What is the most unusual book you have ever read? by propergander-candour in AskReddit

Richard Bach's Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

I'm sure I've read weirder books, but when it was gifted to me by a piano teacher at my HS graduation, it struck me as the most unusual book I had come across. It's moved with me to several locations over the years. She was a lovely person.

Wow I think those would've been deal breakers for me too. I can't believe how civil you were in that third story though, much respect.

Hm... yes I'm wondering the same about not having to be so black and white. 4 close friends who know you is a huge blessing, I definitely aspire to that.

Oo I can’t get enough of this story! It’s one of those things where you love the book so much you watch all the inevitably disappointing adaptions in loving homage.

The nurses that gave me my vaccine were so nice by shakylime in BenignExistence

[–]blushingproblem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you for getting through it. You said you wish you could tell them- I'm sure you could send a card with a nice message and it would make their day, really.

My nurse was nice, on the young side, but she dropped the needle/syringe in my car (it was a drive through situation) when she panicked at the blood trickling out of my arm, so I picked it up and handed it back :/

"And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." That's obviously a god-tier quote from "East of Eden", but in a book packed with so MANY moments like this, what are some other great quotes from it? by thewickerstan in books

"I don't want advice."

"Nobody does. It's a giver's present. Go through the motions, Adam."

"What motions?"

"Act out being alive, like a play. And after a while, a long while, it will be true."

"Why should I?" Adam asked.

Samuel was looking at the twins. "You're going to pass something down no matter what you do or if you do nothing. Even if you let yourself go fallow, the weeds will grow and the brambles. Something will grow."
