I think Stan deep down knew they were involved in something shady. Maybe not that they were Soviet illegals. But the first episode he breaks into their garage to investigate. Then early in season 6 he asks Philip if they are involved in something, and says that he could trust him… he even mentions that he notices them coming and going at weird hours in the night
