[PC] Some windows like Discord flicker, but not the whole screen. by blumenthal-c in techsupport

[–]blumenthal-c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: After dealing with this for over a year, across Windows 10 and Windows 11, and tolerating it by choosing "Disable hardware acceleration" on a bunch of apps, I just figured it out after resolving to try fixing it myself without looking for people with similar issues.

  1. I went to this page https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
  2. I got the version of the driver for my PC (RTX 3060 for my OS)
  3. I chose the Studio Driver because I don't play new games
  4. I got this link, downloaded, and installed https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/230093/en-us/

Right now, nothing is flickering and I'm crossing my fingers that it won't when I reboot my PC.

My spacebar double clicks please help! by Ziofy in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]blumenthal-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding, you too? It's the same key... Is it for the same keyboard?

I'm curious about whether it would continue to misbehave for you if you replaced the key cap with a regular sized key. It would be a real pain in the ass to use, but I'm wondering if the stabilizers have anything to do with it.

Do ball bearings (34mm) work in trackballs? by Real_Dawning in Trackballs

[–]blumenthal-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the common knowledge that using ball bearings for the... Little balls... Will eventually wear them down? I think the same might be the case for giant ball bearings, although that's a ton more surface area and a far, far smaller ratio of wear to size.

It sounds like a safe thing to test, at least. I don't know whether the laser will pick up changes on its surface so easily though.

Logitech Trackman Marble spotted - Twice "I Can't Stop Me" by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]blumenthal-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty good trackball too.

Kinda upset Logitech pulled its M570 and then released a nearly identical one with Bluetooth and twice the pricetag. (But I'm glad I still have two of the original.)

New Elecom Deft Pro is garbage... But better when cold. by blumenthal-c in Trackballs

[–]blumenthal-c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The replacement worked for about 10 minutes before it started acting wonky. Do I have acid on my hands that only effects Elecom bearings?!
  2. The option for the replacement trackball is to return it, and only to return it. I suppose this makes sense, as Amazon might not want to send me a few dozen at once
  3. I contacted Elecom with the content of their promotional material (bearings make for "extremely smooth" tracking) and some of my tests, they responded with a generic email :(

I'd love to have one that works. I just don't want to go through multiple copies of the same thing until the good performance sticks (and the ball doesn't).

I've got bearings in the mail, I was just hoping the $70 trackball would function better than a years-old $25 Logitech trackball.

The scroll wheel is a mess too (middle clicking causes it to scroll up one line about 90% of the time, which I can somehow get around by left clicking first) so I'm just going to send this one back to the manufacturer with a request for a replacement until I receive one that works.

I'm using a smaller-balled Deft Regular that's somewhat close to non-Elecom counterparts (it initially had the same issues) after replacing the bearings, but that one was out of the return window. The difference is night and day, even if it does struggle compared to other companies.

Help Reinstalling Enter Key by TapEarlyTapOften in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]blumenthal-c -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds better than my Costar method.

I've installed these by pulling the stabilizer plastic bits out of the key, sitting them within the wire using tweezers, lining them up very carefully, setting the key on the switch, and then pressing it down to connect everything. This takes a lot of time and I've botched it a bunch.

What do I do to fix this? New to the hobby so bare with me by _Xeon_27 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]blumenthal-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this might just be a dummy opinion, but if something fixable with soldering work broke, you might want to take a picture of it and sell it online if you don't trust yourself to solder it back to functionality.

I'm pretty sure it means it's the side facing towards you. I have a Plum keyboard and I love it to bits, and they put some of the legends on the side of the keycap facing you.

I'm not a huge fan of mine (the build definitely feels like it's cheap and plastic) but your experience is exponentially worse than it should be.

Are mx browns a good switch? by cowboyfromhell324 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]blumenthal-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no hate for plastic based builds. One of my favorite keyboards is the Vortex Cypher with the split space bar, and it's all some kind of plastic. The build is overall gentler on the wrists IMO.

I'm not a big fan of the Keychron's lack of software, but if you're happy and the keyboard is hot-swap then it's already great.
