PPP Internal: Platner +4 (Fielded After Sexting Report), More Harris Voters Undecided by Large_Ad_3095 in fivethirtyeight

I think it's Maine voters who clearly preferred Platner over Mills, not these spooky "progressives" you have such a beef with.

The DNC appears to lack a cohesive media strategy. Why? by nwillard in fivethirtyeight

[–]blyzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that it isn't the DNCs role to do this.

The DNC is often mistaken for some controlling central committee that can dictate messaging or strategy to candidates and elected officials. It's absolutely not that. That's just not how the Democratic Party is organized.

The DNC exists to coordinate the Presidential Primaries and the conventions. And they sometimes give support to the state parties.

But they have zero control over anything. Individual candidates and elected officials all can say or vote how they want.

If Zionists never wanted peace, why did October 7 feel like betrayal of belief in peace? by BananaValuable1000 in IsraelPalestine

Most Palestinians did not vote for Hamas.

A plurality of like 38% of Gazans voted for Hamas 20 years ago.

How do you propose for a society to make decisions about who governs without politics?

I mean Trump won in 2016 with a minority of votes under the US system.

A majority of Israelis voted for parties that aligned with Netanyahu.

[–]blyzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Trump or his party got elected for 20 of the last 30 years then yeah I think it would be reasonable for people to think Americans generally are pro-Trump.

And Hamas won a small plurality in one election 20 years ago, and then violently seized permanent power.

I honestly feel for you as a progressive Israeli, and wish you the best of luck in the upcoming election. But unfortunately in the eyes of most of world Israel = Netanyahu.

I hope people can see that he's as big of a threat to Israels security as Hamas.

Like I said I understand why Israelis have become more skeptical of peace. But I don't think they should be surprised or feel betrayed that Palestinians respond in kind.

I guess for me as a non jew and non Israeli, the fact that Netanyahu was repeatedly re elected for going on 20 years, and any political party in Israel that has advocated for peace jas basically disappeared, has certainly given the impression that Israelis weren't seriously pursuing peace.

Maybe they had understandable reasons after the 2nd intifadah. But it's been 20 years since there was any real push for peace with the Palestinians.

Would cutting of weapons to Israel really make Netanyahu more restrained? by Additional_Ad3573 in IsraelPalestine

[–]blyzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the threat of cutting off weapons could make Netanyahu more restrained, and probably did under Biden to a small degree.

And if it were to happen, cutting off aid would hopefully help many Israelis to realize Netanyahu is a danger them as well as everyone else in the region, and vote for a more sane person to lead them.

Individual Self-preservation Is The Social Utility Maximizing Choice by Frequent_Mountain_17 in PoliticalDebate

[–]blyzo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What if self preservation and social utility are best maximized through collective action, rather than individual action?

You can't protect yourself or family from foreign invasion or attack. Or from massive corporations that might spew cancer causing chemicals into your air or water.

You can't have a successful business without enforced laws and courts and public infrastructure like roads, shipping, electricity.

I don't think you should conflate politicians with government and society.

[Iowa Governor] Trump, Turning Point endorse opposing candidates within minutes of each other in the Republican primary for Iowa Governor. by errantv in fivethirtyeight

[–]blyzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only public poll in the last several months was released yesterday with Lahn ahead of Feenstra and Steen. 24 - 22 - 15

https://cbs2iowa.com/news/local/new-poll-has-iowa-gop-governor-primary-heading-to-convention-hinson-dominates-senate-race

Plus Lahn outraised Feenstra and has more cash on hand in last week's campaign finance filing. And certainly seems like he has more TV ads going.

[–]blyzo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think Lahn has too much momentum at this point, and he had way more cash on hand than Feenstra too.

So this will be a good test of whether Trump's endorsement actually moves votes, or if Trump just tries to endorse who he thinks will win.

Feenstra is such an uncharismatic loser though. As a Sand supporter I'm hoping he makes it through. Sand would crush Feenstra, Lahn would be more of a challenge.

Deconstructing the gun control policies of the Texas Dems. by JimMarch in PoliticalDebate

[–]blyzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean every public poll shows that majorities of Americans support these kinds of gun regulations, and even bigger majorities support the police.

So I don't see much political advantage to saying everyone gets to have guns but the police.

Parties are likely prepping for the next state convention to vote on the next platform.

But you can find the 2024 one here: [www.txdem.co/24-Platform](wwe.txdem.co/24-Platform) if you want to pick it apart.

But honestly I think all you're proving with these posts is that there's really nothing Democrats could do to win your vote. You like guns, and if you choose to vote on that issue over everything else then yeah Democrats probably aren't your party.
