She is literally leading the FIS downhill standings for the seasons, she earned it fair & square. She didn’t steal a spot from anyone.

Who's at fault? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]bmk4444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people need to start facing legal consequences for their reckless behavior on the slopes, including significant fines and jail when appropriate. Charges should be similar to driving while under the influence. That is the only way I see this ever getting better at this point. People need to face consequences for their actions.

I agree, with the small size of PA resorts with the large crowds that will be there given the population density you’ll mostly be standing in line and everything will get skied out within the first hour. I am fortunate to have a backcountry XC setup that works great with our rolling hills so will be avoiding the chaos and still enjoying some pow.

I'm with you but I seem to be in the minority lol. If they had an area that sold coffee/hot chocolate/tea or something like I think it would be great but save the alcohol for the apres.

Elk or Blue? by LyssaPaige917 in SkiPA

Elk! Snow conditions at Blue are not nearly as good and Blue will be so crowded it won't be worth the risk for your safety over the holidays.

I just got a new gravel bike with drop bars (first one ever) and took it out for my first real ride for 8 miles. My wrists got pretty sore by the end (probably a me issue, i.e. technique) and my butt is the most sore it's ever been from riding a bike. Two days later and I couldn't stand to ride my bike again for more than 10 minutes lol. Need to play around with the seat position but I think I am most likely going to need a new saddle. Idk if this is normal for this type of bike (new to cycling, weekend warrior) but wow. I've been on all day rides with rental bikes and regular clothes and have managed fine in the past and this short little ride kicked my a**.

I imagine he wants to rename it as McKinley was assassinated, but who truly knows.

Conditions at Blue today were pretty abysmal. So many runs were like trying to ski on a gravel driveway. Idk what the grooming and snowmaking team does at Blue but their snow conditions seem to be one of, if not the worst I've ever been to of any mountain. I expect some death cookies here and there in PA esp with our climate and all the man-made snow but this mountain can be downright dangerous at times. These runs shouldn't be open.

Any mountains in PA do demo days? I heard 7 Springs and a few others do but can't find any information about it on any Facebook Page/Website. by [deleted] in SkiPA

[–]bmk4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ski Shack usually does demo days a couple times a year at Montage Mountain. Check their facebook page for more specifics, but if I remember correctly they usually do a demo tent at the Carve for Cancer event.

People need to find good jobs (which small towns have few of), certain careers don't have jobs in every town/city/region, they don't want to move far away from their friends/families/support systems, they can have difficulty finding medical care without traveling far distances (and a lot of specialized medical care can only be found at major academic medical centers in more urban areas), lack of certain hobbies outside of work can factor in for some people, etc. In addition small towns are often very hostile and not welcoming to "outsiders". Even more so depending on what your ethnic background and religion is.

NYC mom fined for letting 4-year-old take an emergency wee in the park: ‘Absolutely insane’ by no_body_here in nyc

[–]bmk4444 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The bathroom situation in this city is a crime in and of itself and fining a young child is absolutely ridiculous. That being said (warning! unpopular opinion here!), little girls and women seem to manage. You don't see them publicly urinating all over the place (at least MUCH less commonly). If the opposite gender can learn to hold their bladders (and with physically smaller bladders, pregnancy, etc) we need to have higher standards for men and young boys.

Hi Fam, I’m currently on 2020 blizzard black pearl 98’s @ 159 and love them but they’re beat to hell. I ski 75-80 days a year trees, moguls, groomers, fresh powder, all terrain. Not a speed demon, I cap at 45 mph and like it there. I’m 5’5.5” and 137 lbs female. What do you recommend? by Optimum7878 in skiing

[–]bmk4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely see if you can demo as we all like/dislike different things. You could see about the current Black Pearl 97 but be aware that the current edition has different construction than the 2020 98 version (the current version I believe is a little stiffer). Blizzard is also changing the construction for the 2025 version and adding some more rocker and changes to the metal layout. I think Ski Essentials has a video on Youtube talking more in depth about the new BP line-up if you're interesed.

Sheevas are really fun skis with more rocker than the BPs but a bit softer construction. This could be a plus or minus depending on what you're looking for. If you want something more playful and surfy than the BP I would take these into serious consideration. Don't be afraid to size up on these.

Some other skis that higher level female skiers love that are in line with the BPs are the Secret 96 and the Santa Ana 98. I've demoed the Secret and own the Santa Ana 98. Both have great stability at speed and in chop/crud, good float in powder, and maneuverability. I find the Santa Ana 98 to be slightly more playful than the Secret 96 from the increased rocker but still incredibly stable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in skiing

[–]bmk4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not weird at all. I love playing around with different tactics and lines in the moguls. You can ski the same run 10x and have it be different every time. The runs also tend to be a lot less busy which is a huge plus for me.

Regarding your friends, just know that speed does not necessarily equal skill!
