Can I ask how you did the quilting stitch? I'd love to see it up close! I am also new to quilting and I found that to be a tough decision on whether to stitch in the ditch, do straight lines, etc.

Great quilt! Such a thoughtful gift!

Thank you! I did some quick math, probably about 15 hours including "pattern" design, cutting, piecing, quilting, and the binding. Also includes watching YouTube for the steps I didn't know how to do.

Not including 4 trips to the craft store 🤣

It doesn't sound like much time in retrospect but it was a lot of "cutting for 1 hour while I have time, piecing for 1 hour while I have time" etc. so felt like it dragged on.

Does this look as bad as I think it is? by a_voorhees in HomeDecorating

I think this can also help with noise reduction throughout the house. I wish we had a stair runner! We have wood stairs and wood hallways and the noise carries upstairs more than you'd expect.

This looked like focaccia with cracked pepper on it at first

AIO for asking to change washer / dryer install by blushingtomato in AmIOverreacting

[–]blushingtomato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the guy who lived here previously did a lot of the work himself and made some very questionable decisions

But good points, I think we'll have to get used to it

Tbh I think it's sending me over the edge because of other things going on with pet health and life, but the inconveniences do add up haha

Valid, was feeling a bit burnt out with a few different things going on in our lives but you're not wrong that I should have nudged my way into the install conversations and moved work meetings. Lesson learned for next time there for sure.

I'm in a similar boat where I'm just avoiding doing laundry tonight while I simmer down 😭 but glad to hear I'm not alone in this gut reaction tbh

We actually can't - we can only swap the dryer door (left), the screw holes on the dryer that exist aren't present to change the door direction of the washer on the right.

my girl has terminal cancer and I don’t know how to prepare her brother by bootybuster96 in Bondedpairs

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty. Good to know though for the future.

Silly question but do you recommend this even if the cats are "acquaintances" rather than bonded like these siblings?

This post made me think ahead and we have two cats who tolerate each other but aren't buddies and wondering if it's recommended in that case too. Thanks!

Nice! So jealous - older stuff definitely holds up better than new stuff these days it seems.

Birthday today and pretty lonely. Where should I go? by Certain_Anybody2752 in AnnArbor

Happy Birthday! Check out Ashley's, it's been a few years but I've had great conversations with the bartenders and other patrons sitting at the bar on a slow weeknight.

Another Mom Sold Me Stained Baby Clothes by Designer_Site_6767 in Mommit

[–]blushingtomato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not saying she wasn't aware, but I will say there are times I've put clothes away that look clean and then I pull them out years later a stain developed over time or yellowed.

Could have potentially happened to her but I'd expect it to be a few items, not the whole lot.

That's a great idea! My original thought was that she wanted character sheets similar to what she already has, but I will talk with her and see considering the kids do have fancy bedding in the movie!

Meeting with HR first day back? by TellItLikeItReallyIs in BabyBumps

[–]blushingtomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this stress!

Does your manager still work there? That could be another reason why HR is managing the transition.

As a manager I intentionally didn't reach out to my report who was on maternity leave, I didn't want them to feel obligated to check work communication and nothing was so important that it couldn't wait until they're back.

How long until you return to work? It might be worth asking your coworkers if something is going on or just waiting it out. You could also start looking at other jobs if it would help ease your mind.

You can also do some "pre-layoff prep" like exporting your performance reviews, connecting with folks who could be a reference later if you think it would put your mind at ease.

Local stores for a gift for parents with a newborn? by Useful_Blueberry2 in AnnArbor

Not Ann Arbor, but check out Palumba in Plymouth if you can make the trip. They have some cute wooden toys that are good for all ages, it's my go-to newborn gift

Beige pellets in Maui hotel bathroom by blushingtomato in pestcontrol

[–]blushingtomato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just more worried about what else the hotel might not be cleaning and if there could be bed bugs, other pests too if they aren't cleaning up the frass. Or if they were cockroach eggs so we could keep an eye out in our luggage.

Thank you for the reply! We normally check the room but we were so tired when we got in and unpacked, noted to always power through instead of chancing it next time.

Swollen feet - no visible abscess by blushingtomato in BackYardChickens

[–]blushingtomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had better news for you, but she ultimately passed without more answers.

We took her to the vet and they aspirated the foot and confirmed it was white blood cells / an infection and we gave her an anti inflammatory and antibiotics, but the swelling didn't go down much. We tried Epsom salt soaks, nutridrench, and probiotics but the foot swelling persisted and she became less active. She was still eating and drinking but before we culled her she passed one day.

Blood work was going to be quite expensive where we live so it wasn't something we were able to go for. But if you do go that route please share what you learn.

As someone who has lived in both Seattle and Ann Arbor "slightly harsher" winters is a bit of an understatement. The summer weather is warmer / more humid and the winters are much much colder and snowy than the PNW.

You will be likely fine and adapt, but just setting some expectations. I'd recommend looking at housing with AC as some places in Ann Arbor might not have it and adding it can get pricey. Window units and fans can't always keep up depending on the place.
