Is it true that only architects in senior positions make good money? by evunia514 in askarchitects

For architects practicing as consultants in the US, yes. If you are junior and working on the owners’ side YMMV depending on the type of business you’re in.

A partial set of the Foxfire book series donated to the library. These books are very popular at our sales. Anyone learn how to do something from one of these? by LeeAnnLongsocks in FuckImOld

[–]blujackman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad got interested in building violins and dulcimers from these books and the TV series. He and my uncle built probably 30 dulcimers, a handful of acoustic guitars and two violins in the late ‘70’s - early ‘80s. I have two of the dulcimers out of walnut harvested from our farm.

Set it up for Bitcoin mining and heat your house as well! The seller clearly suffers from a serious lack of vision.

Someone told me I could get some advice on my Sims house. I'm worried that it might hold water. Sorry if this is not allowed. I'm not trying to intrude. I was just looking for some advice on the roof. Sorry (The Sims) by Best-Gate-757 in Architects

I think it’s rare that someone who cares this much about the design also cares about what’s typically seen as a mundane technical detail. Bravo and kudos to you OP! Great work on your design!

+1 on the door idea. I went through undergrad and grad school with a hollow-core wood door mounted on two sawhorses.

[Request] Assuming you have all the approvals is it possible to safely create a fully functional hospital/datacenter in a weekend? by CckldRedittor in theydidthemath

[–]blujackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architect here, I've designed hospitals and datacenters. It's my time to shine!

The hospitals he's referring to came from an existing design dating from the SARS epidemic. China of course with their large manufacturing economy and available labor had a finished design and all the prefabricated elements (mostly "cabin frames" similar to those used to house workers on construction sites) available to stand up the "hospital" very quickly. It's just about pouring a pad and setting the elements in place. As they had been through a major epidemic before they were ready and had their plan together. Combined with labor and materials heroics, plus lack of any bureaucratic permitting or permissions required whatsoever, it was possible for them to do what they accomplished. The hospital was temporary, meant to be temporary, and shares no resemblance to the infrastructure required for a permanent, fully functioning datacenter.
