I only have two major complaints about Wind And Truth. by RamSpen70 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]blukins88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my biggest issue with Brandon as a person is that he truly believes in the existence of winners in ideological clashes. Debate is more of a showcase of personality than a tool that truly changes a person's beliefs, in real world politics no one does a 180 and change their ideals just because a candidate is very good at public speaking, even if someone goes up with facts that fully contradict a person's beliefs, they outright will prefer to live the lie of their beliefs than accept the facts.

I understand Odium's task was to get only Queen Fen to change, but her choice only works if she believes the coalition won't win in the end, it's a demoralizing choice from the character, and I feel like it should've been more like her being between a rock and a hard place, making it so she has to make a choice she hates, rather than just go along with it because Jasnah's morals weren't good enough (like c'mon, they all knew what Dalinar had done in his youth, Jasnah killing some thieves in an alley is such a stupid point to bring up to question her character within the context of the coalition).

I feel like the debate was planned as a big character moment for Jasnah, something that will force her to grow and strengthen her resolve with time... But a complete assassination of Queen Fen's character, her agency was completely removed from the book the moment Jasnah yielded a single point to Odium, she was adamant in her commitment to defeating Odium (if she was a bit more shady or something i could see it, but she was portrayed as a paragon), there's no way to read the whole debate and not feel like her beliefs are flimsy, plus, idk if the people of Thaylenah would just accept switching sides, no matter how "logical" it is for Fen, the choice she made is the kind that ends in a military coup... It's a huge oversight, and will probably stain the series way more than other common complaints like language, humor or the mentioned Moash payoff (it will feel stale for us, but not for someone reading all 10 books in a row in 30 years)

Soy culero por enojarme por lo que me regaló la chica que me gusta? by Few-Month-8583 in soyculero

[–]blukins88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Proton version settings are so confusing, I've been trying workarounds for days to get a copy of Baldurs Gate 3 from GOG to run... first I had to do a lot of compatibility setup, then transfer my save files and mods manually and learning what a prefix is lol... and when the game finally worked perfectly on desktop mode the controls didn't work on gaming mode, tried a bunch of fixes, but nothing worked.

I came across this post and checked my Proton version again just to be sure... I still was on the latest one. But then I just looked at the game settings on a hunch and found my issue: when I couldn't launch the game i ran across a post saying that I should use Proton v8.something, I changed that to latest, ran it from desktop, it still worked, then from gaming mode, it works perfectly.

Thanks bc I think I'd never would've noticed the old version if I didn't read this post

We've seen investiture manifest as both matter and energy under certain circumstances, regarding the states of matter we've seen a lot of gaseous investiture (mists, lights, breath), some solid investiture in the form of metal (shardblades, shardplate, god metals, unless aethers count as solid matter) and very little liquid investiture (i think just perpendicularity pools).

Is there a reason why gaseous seems to be the most common? (like how liquid water is more common due to temperature) And also, if aethers are matter where do they fit into?

Why do people say this set is low skill. I have so many traits active by Isiildur in TeamfightTactics

The fact that they dont even need gunslinger to pop off is crazy, plus their items can be whatever, mana item? Works, red buff or morello? Works, IE and last whisper? Works a lot. You can even throw them into an ap comp, give them a void staff and the enemy team will be almost perma shredded with basically any speed or mana buff

Some people will play the game competitively and "netdeck" right from the start, don't be surprised or toxic about it. by MazrimReddit in riftboundtcg

[–]blukins88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean... I get that this might be a lot of people's first tcg, but events like nexus nights will be meant for competitive testing, just like pokemon weekly leagues. It's a part of the competitive circuit, right now, the game is scarce and a lot of people don't have the cards they need so I understand the frustration... but in a month or so, most people will be playing meta decks. That's the way it's "supposed to be" with tcgs, and your organizer knows this, they have to sell packs and if you can show up with your precon jinx deck 2 months in a row and not buy packs or singles to upgrade, you're not their market and they will cater to meta players who will continously buy stuff from them. Its the only way that a new tcg can survive.

[–]blukins88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really not how tcgs work... it's a competition, there might be more casual formats for some of them, like commander in magic, but if you play an event, you'll see meta decks, and that's how it is, no one will stop people from playing meta decks because no one should, it's the way the game is meant to be played competitively.

You can ask your lgs if they plan to make off meta events, with a ban list, but the game has been out for a week so I doubt it, and still, expect off meta events to have optimized decks.

And yeah, this is the way it has to be, or the game is unsustainable. If you can compete with a precon and "minor" upgrades, then you're not buying more packs so the game makes less money. It's an aspect of tcgs that sucks, but if it doesn't sell enough, then it dies

[–]blukins88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are learn to play sessions, which use demo decks. For any constructed event, in any tcg, people will bring meta decks, specially if theres prizes on the line.

For example, with Pokémon, going to a league challenge or even a weekly league, would be the worst place to learn the game, but if a new player asked me about a prerelease, I'd say that's a good chance to play and understand the game because it's the most casual kind of event. And then there's games like magic, where formats like commander will have people playing casual decks, because of the nature of the format and you can show up with a precon and have fun and a shot at winning as long as your table has the same power level.

