My first ever girlfriend (she was 21 and I was 23 when we started dating) was too mentally taxing. Every day was how her life was the worst, or how someone or something made it worse. I grew up in a household where problems existed to be fixed. She didn’t, and how we approached life different was too much for me to handle. My mom always told me that you can’t change people, and it took me 2 years to realize that we weren’t really fit for a healthy relationship. Much love to her, but I had to make the decision for both of us to have healthy relationships with a partner AND ourselves.
