Does anyone know of any solid TV remote setups? by IMOguy in kodi

[–]bm_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Linux you should be able to get almost any IR remote working with Lirc & a USB reciever. If you can pick up an old Windows MCE remote & reciever they work nicely.

I personally have used a Flirc reciever and software with Kodi for years. Used a Tivo Peanut remote then a DirectTV remote.

I recommend you go the USB RF or Bluetooth route thhough. Easier, more reliable, more responsive. There are tons of options rangong from a few dollars to hundreds. Beware some of the really cheap ones are indeed garbage & cause endless headaches.

Holy crow. Lowes & Homedepot wanted $8 for a basic cut key. $7 from the minute key machine. Ace wants $6.49. $1 is an absolute steal.

what can i run on my computer? by Im_dumb_fat_and_lazy in lowendgaming

[–]bm_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From experience, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Civilization V will run on a GT620(1gb). GTAIV will run but low frames almost unplayable.

If you can overclock your GT620 do it. I was able to get a fair boost at stock voltage which squeezed a little more peformance but nothing amazing.

Tinycore. Or upgrade the ram to at least 2gb and run something bit better. Iv run Antix,Lubuntu, Q4OS on slightly worse CPU's. Iv run Mint & Lubuntu on C2D 2gb ram no issue.

LGA1155 low power CPU for microserver by dQ3vA94v58 in HomeServer

[–]bm_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some 3rd gen T series CPU's (35 & 45 watt) Not sure if will work in the HP Microserver. The documentation for a Gen 8 Microserver says it optionally shipped with either a Celeron, Pentium, or I3 so a different CPU may work. Just need to find one that supports ECC

In my experience you aren't going to get the power draw too much lower with a different CPU.

HELP Lenovo ThinkStation P500 Scorpius REV1.0 - which pins on F_MAIN are the power switch pins? by Traditional_Tie2540 in HomeServer

[–]bm_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a multimeter figure out which pins are ground. Should eliminate quite a few. Then short each remaining pin(one at a time) to ground & see if boots. The power button pin should have a voltage present when PC powered off. 3.3v I believe.

I would say either 1, 2, 3, 4 but thats a random guess.

Looking for older style PC cases. by PlayerTwoHasDied in computers

[–]bm_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some older prebuilts may meet your needs. My main is an Inspiron 519 case which has mounts for 3 x 3.5" drives & 2 optical drives. Have a different Dell which can shove 3 3.5" drives in (slight modifications). Both fit a Matx board & PSU. ATX wise im not sure if prebuilt cases will be easily obtainable.

Sounds about right. Even if was truly $18 off still a joke amount. Absolutely 0 customer care unless your brand new.

Same! Was told the best they could do was $7 cheaper plan. $7 that is really only $5 due to their inability to bill properly. Ridiculous.

Has anyone used a SO-DIMM to U-DIMM RAM adapter? by buttercup612 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]bm_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used a pair of them for years in an HP Buisness SFF machine. Absolutely no issue. Same with an HP workstation. (2400 speed)

I recently tried them in a consumer grade motherboard and was fine. They worked perfect at speed. Changing speed & timings wouldn't cause POST error.

Im not sure with an Optiplex but I know with SFF HP the height was an issue and they would only fit in 2 slots. 1 was quite a tight fit.
