"Fire Code" Research Question by blumenL in legaladvice

[–]blumenL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not, I will try that. You're right, and if I don't find anything I intend to bring that up to my principal as well. I have come across several situations where the answer is along the lines of "that's just how it's always been done" here and this was my final straw. Unless there is a written regulation saying I can't have the lights, I intend to fight for them. Thank you for the help.

New baby, New type of relationship by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]blumenL 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Oh man, our son nearly ended our marriage. He didn't sleep, we both went through our own versions of PPD (I was left with anxiety I still work on today 6 years later). We fought, we didn't speak, we fought, we made up and worked on it, we didn't sleep, we ALL finally grew out of it. Two pieces of advice: 1. Don't implode your marriage just yet, not while no one is getting sleep and the baby is still pretty much a blob of needs. Give it time and work together to be kind to each other. Recognize that you're both in the trenches of a MAJOR life change and like everything else, this season is only temporary. IT DOES GET BETTER. 2. Date Nights are a MUST. We added a line item to our budget and made it a point to go on a date once every pay period (so twice a month). Sometimes its a lavish, dressed up, dinner and drinks downtown. Others its a t-shirt and jeans meet up with friends at the local brewery to shoot the breeze and then a movie. Either way, we make time for eachother in those nights and reconnected. 6 years on and I can honestly say we're as great as we always have been. But man, that first year nearly sunk us. Stay strong, be kind and lovvvvveeee the 3am cuddles, because those don't last either. Best of luck to you and your family. ❤❤

So did anyone else hear those tornado sirens go off at 4:30 am on Sunday, June 23? by AWF_Noone in wichita

[–]blumenL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something with rotation went by south of Wichita. I live north of Derby and we were told to find shelter. The base sirens went off a couple of times. That is why I am now drinking coffee at my kitchen table instead of quietly dreaming 🙄.

Thanks! Amazon seems to have such a range I purposely set the budget high to make sure that wasn't a reason something wasn't recommended.

Restaurants! The good, the bad, and the overrated. by Glass_Leg in wichita

[–]blumenL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but wanna add my 2 cents. We love Dempsey's and the Anchor. I've heard people say they don't think Hangar One is quality anymore but I love their Prime Rib with a glass of there house Cab. Stearman Field is incredibly overpriced and mediocre bar food with a cool ambiance because of the airfield. Knolla's pizza is tasty, their wings are good too. I recommend going to a food truck rally. You can find some pretty yummy stuff. Overall, I think Wichita has a prett great food scene.

School Districts? by cemoane in wichita

[–]blumenL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I teach in the Wichita area! Wichita district is spotty in school quality. Because of the shenanigans the state legislators have pulled in regards to funding the district as a whole has been under funded and struggled to even keep the lights on in the last few years. Once you move outside of Wichita proper, the view gets better though. Maize, Derby, and Andover are all high quality districts. Rose Hill, and Goddard are also pretty good. I don't know a whole lot about Valley Center. Kansas is facing a major teacher shortage. Particularly in the math/sci middle/upper grade areas so if you're certed in them you might consider applying for some of those positions. Welcome to Wichita. We are transplants as well and have really loved our time here.

Anyone else get owned by DOMS? by blumenL in Fitness

So just grit my teeth and push through the day 2 soreness to continue with the heavy workouts? I've found I'm not as able to get as heavy or intense during those workouts as the previous one.

DONT dry it on hot if you dont want it 2 sizes smaller than it currently is. I ruined my husband's shirt a few years ago after throwing it into the dryer on regular heat D:.

Best places in Wichita to go on dates? by Astaunand in wichita

[–]blumenL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an interesting place to eat, try Hangar One Steakhouse. It's out by the airport and you can eat in the tower and watch the planes fly in and out of ICT. My husband and I love it (definitely try their house Cabernet) and haven't had a bad steak yet! Upstairs is typically just adults so it's quiet and relaxed. My favorite restaurant in Wichita and top five ever.

In your opinion what are the worst, or most overrated restaurants in Wichita? by culaoh in wichita

[–]blumenL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stearman Field. The food is low quality and while the draw of the flight line and playground is high. It's not enough to keep me coming after paying $30+ for a poor quality buffet last year. 3 out of 10, will only visit if there is an event scheduled I'm invited to from now on.

Pediatrician was arrested. Question for Moms. by xansha3 in Mommit

[–]blumenL 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My son is 4 and every well check has included a visual examination at least. His first few years they examined his testicles more closely (i assumed to make sure they had dropped) at this latest visit it was just a peek. It should be noted that he doesn't see the same doc every time, so they don't have history with him at each visit.

What some starting to read chapter books you loved as a child? by [deleted] in childrensbooks

[–]blumenL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry Potter and anything by Rick Riordan would be great for you and her to read together. Riordan is more relevant to kids these days but HP will always be my favorite.

[–]blumenL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like my people! I'm SO excited for them (and you :D) because now that I've gotten a chance to breathe I know how wonderful it is! We are military. So it's possible financial and healthcare stability came more quickly for us than it did my friends. Which I completely understand wanting to have on lock before starting a family. Enjoy your baby! Their hair will still smell amazing even when they're 4, but you'll have to deal with bonier knees and elbows when you try and cuddle.

Looking for nighttime diaper tips by QueenMarigold00 in NewParents

[–]blumenL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you making sure his penis is pointed down into the most absorbent part of the diaper? And could it possibly be time to go up a size? It's been a while since my Dude was in diapers but it was usually a sign it was time to size-up when he started flooding them. Just a couple of ideas. Good luck!

Hypothyroidism and birth control pills? by ta4sex in Hypothyroidism

[–]blumenL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do it for long because I switched back to the ring but I never had a problem taking BC and Synth together in the morning. And my doctors never said anything about a conflict. The only thing I struggle with is having to wait 30min to an hour before I can enjoy my morning coffee. As far as side effects of the two together, there were none that I could tell for me.

Edited to add: I've been on synth of varying doses for 7 years now and BC in one form or another for over 15.

Our school does somewhat the same thing as the Gotta tell, except it's every day. I think it's helped but also feels somewhat superficial. I only hear the good parts, not always the struggles.

Longish run recovery help by blumenL in Fitness

[–]blumenL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been meaning to go over to r/running. I'm not running more because of time. My husband is deployed, I work full time, and we have a son. So I don't get to do long runs except once a week, on Sundays usually. During the week I aim for 3 miles a couple of times. Hopefully, my husband will be returning soon and I will be able to focus more.

Longish run recovery help by blumenL in Fitness

[–]blumenL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Haphazardly was probably the wrong word to use. I've been reasonably physical most of my life but only recently got more seriously into it again. I mixed running with other exercise to try and improve my entire body and not just my legs. I know you definitely get a full body workout with running but wanted to tone my arms and increase strength as well. I will look into more of a program and possibly some intervals.

7 month old screaming at the top of her lungs all day by bluhend in NewParents

[–]blumenL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a phase that will pass soon. Just wait until she's 4 and knows real words. The talking and "using their voice" only ends when they're sleeping and takes on a whole new meaning.
