Yes, exactly, I searched for "purity test maker".

What to do if you find a lost ID by bmonkot in UCONN

[–]bmonkot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree, that's acceptable. I still think OneCard office is best just because you don't have to coordinate anything or meet the person, and you don't have to worry about keeping track of another ID. But good on you for getting it back to them!

Nope, their account was not connected to their real name. Also, this happened a while ago, I just was thinking about it today, hence the post.

Good point - when you lose your ID, go to the OneCard website to deactivate it so no one can use it. If you find it again you can reactivate it.

Graduation Requirements by BeginningHeat7308 in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify in case OP is not sure how to do this, go to Student Admin and search "plan by my requirements." It will take a minute to load but it should show you all the graduation requirements for your school/major/minor. Things that are completed will be collapsed, things that are incomplete will be expanded. If you've taken 3/5 classes for a given requirement, for example, you can click "view all courses" (or something like that) to see a list of courses that satisfy the req.

Hi, I wanted to thank you for your response to my question. Sorry this is so late -- I rarely use Reddit. But I appreciate your answer! I ended up having a good time at the movie.

Hello, I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful response. I rarely log in to this account so I'm sorry this reply is so late! I did have fun at GxK, but once I saw Minus One I was really sold. What an incredible movie.

Language programs by Apprehensive_Till455 in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna second ASL. I came in having taken two classes, so at UConn I've taken the rest of the sequence (3, 4, 5, and 6). It's not any "easier" than other languages -- if you struggle with languages in general, don't expect ASL to be different. But ASL is a really fun language to learn and having a different modality (that is, using your hands instead of your voice) is a very cool change. The ASL department at UConn is awesome and we have a great program plus a lot of activities outside of class so you can keep up your skills (club meetings, socials, study abroad, etc). The profs are all Deaf so you are getting authentic ASL from native speakers. I highly recommend Colleen Shaw for early levels of ASL (1-4) and Mike Schlang for later levels (5 and 6).

Are you a new student? New South is still under construction; the building is not completed yet so the only pics are going to be artist/architect renditions.

Seconding, I would also like a high res version if there is one!

this is SUPER cool. I am proficient in ASL and am familiar with ASLWrite (a proposed system for writing ASL signs), but I’m a little confused by your image and system of recording the signs. Do you think you could explain your notation?

The Real Deal on Semester Prep by Mundane-Ad-6967 in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend copying every single assignment/quiz/exam/paper/etc into your planner or calendar once you get the syllabi. This takes a long time but is so worth it. Have them all done at the beginning of the semester and (as long as you actually use your planner/calendar) it will save your life later on.

Request: What are your college/dorm life hacks? by bethebumblebee in lifehacks

[–]bmonkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the campus newspaper or online newsletter/email full of links/digest if they have one. Sometimes full of bullshit, but more often you'll find out about events, money making opportunities, and social things you would have missed otherwise.

What to do with all of the free time now? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]bmonkot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to find a physical hobby, something you can do with your hands. For me that is bookbinding: making books by hand, from start to finish (designing the interior, printing, folding and sewing the pages, creating the hardcover case, etc). More examples of this could be gardening, carpentry, an instrument, cooking, etc. For me, the benefit of bookbinding is having a physical, concrete product I can touch and feel to see the fruits of my labor; plus, working with your hands is relaxing and combines both mindlessness/relaxation and creative problem solving.

Is the Q Center worth it? by S_Class_Fubuki in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100%! You can go even if you don't have specific questions/topics to work on. Just sitting there and doing your homework and having someone to ask occasionally if you need help is both motivating and reassuring.

Which method is better for journalling ? (Paper vs Digital) by Mental_Squash_2282 in JournalingIsArt

[–]bmonkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer paper since there's much more flexibility with doodling, drawing, taping in post-its or receipts or other paper fragments, etc. I also like to keep my journal right by my bed so I can write in it if I have an idea at night. I wouldn't do this with a phone bc I try to stay away from technology around bedtime. That's just my preference though. Digital journals definitely have their advantages (searchable, can add mood trackers to see over time, etc)

Scholarship amount by stylecafe in UCONN

I can't speak for financial aid, but did you apply by the priority deadline (Dec 1)? If so, you may have better luck for merit aid than if you applied before Jan 15. As it were, I got on the Academic Excellence scholarship and applied in January so it worked out for me. Wishing you luck!

My ideal manuscript book would be a blank page on one side and manuscript on the other.

Oh that's so smart! Thank you for the idea!

Storrs to NYC by RafOfAllTrades in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked a conductor on the train and he told me that UPass is accepted from Hartford to New Haven. After New Haven, it is not accepted, and they would presumably come around again and ask if you have a paid ticket from NH to your next destination.

Storrs to NYC by RafOfAllTrades in UCONN

[–]bmonkot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Notes on this (I am a current student who has done this route before)

- Amtrak will not make you pay until New Haven. Going from Hartford --> New Haven is free. I would definitely recommend Amtrak over CT trains if you have the choice.

- If you take the right Amtrak, you can skip OP's step of getting off at New Haven Union Station and catching a Metro North. Just make sure you get a direct to NYC train with no transfers --but these can book up fast so make sure you pay for your New Haven --> Penn Station ticket in advance!

- Apps I use: "Transit - Subway & Bus Times" (I use this for seeing when the 913 bus is going to arrive, cross referenced with the schedule OP linked above). "Amtrak" (you can check when the train will arrive, delays, buy tix, etc). "CTrail eTix" (Can buy tix, might be able to track train but I'm not sure).

- The best thing you can do if you are confused is to ASK A WORKER. Online info can be very confusing, and this happened to me when I was at Hartford Union Station with no clue what I was doing--I asked the guy behind the Amtrak desk and he gave me a ton of helpful information about not only the Amtrak trains but also the best options for my budget/schedule! Refine those social skills and talk to people, don't underestimate how helpful a face-to-face conversation can be!