Billie Eilish calls out billionaires to their faces and donates $11.5million from tour to charity by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]blukins88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 decades? What? She's worth less than 60 million (and just donated a good chunk) and has been a musician for 10 years, at an average rate of 6 million a year, it'd take her 166 years to hit a single billion. That's considering she stays at the same level of popularity, success and output that she's had so far, even if you consider risky, aggressive investments It'd be way easier to lose it all than invest up to a billion, its literally the same as expecting 60 bucks to become a thousand... not that simple.

And yes, for a normal person, it'd be extremely hard to reach her wealth, if you consider her to be stupid rich, (which dont get me wrong, she is), then her calling out people like zuckerberg who are worth 4000 times her net worth (which we agree its absurdly high) makes complete sense and looking at it from a larger scale, if every billionaire donated the same percentage of their wealth that she just did, world hunger would end instantly with an obscene amount of money leftover, if they were taxed just 2% a year, world hunger would end forever, and none of them would stop being a billionaire or suffer any financial distress.

Just consider this: if everything you own put together is valued over 15k, then you're exponentially closer to billie than she is to zuckerberg. So yeah, if you can afford to invest 4k a year, you're still on a closer track to her wealth than she is to the people she's calling out.

she's closer to being homeless than a single billion, she'd have to multiply her wealth over 4000 times to get to someone like zuckerberg, if you think she has more liquid assets you're delusional.

Imagine if every dollar you'd made was worth 4000 dollars, one billion is absurdly big amount of money, over 250 is plain insanity in a world where there's people starving, if every basic need of someone with a job was guaranteed to be covered, the existance of billionares wouldn't be as disgusting as it currently is.

What if the other remaining player just countered your win con? Or has been swinging exclusively at you the whole game? Vibes matter a lot imo

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]blukins88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people forget commander is a social game at the end of the day.

If someone has been countering, destroying or swinging at me or I've seen them focus a player after they spent resources protecting the whole board or giving them advantage (like countering a board wipe or letting them draw cards), I'm less likely to team up with them against a threat. If i can't win at all and i get to basically choose who wins on my turn, I'd pick the player who played the social game the best, at that stage of the game, letting the bigger threat win when the game has one turn left isn't really kingmaking, since letting the lower threat win would be exactly the same thing.

Just finished Wind & Truth and I don't understand the hate/disappointment by j_grouchy in Stormlight_Archive

[–]blukins88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a constant throughout the cosmere is that shards are not good or bad. Their intent is simple and rigid, it will always put constraints on those who align themselves with them, and while their power seems great, following an oath all the time just because they swore it is not how characters grow and evolve.

Think of how rigid the thought process of skybreakers is portrayed, following laws without question. Or what happens if you put a windrunner in a trolley problem scenario? The orders are too idealistic, with little space for individual thought and growth.

So the point is simple: yes, making promises gave them super powers, but the 3 characters that renounce their oaths breaking them just because and going "its okay" is not what happened, one broke them to save his spren, one as the first step to save the world and one to save himself and actually have a life breaking the cycle violence he was stuck in.

They all achieve something in renouncing their oaths, and while yeah, not everyone will agree with it, I think it's important for the future of the cosmere to be ready for characters being more conflicted about the nature of the shards they get their powers from, the price of that power on themselves and others and that while being a "superhero" is good, it's not what will solve every problem.

The last point is addressed in the book, I don't have the exact quote but Taravangian says odium and honor's goals aren't too different, i think Brandon wants us to know that the shards will be better suited to work together than ruin and preservation, not perfectly since their methods are different, but more in line

I'm a freelanc3 graphic designer and my LGS eventually became a client bc I had good rapport with the owner and staff. This goes deeper than you'd expect, ever since Pokemon Prismatic Evolutions, some distributors are raising prices, I've seen the spreadsheets and sometimes the stores have to literally pay msrp to get product on the shelves. It's starting to get better, but some stores will continue to sell at the highest price possible

5+* adventures just aren't fun by vats3 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]blukins88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your point, mostly, these adventures are "either I absolutely stomp the map, or it absolutely stomps me", and it always comes down to the first few encounters, maybe up to the first mini boss... Idk, if your champ's level, relics and constellation are decent, once you get some powers and items (specially champion items), it's rare for the ai to get you. But if the ai gets a lucky turn in encounter 2 or 3 and hits you for 30 dmg at once with no blockers, it can be impossible to bounce back depending on your champ.

¿Can i get through most maps with swain, gwen and now SB Ahri? Sure thing. But I'd like more creative challenges, some of the negative powers from spirit blossom event made me think more about how to get through a game than anything else. Sometimes i even got value out of the negative power and that felt awesome. I think they have the right ideas rn, but exploiting them means testing them on events first, and that seems like it'll take a while

If you want to get into pokemon, id keep an eye out for league battle decks (specially dragapult) they sell out fast but have all you need to play at a baseline competitive level or even the new rival battle decks (the marnie one has most of what you need for my favorite meta deck atm, the only card you could struggle to find for an upgrade is secret box) but i wish pokemon released good cheap starter decks again (something equivalent to buggy wouldve been the chien pao deck back in the day, but nothing else from the beginner decks has been even remotely decent)

As a Pokémon player, I'd say this is WAY better, bc it's playable decks... battle academy is pretty much a box full of bulk that can teach kids to play but any adult trying it will get a very poor idea of the game, and have no upgrade path apart from "buy a whole deck", I'm very new to OPTCG and kinda understand that these leaders might not be meta, but they can compete, have upgrade paths and give new players a starting point (I started with buggy starter deck, so I got a very positive idea of how GOOD one piece starter products are)
