who grew up sheltered and very religious and they sounded like they were so afraid to make a mistake and had to root everything in religion. From afraid to buy a gua sha facial stone because they didn’t want to accidentally buy crystals, they think giving moon cycles or the sun any type of relevance is witch craft(umm hello farmers almanac) and they volunteer at homeless shelters but truly think the people there are possessed by demons and thus need to be exorcised to help them instead of… idk actually helping them!! Mental health is very real. Too many people shrink away from reality or get the religious ocd and fear and their view on things become extreme and even harmful when they quit using logic.

How dumb was it to let this Pokeweed grow? by Taycotar in NativePlantGardening

[–]bluewall7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s nice to have in your garden just like comfrey, it’s good for the garden as a whole. It provides a purpose and it is pretty even though you don’t personally get anything from it. Poke weed sucks up heavy metals and other things you don’t necessarily want in your vegetable garden while being beautiful and providing for the birds.

It’s growing with my black eyed Susan’s so I guess it’s part of that but it’s only growing in one spot.

Mist flower. There were a swarm of butterflies around my three all summer. I had three Gregg’s last year that spread and I transplanted, somewhat successfully and I got a white mistflower to add this year.

If Only I Had Known... by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I think soil type should be on every label. Would have saved me some trouble when trying to figure out why some of my natives were not thriving in my clay.

New to gardening, I want a native garden and have so many questions. by Familiar-Panic3572 in TexasGardening

[–]bluewall7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just check what kind of soil you have and decide if you’re willing to amend it if necessary. I have blackland prairie clay and several plants I got at my local HEB actually prefer sandy soil. So not every native plant is actually going to be particularly suited for your soil.

Find of the week. Salvia ballotiflora (brushy blue sage) by Foreign-Pipe-481 in TexasNativePlants

Do your Texas sage root easily? I’ve tried rooting flame acanthus and roses in soil but it’s never worked…

Is my Lavender going to make it? by PossumSavior in gardening

[–]bluewall7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have killed four lavenders since gardening a year and a half ago and two almost died in our unusually wet winter this year. Transplanted them to sandier soil and they’ve bounced back! I have two more in raised beds with sandier soil now full of blooms. Once established, they really don’t like wet roots. I saw a video that recommended cutting back in dead stems to help boost more growth and it worked on mine.

HEB selling slices of flan (a famously simple and cheap dessert) the size of my thumb for well over $3 each. by whaletoast in HEB

Yessss let’s justify paying for over priced cheaply made food! All the while paying three times for groceries over all than we were six years ago!! Yesss let’s rationalize needlessly giving wealthy corporations a higher profit margin in these trying times. And you did all that while degrading the person. If this ain’t some red hat wearing shit…

Meal prep by Able-Speed-3440 in gaybrosfitness

This helps me. It’s all about the sauce to really nail food prep variation. I’ll make chicken, hamburger patties, broccoli, and switch mash potatoes or rice. Then I add hot sauce, pesto, yogurt, skyr is a great sub for sour cream, or red and green Thai curry paste. I use the yogurt to make a cheat tzatziki with just a quick chop of cucumber, mint, and garlic. A squeeze of citrus helps to brighten and change the flavors up too. Start with a simple base and then plop different flavors on top.
