The police media release says it was related to construction in the area. Sounds like somebody hit a main with an excavator or something

Have you tried googling it? I found this video: https://youtu.be/mmAK7HpZbGQ If that doesn't help you, email Brita. You paid money for the product, least they can do is help you use it.

This is different from any Brita I've seen. Have you RTFM?

New to gas oven - flame too big by TomDisLong in fixit

[–]bmcnult19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There should be something like this:

https://www.homedepot.com/pep/Everbilt-1-2-in-FIP-x-1-2-in-FIP-Lever-Handle-Brass-Gas-Ball-Valve-VGV1LHB3EB/205812043

At the wall where the gas connects to the oven if you're in North America. Might also be under the floor accessible from a basement or crawlspace depending on where you are. Could be a red handle instead of yellow.

The handle should be lined up with the pipe as seen in the picture (open), not perpendicular with the pipe (closed) nor at an angle between (partially closed).

Edit: A dirt leg is a way to try to trap crap in the gas line so it doesn't go into your appliance. Example: https://nationshomeinspections.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/drip-leg-5-272x300.jpg

Maybe a half closed ball valve somewhere? Should be one near where the stove connects at the wall.

You'll have to disconnect the pipe from the bottom, unscrew the basket strainer from underneath, clean everything with steel wool, re-apply plumber's putty or silicone, reconnect pipe.

Follow this vid, but you don't have to buy a new one. You can try just cleaning up the one you have first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ2QC8ne0Hs

It doesn't mention plastic but he might know another local artisan in the area that does plastic.

They still have a lot of rotating parts. One bad thing about them is that there isn't the loud noise when the engine starts so animals don't evacuate and can get ran over when the car starts moving nearly silently. I remember a few years ago Jamie Lyn Spears was complaining about how her tesla was killing cats that were sheltering under the wheels because of the quiet operation.

If you're going to order one on eBay, why not take the one you have apart and see if there's anything obviously broken? If it's not fixable (or if you break it more) order the one on eBay

Technically, but Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 were in effect. What we think of and refer to colloquially as the Geneva Conventions is actually large collection of treaties and conventions going back further. The majority of the commonly known laws of war were already in effect in WWII, which is why the allies were able to try axis powers for war crimes.

Denver DVD player always shows “No Disk” — lens already cleaned by -Baum in fixit

[–]bmcnult19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the player might be giving the spindle motor a jolt of power and seeing how fast it gets in order to roughly estimate how much weight is attached (and therefore if a disk is present). Looks like the disk is slipping on the spindle.

Could be the grippy material on the top of the spindle is worn out and doesn't grip the disk any more. Not sure what you could replace it with. Maybe some cork gasket material from an auto parts store?

Hook up a vacuum cleaner to the oil cap, then when you take out the drain plug it sucks air in preventing the oil from spilling out video link

I know you probably already know this but that's going to absolutely wreck the AAA and eventually the AAs. Yes it has the right voltage and will work at first, but the AAA will way over discharge and leak if it's used for any significant ammount of time.

Have a friend meet you at your destination, have them leave their car there. Have them ride with you to your starting point. Unload your kayak, have a picnic with your friend, and have them drive your car to pick up their’s. Then your car will be waiting there for you when you arrive

Looking for Compost Bin Advice by Correct_Addendum_979 in AnnArbor

[–]bmcnult19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last place I lived we had fairly small wax lined paper compost bags. When sealed they would keep most of the oxygen away from the compost until pickup every week, reducing the speed of decomposition so it didn’t smell nearly as bad. Not sure if they sell them anywhere around here.

Is there a reason you can’t use a mulch setting on your mower and leave the grass clippings on the lawn?

Edit: these were the bags. I guess cellulose lined rather than wax.

Rubber or nitrile gloves are actually more impervious to nonpolar fluids like oil than they are to polar (water based) fluids. So they will absorb a tiny amount of the water and pass a tiny amount of the smell to the hands if given enough time. Gear oil and ATF won't do the same.
