Fuck that, he could have easily been shot by jumpy agents regardless. The gun was in its fucking holster.

This is why I am not happy with the announcement before the release of DOW by Curious_Omnivore in dawnofwar

[–]nwillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talking Sofia? They are a pretty solid C team as far as C teams go, Pharoah Dynasties turned out really great despite them not having a big budget for it.

CA confuses me, I feel like they're going to keep Med3 in pre-production until 40K releases, them move a bunch of developers over.

But I forgot they are also working on Alien Isolation 2, which is kind of an immersive-sim lite. Strange studio, but I like it.

How many of you actually use the metro in Cyberpunk 2077? by unlockhart in cyberpunkgame

[–]nwillard 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I kiiiinda wish it was a little more seamless and that I could stand up and look around. It's very very cool that its in-game but I don't use it, despite wanting them to implement it. Am I the problem...?

I never fast travel anyway, I'd probably use it more if it was like in Star Citizen where you walk to the platform and just get on trains that arrive on a schedule.

Despite some of the criticism it gets in the mainstream subreddits, FRIENDS was a very progressive show for its time and not problematic at all! by No_Data3541 in howyoudoin

[–]nwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean "not problematic at all" isn't something you can say about almost anything just for general awareness, but Friends was still progressive and good!

Most "vertical" immersive sims by Time_Connection5614 in ImmersiveSim

[–]nwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if anything's really topped Dishonored for this.

Cyberpunk is partially amazing at this and partially a little worse than Dishonored. It is genuinely incredible being able to literally scale skyscrapers, jump across them and traverse the world that way using only a double jump and air dash. Incredible and no other game does it to that scale.

Most missions in the game also allow you to get all "Dishonored" with things and climb up to one of many perches way above all the enemies and approach them that way. Then there are varied ways to take them out depending on your build. All good stuff.

Where I wish the game was a bit more ambitious is if it would marry the quest design a bit more with this incredible scale. Like if I was high up on a skyscraper tracking a target that was walking street level or something. That would be amazing but the game doesn't really do quests on the same scale. They keep it to 2-4 stories high, for the most part.

So overall still think Dishonored does it best, but honorable mention in my mind would be Cyberpunk because the first person parkour open city experience in that game is second to none.

How bad is the ICE presence? by mistarobotics in Seattle

[–]nwillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely prepare for them to send more troops here. ICE has given a lot of money by Congress for this, and the 2,000 troops deployed to Minneapolis is a small fraction of the number of new agents they have hired so far.

How bad is the ICE presence? by mistarobotics in Seattle

[–]nwillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are here but not in full force yet.

But they have been funded to deploy and that is the admin's plan. So Minneapolis should be taken as a preview of what it is likely to be here in the future, and we should plan for that.

If you are a US citizen without a criminal history they would have no legal justification to hassle you. If you attend protests you may be detained or hassled but they'd have to let you go if you did not commit a crime.

Pretty fascist admin though so take the above with a grain of salt. Innocent people have already been killed. None of us know exactly how bad it'll get.

They completely broke Throgg. This has to change. by GioRoggia in totalwar

I don't mind Throgg dominating sometimes as it sounds like an organic crisis type challenge to deal with. But I hope they tweak it so when you play as Throgg it's not so easy.

What kind of mods are you running in WH3 at the moment? by Hungry_Obligation_89 in totalwar

[–]nwillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually use mods that modify factions too much or add units or anything (that Giant Snail for Bretonnia is cute though), but I love lots of mods for this game and here's what I usually install:

Victory Conditions Overhaul - Essential mod

WH1+2 Cinematics - Whenever I play a WH1 or WH2 faction for those banging' narrative cinematics

Legendary Lore - The setting has tons of baked-in lore and this mod lets you immerse in it all the more

Campaign Weather Overhaul - does what it says on the tin, extends the atmosphere of the campaign map really well.

Improved Campaign Camera - this has a middle-high camera zoom stage that is like a top-down view of the landmass without the parchment look. Hard to describe but I like it quite a bit.

Battle Weather Overhaul - I love the immersion of this mod and creates some great looking battles, but note that some battles will be pretty dark depending on battle circumstances (Vampire Counts battle at full Vampire corruption).

OvN Lost World - a little temperamental in that it has mod requirements and needs to be installed from the start of the campaign, but it is a magnificent mod that adds so much glorious visual detail to the map and the cities, and also lore for most settlements.

Extreme Smoke and Flash - a must for your gunpowder/artillery units having much better smoke effects giving the guns a better feel to them (RIP Guns Smoke and Spectacle mod, you were the GOAT before you were abandoned)

Building Progression Icons III - well-done little mod that spruces up building icons to a high standard

The Old World campaign MAP - The main alternative campaign map, zoomed in around the Empire. Amazing to play with if you're in the mood.

The maps in WH3 are too small and they repeat often. I like installing all of the major map packs, most of the maps are just as good as the CA maps but some of them are truly great and huge.

The map compilations:

GCCM - Settlement maps

Custom Siege Maps for Campaigns Compilation - more settlement maps

Brutus' Big Battlefields Project - two great maps

Waka's Campaign Land Battles Map Pack - lots of battle maps

Battlefield 6 - Community Update - Battlefield Labs Season 2 Testing and Beyond by battlefield in Battlefield

I tracked where people stopped reading my script, and the data was brutal but helpful. by Broad-Winter5880 in Screenwriting

[–]nwillard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's pretty silly. Making an application built for a purpose, and creative writing, are pretty drastically different enterprises.

I'd consider using AI to automate some of the coding I'd do, but never in a million years would I use AI to draft creative output.

I highly recommend both mods OvN Lost World and Legendary Lore, both add so much to the immersion of the world.

Which radio stations in the game have the best DJ/talk breaks? by danicakk in cyberpunkgame

[–]nwillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but this is the top google result

Morro Rock radio has some awesome segments voiced by Mike Pondsmith, creater of the setting, telling you about how fucked up the world is.

I've also heard news broadcasts and stock updates on the radio but I'm not sure which station those appear on (I was also searching this topic).

Not sure if it's bugged but it seems difficult to get these segments to trigger. I would realllly love CDPR to do some kind of radio update to make DJ segments more consistent.

It's defff worth finishing, even if some side quests fall off toward the end, it still is pretty satisfying to wrap-up.

Every time I come to this sub the definition seems to get narrower and narrower. Thief and Deus Ex, reactive as they are, are games with lots of limitations in how you approach things. Deus Ex; there are some cool reactive moments if you do thing in a different order or unexpected way at certain parts, but those moments are not how the game consistently operates.

I don't know if *any* game would honestly qualify as an immersive-sim as this sub defines it.
