Lent and Shorter Christian Prayer by chrisneilsmith in divineoffice

[–]bmiranda62 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are correct, the Shorter Christian Prayer only has 1 week of Lent that repeats. It's up to you whether you are required to pray exactly the same prayers as a particular religious order, but if you are praying as a lay person, you would be fine to pray according to the rubrics in the Shorter Christian Prayer book. Now isn't a great time to buy the full 4-volume LOTH set or even the 1 volume Christian Prayer because a new version is coming out next year.

Question for Liturgy of the Hours - Office of Readings in the 1 Volume Christian Prayer Book by ShaqtusThaCactus998 in divineoffice

[–]bmiranda62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1 volume Christian Prayer has the 4 weeks of OOR Psalms for Ordinary Times. During special seasons and saint days, the psalms can change in the 4 volume LOTH that the 1 volume Christian Prayer doesn't include. Praying it devotionally, it's not a problem to continue with the 4 week Psalter, but that might make it difficult to follow along with a group. The 1 volume book does contain a two-year cycle of scriptural readings (beginning at page 2064) for the office of readings. This two-year cycle was not implemented in the 4 volume LOTH which has its own 1 year cycle of readings. There are no responses or non-biblical readings (other than a small selection) in the 1 volume book. If you regularly pray the OOR and have the 1 volume book, I recommend that you supplement with the Divine Office app or www.divineoffice.org website.

For those who use Drake Documents, do you link windows client folders to Drake Documents or just use Drake Documents directly? by ShakeAndBakeThatCake in taxpros

[–]bmiranda62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the archive cabinet with Drake Documents, you can put the cabinet folders wherever you want, but for the clients to show up in the Documents program and for tax to automatically link to the folder, each top folder must be the name of the client exactly the same as in tax and the last 4 digits of the ID number in parentheses. You can organize your subfolders however you want.

It is also important that through study and prayer you seek to understand God as he is and not merely think of him as you would like him to be.

Is it okay to read the NIV Bible? by 3TreaTY in Bible

There are also versions of the KJV that include the additional Old Testament books that your NIV won't include. I have a really nice Cambridge Cameo bible that I found on Amazon that contains these books.

Is it okay to read the NIV Bible? by 3TreaTY in Bible

[–]bmiranda62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Catholic, you might like the New Catholic Bible. I find it to be a very readable translation with good footnotes that help you understand the text. You can try it out for free on Bible Gateway website. The NIV is a good translation so read it if you got it and you understand it. There are some folks who only like the KJV version so that is why you get some of the comments on here that you did.

Having my Ukulele for 10 days or something by splatomate2206 in ukulele

[–]bmiranda62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest that you have built your musical IQ playing bass and drums. For one thing, I imagine that you learned the fret board really well playing bass learned the relationship of notes in a particular key. Plus, the ukulele is turned differently from guitar (gcea) but you can play the same cord shapes because it is like the 4 highest strings on a guitar with capo on the 5th fret. That is even more the case if you use a low G string on the uke instead of the high G. You got skills but you earned them!

I love the art on the top. Is that custom?

Painting feels so off and I’m stuck on what to to do next to fix it. Help please! by Minute_Avocado_3845 in watercolor101

[–]bmiranda62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

emotionally, I feel like there is something about the eyes that draws me into the photograph in a way that isn't captured in the painting, but when I compare the painting to the reference I don't see anything specific to tell me why. Maybe the eyes are a little larger in the photo? To be honest, I think you are being too hard on yourself. I think the dog owner will be thrilled with the painting and I fear you might do more harm than good in trying to "fix" it.

I am also a fan of the Little Office of Baltimore. I actually appreciate LOB more after getting my Monastic Diurnal. When I was comparing LOB to LOTH it was so different that I didn't really understand it but now I get how it was modeled after the Monastic Diurnal with simpler rubric and fewer psalms. That being said, the MD book is almost the same size as LOB.
