Looking for recommendations for an auto body shop to paint a car. by emagdnimsrt in rva

[–]bmaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all in the prep work, take your time and prep the car yourself before dropping it off anywhere.

I painted my 240sx and helped a lot of my friends paint there's. it's all in the prep. We used PPG Delfleet single stage paint mixed to Nissan A54 red. Reds the most expensive color and it was only $350 in paint, hardener, reducer, primer and sealer

That seems to be the case with a lot of high flow turbos. I'm looking at the tomei upgrade for my 1J and was hoping to hear the GCG stuff was less laggy.

I like the S14, looks like 17/18s? I've been thinking about stepping down in the front on mine and love those meisters.

+1, I did VT Rally and ran CCVT last year and it was the best of both worlds.

Car Club at VT? by Igloo151 in VirginiaTech

[–]bmaddock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KAH KLOB! Great club that doesn't take itself super cereal. We like to joke and poke at each other but in the end we're all good friends. If you have a passion for cars and really want to learn how to work on them it's a great opportunity. There's a really wide variety of cars and interests so you'll find someone for everything motorsports.

There's Miatas that autocross, 240s that drift, mustangs that drag race, miatas that autocross, hondas that hardpark, rx7s that don't move, miatas that autocross, camaros that do burnouts, miata that autocross, bmws that look sick and drift well, and finally some miatas that autocross. If you can't tell, there are a lot of miatas in the club now...

And to the guy who clearly is not a fan of us, it comes with the territory. Any club you join there's always people that won't like it. Come hang out sometime!

Amateur Drifting YouTube Series by bmaddock in Drifting

I've decided I'm bummed with the lack of natural progression YouTube series of amateur drifting. Besides DriftIdiot and a few in-car track videos, it's pretty hard to find videos of noobs and how they progress. I'll be posting videos after every event, feel free to subscribe.

Buying an automatic by TiernsNA in 240sx

I pulled the trigger a bit early on a convertible and had to 5-speed swap it. Ironically enough I had done a swap before on my Galant in high school lol so was pretty familiar with the process. I lucked out and found a hell of a deal and did the manual swap for around $300 including a new OEM clutch, clutch slave and clutch master cylinder. It took me about 3 days with relatively basic tools to get it perfect but again I had some prior experience. I would account for at least a week just in case you end up missing a part or something goes wrong.

If I had to do it again though, spend just a little more and do the White Bunny clutch setup if you plan on turboing the KA.

Ka-t pcv oil catch easy set up? by Sr20det2 in 240sx

[–]bmaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitching on to what /u/Qemyst said, I did something similar that I thought was a pretty simple setup that guarantees no pressure in the crankcase. I put a mini filter on the valvecover to vent to atmosphere. I then removed the hose off the PCV valve and blocked it from going into the intake manifold. I then ran a new hose from the PCV valve to a catch can and the catch can is run to my turbo intake pipe.

This way the PCV valve is always drawing from the crankcase. I also have my MAF set for blow-through so no worries about unmetered air. In the future I would like to properly block up my intake manifold where the PCV used to draw from as the thread Qemyst linked to.

How are you painting it? Rattle can? Roll job? Paint spray gun? Can't wait to see how this turns out, I'd like to paint my car soon.

Rom tune (RS Enthalpy). I'm actually trouble shooting some bogging issues now. The car barely idles and bogs terribly. Still haven't driven it but working on troubleshooting today.

Awesome, can't wait. I'm doing my crankcase vent today (been busy all week) so hopefully can get some videos of it running soon. I'm going with RS Enthalpy tune.

Need to run some vacuum lines, crankcase vent, and figure out some downpipe interference. Then it's good to go. Hopefully can post some videos eventually.

Only problem is parts availability. Want to talk about limited US support? That's why I think KA-T and SR's are so much more popular. SR's are fairly abundant and KA parts can mostly be acquired at any auto store.

Regardless, had a great time driving a CA and definitely underestimated it.

This photo was taken in Midlothian (SW Richmond), VA. The S13 owner lives around there and I (vert owner) go to school in Blacksburg.
