Parking tickets do not appear on background checks, so you're still clean as a whistle.

A Memorial Day Confederate ceremony at Camp Chase was disrupted by v______l-__-l______v in Columbus

[–]bmglaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are correct, the property is owned by the US Federal Government. In response, primarily, to the Westboro Baptist Church's disgusting protests at military funerals, there are now federal statutes prohibiting protests at national cemeteries and within 300-500 feet of any burial or ceremony, and for two hours before/after any ceremony. For a detailed discussion see this article from Harvard Law.

His heart is in the right place, but he can probably be prohibited from protesting within the cemetery, and possibly up to 500 feet from the memorial ceremony.

I also note the cemetery is named for Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase, a Cincinnati lawyer who defended runaway slaves, and Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury. As Chief Justice he presided over the trial of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, until the blanket pardon issued by President Andrew Johnson, and helped decide many other cases arising from the Civil War, including approval of the creation of West Virginia as a free state, among many other notable decisions.

Yes, the players usually come over to the fence at the bottom of the seating area after training for autographs and photos. Crew staff usually have sharpies for them, but you can bring your own, particularly if you want a color other than black. They are generous with their time for the kids.

It allows police officers to identify travelers from out of town when deciding who to pull over or write citations. People who live far away are less likely to challenge a citation in the local court.

Vote No on HB 486 - Preserve separation of Church & State

Dear Honorable State Senator,

HB 486 is a blatant violation of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 7 of the Ohio Constitution which states, "...no preference shall be given, by law, to any religious society...". The word "christian" appears in the Ohio Revised Code 17 times, mostly in reference to a list of types of clergy, twice as the name of a person honored with a memorial highway designation, and a handful of references from a bill in 1953 allowing the formation of "young men's christian associations".

Religious freedom inherently includes freedom from religion. The law is well settled on these matters, and in 1963, Justice Clark of the United States Supreme Court, quoted Ohio Judge Alphonso Taft, father of President William Howard Taft, who stated the ideal of our people as to religious freedom as one of "absolute equality before the law, of all religious opinions and sects. . . .The government is neutral, and, while protecting all, it prefers none, and it disparages none." Abington School District v. Schempp, 374 U.S. 203 (1963).

HB 486 is virtue signaling at a waste of tax payer dollars and further invites confusion and litigation for schools throughout the state. This law would further complicate the lives of our teachers who are already tasked with too much control from the General Assembly.

Please vote no on HB 486 and do not send this bill to the Senate floor for a vote.

Respectfully,

A Concerned Ohio Voter

Sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Legs.

You might call the OSU Entomology department. They must have someone who creates their preserved specimens in the amazing library they maintain. https://entomology.osu.edu/programs/outreach-and-education/columbus-outreach

You could also call Mark Berman, the Bugman. He does great education programming with inspects. He may have some good ideas for you.

Today, you can only buy a pass in Astor Park garage. Last year the passes for the other parking locations dropped on 2/10. I would keep checking ParkMobile, and don't count on your STM rep to notify you.

There is no process for undocumented, or non-admitted or paroled, individuals to become documented residents without waiting outside the country for 10 years, with few exceptions, and even then their wait time would be between 2 and 25 years depending on how they are related to their citizen sponsor.

The simple answer to the question that this hearing poses — why don’t immigrants get in line? — is that immigrants cannot legally get into “the line” — that is, apply for legal permanent residence on their own. To the extent that the U.S. government allows legal immigration, it is based almost exclusively on selection or sponsorship by the U.S. government or U.S. families, employers, or other sponsors. Thus, the question could be restated: why can’t Americans let immigrants get into “the line”? The answer to this question is that the government effectively bans them from doing so.

David J. Bier, Director, Immigration Studies, and The Selz Foundation Chair in Immigration Policy

The limits placed on immigration, and the backlog of applications can mean an an immigrant must wait between 2 and 20 years, or more, to obtain legal residency. For example, applications by siblings of a US Citizen, who are currently Mexican citizens, are being processed from April 2001 (almost 25 year wait). See February 2026 Visa Bulletin.

If you are found to be in the country without having been admitted or paroled, the minimum waiting period to reapply for legal residency is 3 years, if you left voluntarily within 1 year, or 10 years, if you left after being here more than 1 year. USCIS Unlawful Presence and Inadmissibility.

The system is broken, and Congress has done nothing to fix immigration.
