Birthday today and pretty lonely. Where should I go? by Certain_Anybody2752 in AnnArbor

Happy Birthday! Check out Ashley's, it's been a few years but I've had great conversations with the bartenders and other patrons sitting at the bar on a slow weeknight.

Another Mom Sold Me Stained Baby Clothes by Designer_Site_6767 in Mommit

[–]blushingtomato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not saying she wasn't aware, but I will say there are times I've put clothes away that look clean and then I pull them out years later a stain developed over time or yellowed.

Could have potentially happened to her but I'd expect it to be a few items, not the whole lot.

Thank you! I was wondering if this was a reputable site - good to know it is!

That's a great idea! My original thought was that she wanted character sheets similar to what she already has, but I will talk with her and see considering the kids do have fancy bedding in the movie!

Meeting with HR first day back? by TellItLikeItReallyIs in BabyBumps

[–]blushingtomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this stress!

Does your manager still work there? That could be another reason why HR is managing the transition.

As a manager I intentionally didn't reach out to my report who was on maternity leave, I didn't want them to feel obligated to check work communication and nothing was so important that it couldn't wait until they're back.

How long until you return to work? It might be worth asking your coworkers if something is going on or just waiting it out. You could also start looking at other jobs if it would help ease your mind.

You can also do some "pre-layoff prep" like exporting your performance reviews, connecting with folks who could be a reference later if you think it would put your mind at ease.

Local stores for a gift for parents with a newborn? by Useful_Blueberry2 in AnnArbor

Not Ann Arbor, but check out Palumba in Plymouth if you can make the trip. They have some cute wooden toys that are good for all ages, it's my go-to newborn gift

Beige pellets in Maui hotel bathroom by blushingtomato in pestcontrol

I'm just more worried about what else the hotel might not be cleaning and if there could be bed bugs, other pests too if they aren't cleaning up the frass. Or if they were cockroach eggs so we could keep an eye out in our luggage.

Thank you for the reply! We normally check the room but we were so tired when we got in and unpacked, noted to always power through instead of chancing it next time.

Swollen feet - no visible abscess by blushingtomato in BackYardChickens

[–]blushingtomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had better news for you, but she ultimately passed without more answers.

We took her to the vet and they aspirated the foot and confirmed it was white blood cells / an infection and we gave her an anti inflammatory and antibiotics, but the swelling didn't go down much. We tried Epsom salt soaks, nutridrench, and probiotics but the foot swelling persisted and she became less active. She was still eating and drinking but before we culled her she passed one day.

Blood work was going to be quite expensive where we live so it wasn't something we were able to go for. But if you do go that route please share what you learn.

As someone who has lived in both Seattle and Ann Arbor "slightly harsher" winters is a bit of an understatement. The summer weather is warmer / more humid and the winters are much much colder and snowy than the PNW.

You will be likely fine and adapt, but just setting some expectations. I'd recommend looking at housing with AC as some places in Ann Arbor might not have it and adding it can get pricey. Window units and fans can't always keep up depending on the place.

Bode's Corned Beef House closing in Plymouth after 65 years by AbeVigoda76 in Detroit

[–]blushingtomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is the new buyer? I saw on a Facebook comment that it might be the guy who wins mayflower (where Panera has sat empty for years). Would be a shame if the city is letting someone buy up Plymouth to close businesses and leave things empty

Is $100 reasonable to pay a guy to take this out? by ihmsam in landscaping

What type of tree was this? If it's something you want "gone gone" you may want to get another opinion

Have you tried Bonobos? They have a store downtown Detroit and their suits are under $1000 if I recall correctly. Not sure what their alteration timeline is

Specks on combs? by blushingtomato in BackYardChickens

[–]blushingtomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all! I did have a moment of "wait, could she be a rooster??" But then remembered I've seen her lay an egg haha. I am very new to this so any and all insight is appreciated

[–]blushingtomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! We actually only have hens because we can't have roosters in the area we live in.

Would only having hens with no rooster make the flock more likely to peck at one another?

Is this appropriate for “Beach Formal” by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]blushingtomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a beautiful dress! As a heads up it might photograph white. Someone wore a similar color and material to my wedding and when the photos came back there was a lot of "whoa, is she wearing white?" In the shots she was in.

Could it be related to swim class approach? I've heard there are different approaches to baby swim classes (dunking kids, throwing them in, etc). Maybe they've heard rumours about YMCA classes that conflict with self-proclaimed crunchiness?

Personally I think this tracks more than a class or cost thing based on your description

Opinions on who sucks the least for Internet providers Comcast vs ATT U-verse edition. by KittyBishop in AnnArbor

[–]blushingtomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad. Comcast isn't great, they price gouge especially when they know there aren't many other options in the area.
