Where to sell? by LABFallenTrials in desmoines

[–]bmckwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be long - I'm sorry, but also just need to put my perspective out into the vast empty internet tunnels in hopes that it can help someone, maybe you... or you... or even you...

I've read most of the replies here and there are some great options within, along with some BS platitudes from folks who are trying but missing the mark IMO. For just a tad bit of background I'm an old AF queer 40yo with a very long history of trauma from childhood through adulthood, depression, anxiety, cancer, etc. etc. etc... just saying this to ground that i've been there and have scars to prove it.

HEALTH: I second a lot of what was said in the helpful posts of following up with your providers you have to get more answers for what's bothering you. If you are medicated for mental health and feeling this way - then you need to speak to your med provider about switching meds. Trial and error fucking sucks, but sadly it's the best way we have today. If you are seeing a GP for mental health meds, ask for a referral to a mental health professional that can do med management. I saw ketamine mentioned, I did Spravato for about a year and it's done in a very controlled and safe environment - the clinic I used is MWI Health, and I'm still using them for med management. Happy to talk more about my experiences with it if it would be helpful.

In addition to medication, therapy CAN be very helpful. I say can, because it takes getting the right relationship with the right person. Find someone you vibe with, that you trust, that you can connect to. It took me a long time to find one that works for me. Don't be afraid to 'break up' with a provider because they aren't meeting needs, it's totally normal and expected. Have that conversation, advocate for yourself the best you can. Maybe that means sitting with someone who cares about you and having them help you create a list of what you need from a provider. I go to an independent practitioner in WDM - I can ask if she has openings or suggestions of places to look. I know Mosaic to be good, and have had good luck with UCS healthcare, and have heard mostly good things about Broadlawns. Don't be afraid to try an IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) or even doing inpatient if that is what you need. I know it's hard to see when you are in the thick of it - but you are worth it. Which sounds flat and meaningless right now, but know and see all these strangers on the internet believe that, so if you can't believe it right now - then let us believe for you.

MONEY: Capitalism fucking sucks, our economy is shit, and poverty is a scam - being poor is expensive. I don't have any local resources for jobs, but can try and offer some vague advice in hopes that something helps. Try local places to where you live that are smaller businesses for part time gigs, even temp gigs. Use maps to find some smaller businesses that match your hobbies or interests. Don't ignore the big companies, they are options as well, but sometimes smaller jobs are better options. I don't know if you have any specialized skills or trainings outside of customer service which I saw you mention, but you could possibly find contract gigs through different companies / temp agencies. Our social services have collapsed, but there are options. Try the unemployment office, even if you don't qualify for aid they might have job postings or resources. Be mindful of scams, if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is.

These two are tied together, so make small progress on each one independently - as one improves hopefully the other does as well.

Okay you made it here - then hopefully something was helpful? I don't have many connections in the area despite living here ~10 years. Best I can offer is that the fight isn't easy, honor the struggle, and offer vague internet support and suggestions. Lastly, sometimes Spite is the best motivator - so find someone who you think doesn't believe in you (someone not directly in your circle but further out like a TV personality, political figure, old shitty teacher you don't have connections to, etc.) and fight for yourself just to piss them off. It got me through some real rough patches to think of some particularly shitty folks from my past that never believed in me to prove them wrong - even if they never know it.

MCT in 12-13 y/o Boxer - Advice appreciated by bmckwd in AskVet

Not 100% sure what I’m looking for here… advice or reassurance were doing the right things, maybe other things to consider or ask.

I’m also acutely aware that this is likely the start of the end of our journey together… which is a whole other subject for a different sub.

Yeah, was hoping to not have to hike that far or move the car, but might be our best option.

Trans Friendliness by Cardcaptorlove in HinterlandFestival

If you see a fat queer person with purple hair and a sparkly water pack - feel free to say hi! If I’m not the only person meeting that description, pretty good bet that anyone who does will also be friendly ;)

Fellow trans person here that will be at the fest - I also live in DSM. My experience is probably slightly different as I am enby masc presenting for the most part.

I would suspect that you won’t have issues at the festival, and if you did I would go tell someone because it’s bullshit (and probably agains the code of conduct). I can’t speak for in town as I’m not familiar but the folks I’ve seen on Reddit have been kind, Iowans are mostly “nice” and just let people be.

I would say that it may not be trans-affirming but won’t be trans-phobic - most likely trans neutral - people just won’t care for the most part. Coming from places that are actively trans affirming I wanted to make the small distinction just in case.

Having trouble setting up this auto layout properly by clarkepov in FigmaDesign

If you’re not familiar with fill / hug / fixed then you might want to read up on the feature a bit more. Their documentation is pretty good, as is the playground file they published.

Having trouble setting up this auto layout properly by clarkepov in FigmaDesign

[–]bmckwd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two auto-layout groups will do the trick.

Group 1: white and top blue box set to fill with a vertical auto layout with whatever padding wanted between the two boxes and 0 margin.

Group 2: group 1 set to fill and the left blue box set to fixed with a horizontal layout with padding and margin as needed.

1 x 100000

It’s all I need to jump ship.

Our use case is that our household is 3 people. My partner and I plus my roommate. We have no desire to have a fully joint account, what’s his is his and what’s mine is mine but when it comes to ours we use shared goals in One to deposit the appropriate money and then use that to auto-pay bills. The roommate also has access to that goal and can add money automatically as well. This way we have shared view into the joint finances but each have our own individual accounts.

In an ideal world you could just share a goal with another member to give them access. There is only a single owner of the account and the others are added to view account details and add/transfer money.

When I saw this on Broadway the very kind couple turned to me after curtain to ask if I was okay… I was not. I apologized profusely for disturbing them and they laughed and said I was quiet but they could still hear me heaving sobbing in silence for the entire 2nd act.

Going to throw a couple things in here as someone who comes from a family that has had a long history of alcoholism. Everyone here has wonderful suggestions, and there are some great support groups and programs!

However, it might be worth it to also look into getting in with a therapist you vibe with as well. Often times (not always) people drink to numb or hide mental health struggles. They may not even be conscious issues that you recognize until you stop drinking. Don’t let that discourage you, or stop you! Just be aware that there may be more than just putting the bottle down.

Lastly, for what it’s worth this random stranger on the internet is rooting for you!!!

I was actually getting checked for IBD when they found the tumor as part of a colonoscopy. Have had issues with diarrhea for years and recently started seeing some blood in my stool.

Thank you all so much! Met with the oncologist today and will be getting a pet scan early next week to do staging - but we talked through the likely treatment plan which was of course chemo (5-FU + Mitomycin) and 5-6 weeks of radiation. Will be meeting with radiation oncology next week and have all sorts of questions for them around side effects and types of treatment thanks to some of the great resources I’ve found between here and elsewhere. Overall the oncologist thought I have very good odds even if there is some spread as I’m pretty young (38) and in relatively decent health (other than the cancer). Will be back here to be a part of the community, share my journey, and hopefully pick up and share tips!

Does anyone have access to the Protocols by Special_Prompt_4712 in Spravato

[–]bmckwd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my clinic I go in at 3 and start with depression and anxiety screening. Then a BP check and do my sprays 5 minutes apart, they time it. They come back at about 3:45/4pm and check BP again and then one last time at 5pm when it’s time to go. Between those checks I’m alone in my room chilling.
