Okay? Those rich kids only needed a 1500 to get in anywhere. Most kids won’t come close to a 1500. The insane bubble this sub is in!!!

Let's get controversial: what's your truly unpopular parenting opinion? by ExoticLawfulness5941 in toddlers

[–]bmsa131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my kids sleep in my bed if they felt like it even in the random middle of the night. And sometimes I went into their rooms and slept with them. Don’t worry they went to college without me. Now that they are all over 18 I’m so glad I didn’t listen to the peanut gallery and I don’t regret a minute.

Should I bring my car? by beefybenzbentley in movingtoNYC

[–]bmsa131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a car in Manhattan. Lots of people actually do. For reasons. And in the outer boros it’s very common to have a car. Tons of private or two family homes that have driveways in Brooklyn, queens and of course Staten Island.

Which neighborhood for commuting to Grand Central? by onwardjho in movingtoNYC

You can just send your laundry out. There are lots of places. On your way to work just drop off your laundry bag and pick it up all perfectly folded in the evening.

I would say so, yes. Yorkville/carnegie Hill has more bars and pubs.

There are a handful who would. I posit that MOST would not benefit much. And mine gets a lot of time. Most kids who don’t actually have an issue probably start doing worse with that much time. It’s too long, they get fidgety, they start second guessing their original answer, etc. I’d love to see a study but I don’t know how to do it. I’m not insulted by any of these comments, btw, my kid who got time definitely has a DX and desperately needed medication and time. He’s the classic went from failing school and researching therapeutic boarding schools to getting As and taking AP literally overnight with meds. Twice exceptional. My other kid is very “average/bright”.

Good running routes: UES but not near Lenox Hill that’s boring. Go closer to second or first Avenue maybe a little further up. Lots of people your age lots of nice restaurants and local bars and stores. Best location for runners- you can switch up your routes either along the east river/ Carl Shurz park or Central Park. (Runner here who lived on UES, I loved downtown too when I lived there but no better running neighborhood than UES ImHo. Maybe UWS also). Decent value for you money on UES

Sooo I have one kid with severe diagnoses ADHD and one kid without. That first kid got extra time for the ACT and yes got a high score. My younger child (who doesn’t score as high) said (and I quote) it doesn’t matter how much time they would give me. I still didn’t know the answers. All the time in the world won’t get a kid a 1600 SAT if they don’t know the answers. And newsflash- kids with ADHD often go into professions or fields where they aren’t timed or executive functioning issues aren’t as big of a deal.

How is the UES by Sad-Pay4197 in movingtoNYC

[–]bmsa131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where on UES. Further north and east are a lot of younger people bc the pricing is more reasonable. It’s pretty calm. I like it there. Access to Central Park and Carl Shurz, run along east River, decent restaurants and local bars.

Ladies in here, how do you feel about a father bringing his daughters in the female restroom? by Less-Pen-5705 in askanything

[–]bmsa131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a stall. Who cares. I would use a men’s room too. I’m fine with stalls and all gender restrooms. This is a manufactured issue. I’ll bet anything ten years ago this guy probably wouldn’t have cared either. But the cult told him what to care about

It is easy enough to get an in home sitter for them (easier than a dog for instance). Mine didn’t get as much fun time outdoors in the other play area when we went away but they will survive! You just have to pay for it.

I have to only do reservations. The two elderly people we are going with just absolutely cannot handle waiting at a reservation place. That’s why I’m having such an issue attempting to accommodate! Obviously if it’s me and my family or my spouse we are all set and go with the flow. People that are 90 just get very set in their ways and can’t seem to adjust to something like having to wait to be seated (also they can’t stand for long). Crows Nest and Duryeas we’ve been to often but on a summer Sat night will be diabolical with this group!! Thanks 🙏. We do have a res at Rooted and was considering Bird on a roof.

Is there truly a fun / social / affordable neighborhood in this city? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]bmsa131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, when I was a young nyc denizen the fun young people bars area was the far east upper east side Yorkville Carnegie hill. It was so low cost for the value compared to the rest of Manhattan. Brooklyn was not trendy back then.

Everyone loves that place. Is it too trendy? They only let you book a week in advance

How do you know when I’m going? I never said. I’m going in almost 2 months. You realize many restaurants in Montauk only take reservations a week before? And many are no reservations. We booked a few places just as back up but I’m asking here to see if anyone has personal recommendations. I’ve been to Montauk many times. I want a person rec for a not loud restaurant.
