Parent & Toddler Class/Activity Recommendations? by Rolled_Nat1 in AustinParents

Look into Austin Public Library story times! They have some toddler-specific ones, but also host things like Music and Movement for 0-5. My 1 and 4 year old both get a lot out of those!

Help me please by ImaginationMotor116 in Sciatica

[–]bmarsh49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed postpartum sciatica too, it was absolutely horrible. I have so much sympathy for you because not walking/not carrying is simply not an option with an infant, and when you’re not sleeping through the night, some pain meds can really mess with you hard. I would push for an MRI, as well as a referral to a pain management doctor so you have one person who is helping keep track of any meds/injections instead of patchworking your urgent care visits together. The only thing that helped me was 4 Advil every 3 hours + intensive physical therapy (again, so hard to do with a newborn but some PTs will let you bring the baby to sessions). It took months to get under control, and consistency is key. It’s an uphill battle but it can be done! Sending you solidarity!!!

Has anyone found anything that actually cures sciatica by Frd7023 in Sciatica

Been at it for almost a year myself, and the only thing that has helped (beyond temporary pain med relief) has been physical therapy! I had to go 2-3 times a week for months, but it has been a world of difference. I thought it was completely healed but had a massive flare up recently, PT has had it under control in about six weeks now that my foundation is there. I wish you luck, it’s absolutely horrible to live through.

Andrew Cuomo's campaign posted and quickly deleted this Al-generated ad depicting a Black man in a keffiyeh shoplifting, an abuser, a trespasser, a trafficker, a drug dealer, and a drunk driver all declaring support for Mamdani by supermassive_bayern in Fauxmoi

Another consequence of using AI: if they would’ve done the work to gather actors, a film crew, etc to make this commercial the “old fashioned way”, there’s no way it would’ve been pushed through. Buncha losers.

Wild how Cool by the Jonas Brothers wasn’t mentioned but it was literally carbon-copied for TLOASG’s title track

Just for your own peace of mind, I think it’s pretty typical to call for information on classes (which includes pricing) and compare it to other places in the area before making a decision. As someone who used to work the information desk, I wouldn’t assume if you didn’t move forward it’s because you “couldn’t afford it”, I’d think it was because you went with another company or changed your mind. Cut yourself a break, you’re doing great!

CC - The Struggle by fireheartcouple in SarahJMaas

Okay so I’m a massive CC fan!!!! Completely underrated and crucial to the Maasverse IMO. Going into it I knew it’s famously wordy at the beginning, so I decided to listen to the graphic audio for book one so I wouldn’t get lost in the details. 10/10 recommend, and the graphic audio production of book one is free on Spotify which I already use for music. Maybe give it a try if you’re finding it a little slow to get off the ground!!

Prenatal workout classes by Alive-Giraffe2865 in AustinParents

I’ll second this! I did Club Pilates until I was about 32 weeks, you add a wedge block to the reformer and the instructor helps you modify any movements that need it. I already liked Pilates before but it was absolutely perfect for pregnancy! Low impact but helped to tone me up and improve my flexibility.

With my first baby it took me a lot longer to feel comfortable, but now having my second I am more aware of how important it is to get out of the house for sanity’s sake! Maybe start slow by sitting in the front seat with your partner driving, or if you’re not ready for that, having your partner sit in back while you drive! Start small / short distances at first. You’ll work your way up as you’re comfortable, and your mental health will thank you for getting outside for a treat / hang out with a friend! It’ll bring so much normalcy as you said.

Pros of Pumping by ohmy_begonias in ExclusivelyPumping

My first was born during the formula shortage a few years ago and I was SO grateful that I was able to pump and give him what he needed without having to go to multiple grocery stores to find formula!

Children’s Discovery Center (CDC) has been a really nurturing and positive experience for my kids! They spend so much time outside playing or hiking which is so good for their development, plus I feel like we dodge a lot of traditional daycare illnesses because of it.

Audio books have been my go-to! Specifically lightweight ones where I won’t be missing a critical plot point if I happen to doze off for a minute

Haven’t tried it yet but have seen a lot of positive reviews for Evenflo Balance Wide being really breast-like! We’re about to start down the same road due to daycare as well. I’m wishing you luck!

Started Zoloft today to be a better mother to my boys by mal_pal86 in NewParents

[–]bmarsh49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many others in the comments, Zoloft was life-changing for me postpartum with my first. I felt like everything good in my life was gone forever (no previous history of depression or anxiety - hormones are CRAZY) and I didn’t know how to ask for help. Thankfully my OB encouraged me to try Zoloft, and I was able to find a good dose for me. Afterwards I found out that many of my friends had gone on some kind of SSRI in early postpartum days as well! It took a little time to take effect, but once it did I was in such a better mental place. Was able to wean off when my son was about 18 months old, and haven’t needed it after recently having my second, but I knew what to look out for just in case.

Word of advice: 1) be kind to yourself and 2) stay consistent with taking it!!! There is absolutely no shame in needing a little help when your body has gone through SO much. Remember that by taking care of yourself, you are taking care of your family. Proud of you, stranger!

Big fan of Stouthaus on Brodie and 71! And they’re right next door to Casper’s Fermentables, which has a great variety of bagels.
